Compile industry database

2It is necessary to compile a database (email, facsimile and postal addresses) for a wide range of individuals that represent the industry you operate in speci"cally for the geographical regions you wish to attract business from.

Some of these should include, but not limited to, editors and others for the industry media (online and print), general business and investment media, associations and research organisations (researchers, members, management, advisors), investors and investment groups (VC’s), licensing and partnering executives, scienti"c officers, key note speakers at conferences and more.

4 Mail & email promotions

Prepare several professional looking promotions and distribute these to the database and to other lists that may be sourced from your industry media. Lists are usually available for rental and it is possible to select speci"c individuals who work in certain projects in distinct geographic areas. Promotions must have strong value propositions and a call to action is important.

Write and distribute media releases to your database and to several other audiences (business, "nance, technical, etc) in selected geographic regions. Use a third party media distribution service (e.g. AAP Medianet) that will get your release exposed.

5 Advertising & social media

Identify affordable advertising opportunities (print and digital) in several key industry journals and directories. It is recommended to create a LinkedIn pro"le, join several relevant industry groups and actively communicate with your colleagues (post questions, media releases, etc).

XRF Scienti!c Limited (ASX)

Provided several marketing, media relations and senior executive recruitment functions for this ASX listed company that provides mining laboratory products to most of the enterprise level mining industry clients. Held a senior executive level position with this Fortune 500 Company and assisted with clinical validation and launched many new diagnostic medical devices worldwide that successfully positioned the technology and company as the industry leader with excess of annual sales of USD$70 million using primarily educationally based media relations, direct marketing, advertising, brochures and trade shows. Pioneered a closed loop marketing system in the J&J family of companies that tracked and measured sales versus lead generation which was adopted by many other companies. Undertook a range of market research activities to help the commercialisation process.

Attracted a strategic alliance from a multinational molecular diagnostic equipment group for biomarkers that were discovered and patented.
