Off-Campus Work Permit
International students studying in full-time
academic programs may be eligible to obtain an
Off-Campus Work Permit which allows students
to work a maximum of 20 hours per week while
attending school.
Post-Graduation Work Permit
Once students have completed their Canadian
program, they may apply for a Post-Graduation
Work Permit which will permit graduates to remain
in Canada and work in their fields for a maximum
of three years.
Workplace Education Preparation (WEP)
Camosun’s Workplace Education Preparation (WEP)
course assists students who would like to enter the
workforce. Participants receive help with cover letters
and resumes as well as interview, job search, and
networking skills. This course provides students
with a broader understanding of the Canadian labour
market, insights into employers’ expectations related
to specific programs of study, and the skills to compete
effectively in the job market. The WEP course is a
prerequisite for co-op and internships. It can also be
taken alone to enhance career preparation.
Co-operative Education (Co-op) and Internships
Co-operative education enables students to connect
their classroom studies to the real world by gaining work
experience related to their program area. Co-op students
function as employees of the co-operating employer
while learning current North American business culture
and are normally paid at market rates. Students pay a
fee and receive college credit for the work term and they
are required to submit assignments demonstrating their
achievement of academic, professional, and personal
learning objectives. Studies show that co-op students
enjoy higher academic achievement and motivation and
graduate with higher employment rates and earnings.
