Introduction: Today we hear how God sets people free from their chains. Christ comes to
liberate us from the fears that keep us in sin and unhappiness. He comes to put
fresh heart in us and to lift our spirits.
FIRST READING: I saiah 35: 1-6,10 The people of Israel are trapped in exile by a desert barrier. But the Spirit will irrigate the wilderness so that it becomes a green avenue to liberty.
Response: Psalm 145 Lord, come and save us.
SECOND READING: James 5: 7-10 Don’t give way to despair or depression, urges James. Look up and you’ll see that your rescuer is nearly here.
Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia, Alleluia
GOSPEL READING: Matthew 11: 2-11 John the Baptist wants to know whether Jesus is the promised one, “Seeing is believing,” replies Jesus. “Ju st watch the promises come true.”
Next week’s readings:
4th Sunday of Advent — Year A
1st Isaiah 7: 10-14
Psalm 23
2nd Romans 1: 1-7
Gospel Matthew 1: 18-25
Vision: Capricorn Coast Parish will be a community of believers, where
all who come will find God’s love in action, in us and through us and have their own personal experience
with the Risen Christ.
The homily is a means of bringing the scriptural message to life in a way that helps the faithful to realise that God’s word is present and at work in their everyday lives.
