The members of staff escorng us, Miss Peters and Mr. Alexandrou, had a plan for the day and the first talk we went to see was about the ‘Adventures in the Athropocene’ presented by Gaia Vince. She talked about the issue of how humans are destroying the earth and how we can co-exist in this changing world. The second talk, delivered by John Bradshaw, was tled ‘How cats and dogs really think’ and was about the animal’s ancestry and origins. His talk focussed on body language and behaviour which he has extensively researched. We then watched a presentaon about medieval medicine. Dr Freya Harrison mainly focused on a medieval text and specifically ‘Bald’s Eyesalve’. This parcular medicaon used natural ingredients to heal common eye infecons such as the sty however upon extensive tesng it can also kill the MRSA superbug! The final lecture we saw was presented by Dara O’Brien. He focused on how AI (arficial intelligence) can be creave. His first ‘test’ was on painng. The computer system took a picture of Dara and then painted its own interpretaon of him. Aſter, it assessed it and then stated whether it liked it or not. He then went on to show how AI is being trialed to create a screen play, jazz, and also poetry. I personally think that the jazz was the best as it sounded human! FOOTBALL NEWS

Year 11 Campion off to solid start after Toussaint sparks goal rush (Sanders 0-11 Campion)

The Year 11 football team made the short journey to Sanders school for their first ever competitive school football match, eager to make an impact on the Havering football league. After a long span of early possession from Campion, Isaac Toussaint broke the deadlock. Olu Asagba fed a ball into the striker who took it around the keeper and tucked it away comfortably to make it 1-0 to the visitors. It was not long before Campion struck again. Joe Banks delivered a ball into the box allowing Toussaint to nod in his second. Meanwhile, Price and Osunbor were holding the midfield together well, taking away any pressure to the defense and Tom Leonard continued to make inroads down the left wing. The same combination struck again after Asagba squared the ball to Isaac allowing him an easy tap in, granting him a hat trick in the first half. Just before the half time whistle Liam Grannell climbed above his man and headed in making it 4-0 to Campion at half time. At the other end there was little action, with the keeper James Brown having hardly anything to do. Early in the second half Louie Shead picked up the ball on the left hand side, shifted it onto his right foot and found the top corner with a curling strike from outside the area. Shortly after, Toussaint was involved once again when Asagba played a give and go with him putting Asagba through to make it 6-0. Grannell found himself on the edge of the box and opened fire timing a sweet strike that found the top corner. Four more goals by Banks, Shead and two from Toussaint followed in quick succession making it 11-0. Throughout the Campion defence were comfortable and weren’t fazed, and as result kept a clean sheet. In the end Campion coasted to victory getting their season off to a great start. James Brown, Joey Opoku, Jack Holder, Liam Grannell, Louie Shead, Daniel Price, Justin Osunbor, Joe Banks, Tom Leonard, Olu Asagba, IsaacToussaint, Tony Dudley, Jonathan Elliot Miles and Nathan Byrne. Well Done Boys!

ONLINE SAFETY

The school aims to promote responsible use of the Internet and the World Wide Web so that all students can use the resources available to aid their studies in the most effective way. As part of this, the school aims to provide a safe environment for using online media, and seeks to raise awareness of the safety issues associated with electronic communications.

The school website has recently been updated with a number of parents' guides for various social media that students aged between 11-18 choose to use on a day to day basis. If you wish to find out more about these products, how they are used by young people and the potential risks involved in them, you will find the guides under the 'Online Safety' section of the school website. The Internet and social media can be a fantastic resource, providing it is used in a sensible and responsible way.

Future newsletters will contain topical information about Online Safety matters in the news, and general issues to be aware of as we live in 'The Information Age'.

The image shows a button which is shown below which will appear on many sites where students can report any abuse, extremism or threatening behaviour that they encounter online. This button can also be found on the school website.

ROME 2016

On the 3rd of October Year 11 went on a school trip to Rome, Italy. We arrived at school for 5:30 and quickly left for the airport, before we knew it we were on the coach to Villa Palazzola. Palazzola was once a retreat home for the students of the English College when it got too hot in the centre of Rome. When we were in Rome we visited lots of interesting and beautiful places such as the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel. However my favourite place we visited was the Catacombs, This was by far the most amazing place we visited as; to be under the city of Rome where many Catholics went to have mass, even though they knew it may result in death and persecution. In the Catacombs we celebrated mass and were given a tour of one of the four levels. I really enjoyed this trip as it was filled with lots of religious visits and funny moments as a group.
