CU BY THE NUMBERS

Tom WebbHead CoachFifth SeasonSouthwest Min-nesota state

The 2012-13 season will the head coach Tom Webb’s fifth as the leader of the Aggie women’s basketball team. Webb has lead CU to a nine-win improvement since taking over in April of 2008 and led the Ag-gies to their first Lone Star Conference Tourna-ment birth in five seasons in 2012.

In each of the four previous seasons Webb has built the CU women’s basketball program as steps to success. The 2011- 12 season was historic for Aggies which won 11 Lone Star Conference games (a program record), saw a winning streak of 10 games, and had the LSC Player of the Year-Sabelle Diata and LSC Newcomer of the Year-Julie Paunovic.

In his four seasons as head coach, Webb has signed four student-athletes who were named all-state in Oklahoma and Texas.

Webb was previously the associate head women’s basketball coach at Eastern Washington University starting in the 2004-2005 season. He started out as the assistant coach and was promoted to associate head coach. Eastern Washington University is an NCAA Division I institution, competing in the Big Sky Conference.

At EWU Webb also served as the recruiting coordinator and oversaw the post players. Four of his post players attained All-Conference honors and one went on to play professional basketball in Europe. Webb’s emphasis is on defense and rebounding, although he was in charge of communicating the offen-sive and defensive philosophies throughout each practice at EWU. Webb also oversaw all facets of game preparation, developed scouting reports, and prepared game plans for each match-up. Additionally, Webb was in charge of pre- and post- game film breakdown.

Coach Webb is also a gifted coach off the court and in the classroom. While at EWU, his team finished with the third-highest GPA (3.46) in the nation among Division I women’s basketball programs.

Prior to EWU, Webb was the head women’s basketball coach for the Northwest College (Powell, WY) Trappers. At Northwest he led the team to a 94-32 overall record and posted a school record for wins in back-to-back seasons. His record of 94-32 (75%) is the highest winning percentage in school history.

Webb also was named the Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference (WCCAC) Coach of the Year, and won two WCCAC Championships. His team’s 86 points per game average is still thehighest season average in school history. The Trappers also won the 2003 National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) academic championship with a team GPA of 3.56, the highest in the entire nation. As Northwest College’s head coach, Webb coached four All-Americans and twelve Academic All-Americans. He has also coached eight All-Region players and five All-Tournament players.

Throughout his career Webb has learned from two Hall of Fame coaching legends in Don Meyer (Northern State) and Ken Rochlitz (Northwest College).

Webb attained his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Southwest Minnesota State and completed his master’s degree in teaching and learning from Northern State.

Coach Webb currently lives in Lawton with his wife Gina Webb and their son Jackson.

Justin Cellum is in his second year as Assistant Coach for the women’s basketball team. He began his coaching career at Cameron as a volunteer coach under Coach Webb and over the course of three years worked his way up, serving as student assistant and graduate assistant.

Cellum, who originally came to Cameron to run cross country competed during the 2006-07 school year. The Tishomingo, Okla., native was awarded with the CU Presidential Leaders and University Scholars from 2006-10.

Cellum received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Cameron University.

He is the son of Steve and Gayla Cellum and Alvin Elvik and currently lives in Lawton with his wife Tori.
