Fr. Mark Hebert Celebrates with Family and Friends at the Refectory

Fr. Mark and his father, Roger, both gave beautiful talks! Roger Hebert spoke first and said this glorious day has finally come after nine

years and he and his wife are so excited their son has become a priest! Fr. Mark spoke of how before they are ordained they attend reconciliation and confess their sins committed their whole life. A true and powerful examination of con-science. He became teary eyed and said you feel so unworthy but said God has abundance mercy and died on the cross for our sins. He thanked everyone for all their prayers during the years and asked for continued prayers! He said he is very excited to finally be ordained and is now a priest!

Fr. Mark blessing Candice & Ed Tyrrell. Guests were asked to stand in line for a blessing. There was a very long line.

Fr. Michael Pham's Farewell Dinner Party

Hasta La Pasta Sunday, June 7th

Many of you may know Fr. Michael,

Parochial Vicar at St. Maximilian Kolbe,

is being transferred to St. Philip Phan Van Minh Parish

in Orlando Florida. T.Wayne Brewster, Louie Diaz,

Doug Rathe, Ramona Scarlett and Candice Tyrrell gave

beautiful memorable talks which brought laughter and

even tears to Father's eyes. What a wonderful evening

of fellowship and a great way to send Fr. Michael off to

his new parish knowing he is loved! Here’s looking

forward to Canada 2021 for another pilgrimage led by

Fr. Michael!

We were blessed with the opportunity to travel on pilgrimages with Fr. Michael to many places. Here are some of my fondest memories of Fr. Michael Israel pilgrimage 2011: Fr. Michael had just come to CGS when he had the opportunity to go on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. On the bus we were to rotate seats every day. The second day we were sent to the back of the bus and in front of us were Fr. Michael and 3 other priests. We soon learned they were practical jokers and began to join in the fun. The following day when Darlene said to move seats, Fr. Michael stood up and said that the priests weren’t moving, and neither were we! The rest of the trip was spent in the back of the bus getting to know Fr. Michael and lots of laughing. There was an empty seat across from us and no one lasted more than a couple of hours there! Although this was a really special trip, one of my favorite memories from that trip was when the 5 priests celebrated Mass on the Jordan River under umbrellas. It was truly special! Greece and the Footsteps of St. Paul in 2014: We always knew where Fr. Michael was because the pace was that of the slowest in the group, and we could always hear his laughter. And then there were the crazy photo ops amid the ruins and streets of Athens! What a joy! We were in Santorini and when we went up the cable cars to the top, Luke got scared and would not go. Fr. Michael went back down and walked up with Luke through the donkey dung path. I will never forget the smiles on their faces when they caught up with us at the top. A shepherd never abandon’s his flock and that was proof. I firmly believe that the Lord’s reward for this was when Luke, Fr. Michael and I happened on a monastery and the Dominican sisters and priest were chanting in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. It was angelic! Later in Santorini, when the cruise ship was ready to leave and Ed had gone back up the mountain to retrieve an item, Candice and I were waiting with Fr. Michael. As it got dark and the ship was blowing it’s last call horn, the crew came for us and captain said that Fr. Michael needed to take his wife and get back on the ship. We laughed so hard when Fr. Michael told him that he was a Catholic priest and he didn’t claim either of us as his wife! On Mykonos, we sat outside at a restaurant to view the beautiful sight and have a beer. Fr. Michael introduced us to sardines! And then there were the beautiful mountaintop monastaries of Meteora and our outdoor Mass in Phillipi by the stream. 2015 Fatima, Never, Lourdes, Paris, Barcelona, Mallorca in the Footsteps of St. Junipero Serra As on all the trips, Fr. Michael was full of information and took us on a spiritual journey through his homilies at Mass. I will never forget the first day in Fatima and Fr. Michael was asked to celebrate Mass and give the homily at the chapel of Apparitions. His message to everyone from all over the world was: “When we were little and we were hurt, we came to our Mom and she made it better. Even though we were still in pain, she consoled us and we trusted her. We need to come and talk to Mary, our Mom. Our prayer is a conversation with her and our pain diminishes.” In Paris during the Mass at the Shrine of the Miraculous Medal he said that we needed to re-member that Mary said that “some don’t ask for grace” and we needed to ask for grace. Who can forget the processions saying the rosary in Lourdes and Fatima, or celebrating Mass at the Sagrada La Familia! Or the eve-ning walks on the beach in Mallorca looking for ice cream! In Petra we had planned to have Mass in St. Peter’s church where St. Serra was baptized and served, but it was closed. Fr. Michael walked around for a long time in prayer, and all of a sudden the priest showed up and allowed us to have Mass. Fr. Michael said it was faith and the Holy Spirit! It was a testimony to the rest of us. 2018 The California Missions of St. Junipero Serra This trip was filled with so much laughter and prayer as we toured California from San Diego to Napa Valley. We even got to do some wine tasting! And then there is Lake Charles! On more than one occasion we have run into Fr. Michael at LaBerge! It seemed for awhile we were on the same “schedule”, and he and I would walk around the casino and talk theology. Through the years we have had many wonderful dinners with Fr. Michael and most of you here. What a blessing he has been in our lives and we look forward to the day when we can go on pilgrimage again! Thank you, Fr. Michael, for being part of my spiritual journey. I know I can always ask you for prayer and direc-tion and for that I am so grateful.

Here is the little trip down memory lane that Ramona and others shared.....

Now this I say: He who soweth sparingly

shall also reap sparingly: and he who

soweth in blessings shall also reap bless-

ings. Every one as he hath determined in

his heart, not with sadness or of necessity:

for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is

able to make all grace abound in you: that

ye always, having all sufficiently in all

things, may abound to every good work,”

Seminarians Luis Armas & Carlos Jaime, Serran Yolanda Cadena and Fr. Matthew Suniga. Luis & Carlos are assigned to St. Theresa's to help out with moving and arranging the furniture to get ready for the new seminarians preparatory spiritual retreat or Propaedutic “boot camp”!!!

Fr. Matthew invited Candice and Yolanda for lunch before the retreat began. St. Theresa's has a fabulous cook from Needville, Kim Cannon. Candice & Yolanda are still talking about the amazing meal Kim served, wedge salad with crumbled bacon & feta, spinach topped with alfredo noodles and chicken marsala and side bowl of fresh cut watermelon! We asked if she cooks like this every day and he responded, “ yes every day”. Fr. Matthew will definitely miss this awesome cook, Kim!!!

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast and unmoveable: always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing

that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15,58

The Happy Faces of Four Sts. Simon & Jude Altar Servers before Covid 19

This photo was taken before the Covid 19 hit us smack in the face…..do these young fellas

not look like future priests?

I only know the Mom of the one second from left….I always tell her what a fine young man

he is and how nice it is to see him on the

altar…..maybe, if our Lord calls him to the priesthood, he would say “YES”! She is very

sweet and always nods and smiles. Let’s

continue to pray for more Priest, Sisters and Consecrated Religious!

through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

The Ordination Mass for Fr. Mark Hebert and Fr. Thuc Nguyen with Celebrant Cardinal DiNardo was beautiful! Even though there was social distancing many of their family and friends attended. The joy in their heart was obvious after they were ordained! Fr. Mark is assigned to Sacred Heart Conroe and Fr. Thuc is assigned to St. Thomas Moore. They would love for you to surprise them and attend their Mass!!! Congratulations to Fr. Vincent, Fr. Kingsley, Fr. Justin, Fr. Ryan, Fr. Rick, Fr. David Michael and Fr. Jose Alonso on your one year priestly anniversary!!! May God bless you! Thank you very much to those who donated money for Fr. Mark Hebert’s surprise Molina Pope Francis Design Chalice & Paten! Fr. Mark was very moved and thankful to the Serrans and expressed this in his homily at his first Mass at CGS on June 28th. We were able to give Fr. Mark a check for $1550 with your generosity left over from the Chalice donations. Thank you all again very much! Thank you to the Serrans who volunteered to help with social distancing and cleaning after the 9:00 am and 1:00 pm Masses when Fr. Mark gave everyone individual blessings. Thank you T. Wayne Brewster, Yolanda Cadena, Diane Harrison, Ed Tyrrell and Maria Vitucci! The Serrans will greatly miss Fr. Michael Pham being transferred to FL. If you are ever interested in attending a beautiful, joyful, spiritual pilgrimage attend one of Fr. Michael’s! Many CGS Serrans have travelled with Fr. Michael and highly recommend you signing up. Next year 2021, Fr. Michael is planning a pilgrimage to the spiritual sites in Canada. Please let me know if you are interested to attend? A HUGH congratulations to Fr. Matthew Suniga for being selected as Cardinal DiNardo’s secretary. Fr. Matthew spent his pastoral year at CGS and everyone loved his motivating, dynamic and spiritual homilies! Fr. Matthew is movin’ on up!!! Ed and I think not long before he will be promoted to Bishop! Congratulations to Fr. Desy Daniels for his CPE Unit III letter of acceptance. Fr. Desy is an awesome Spiritual Chaplain for Houston Methodist med center. He celebrates Mass in their Chapel on Wednesday’s and Friday’s if you are ever visiting someone in the hospital. He would love to see you!

Happy birthday to Fr. Innocent on June 11th! Fr. Innocent is very busy with CGS and attending classes at UST for his doctorate degree. Please keep Fr. Innocent in your prayers that he passes his test with flying colors!!! Congratulations to Mike & Peggy O’Neil on their 50th wedding anniversary! A great milestone! They are a beautiful couple that does so much for so many people! May you have many more blessed years to-gether! Wow – Our North Serrans really stepped up to donate furniture for the new seminarians Propaedutic “boot camp”retreat. The old rectory at St. Theresa’s Sugar Land was completely empty and you filled it up with beautiful furniture! Thank you all very much for your donations! Thank you to Rolando Tolentino who I called at the last minute before calling a moving company to pick-up and transport all the furniture. Thank you to Dennis Mottola and Patrick Callaghan who helped lift and load the furniture with Rolando! God bless you!

Finally, Ed and I want to express our deepest sympathy for the three

dear Serrans passing in June, Joan Johnson, Darlene Marinoff and Doug

Rathe. They will all truly be missed. May eternal rest grant upon them Oh

Lord and may they rest in peace

God bless you,

Candice

For our fathers, who have given us life and love, that we may

show them respect and love, we pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For fathers who have lost a child through death, that their faith

may give them hope, and their family and friends support and

console them, we pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For fathers who have died, that God may bring them into the

joy of his kingdom, we pray to the Lord

Lord, hear our prayer.

God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things.

Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian

fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.

Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them al-

ways with a spirit of profound

respect. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
