Career and College and Promise (CCP) .
Important Information and Student Expectations
When applying for dual enrollment through the Career and College Promise, it is important to understand that although tuition free credit for college courses is a wonderful option, there are some important factors to be aware of that include but are not limited to those listed in this document.
Important Information:
1) The pathway should always be determined by students’ intentions with regard to career goals.
2) Courses should be selected from those within the pathway.
3) Transportation is not provided for CCP students.
4) All CCP course grades are included on the high school student’s official high school and college transcript.
5) Limited parental involvement:
FERPA, The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that
protects the privacy of student education records. Every college student regardless of age is protected by FERPA. It
does not allow College personnel to communicate with anyone, except for the student’s high school, without the
student’s written permission. A high school student may willingly sign a waiver granting the college the right to
communicate with parents regarding student progress, grades and attendance.
6) Fees may apply for specific courses.
7) Scholarships, Financial Aid, Academic Achievement and other programs could be impacted by dual enrollment.
8) North Carolina Public Colleges and Universities do not discriminate between AP courses vs. Dual Enrollment as a result
of the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement. However, students are encouraged to take courses in a variety of
instructional settings / modes of instruction, take the most rigorous courses they can handle and work hard to achieve
to the best of their ability.
9) For specific questions, student should contact directly the university or college they are interested in attending. They
are also encouraged to consult the four year degree plan for their intended major as well as the transfer equivalencies
for those colleges / universities.
Student Expectations: In addition to these guidelines, high school students and their parents should also be aware of the following while enrolled in College level courses through CCC:
High school students taking college courses at Carteret Community College will abide by the Student Code of Conduct and all other CCC Policies and Procedures.
Students must maintain enrollment in 4 classes at all times with the exception of the 2nd semester of senior year. Must keep up with course related information and all communications via email, Moodle and /or WebAdvisor. If classes are dropped, school counselors must be notified within 2 days of dropping the course and a replacement course
must be added in order to maintain the minimum high school enrollment requirements. The Carteret Community College calendar differs from the Carteret County Public Schools calendar. Any dual enrollment
course dropped must be done so within the first 5 days of the Carteret County Public Schools semester. Courses taken through dual enrollment are college level courses; therefore, all responsibility falls on the student. High school students are responsible for the $16.15 Dual Enrollment fee as well as applicable course fees, text books and
required course materials. Students with a documented disability or medical condition are required to request accommodations through the College’s
Disability Services department. Inclement weather delays /closures are posted on the CCC website and do not follow the public school calendar.
Parent and Student Certification: I have read, understand, and agree to the above Release of Information and Student
Expectations. Failure to comply with the Student Expectations may result in denial of future CCP course enrollment. Student Signature ________________________________________________ Date____________________________

Revised 10/02/2019
Dropping Courses
Students are required to notify their high school counselor within 2 days of dropping
a course. Students who drop classes without notifying their counselor will not be
allowed to re-enroll in CCP.
Unless they are a 2nd semester senior taking a reduced schedule, they are required to
pick up a replacement course within the first 5 days of the high school semester.
Students who drop courses after the deadline (first 5 days of high school semester) will
receive an “F” in that course on their high school transcript regardless of how the
community college handles this withdrawal.
Academic Progress and Attendance
Students enrolled in the College Transfer Pathway must have a 2.8 on their high
school transcript EVERY semester in order to continue in CCP. Any student who fails to meet the minimum attendance requirements as set forth by
CCC and receives a UW will also receive an “F” in that course on their high school transcript.
Students earning a D or F in a college course will only be allowed to take additional college courses after the student has taken a high school semester break from CCP AND demonstrates adequate progress in his/her high school courses.
The student may repeat the course for grade replacement only after the condition stated above has been met. Students are responsible for completing a grade replacement form.
Schedule Changes Carteret County Public Schools will post all schedule changes in one of the following ways: 1) on the website 2) an automated phone call via School Messenger or 3) via email. Students are expected to communicate these changes to their community college instructors.
General Information
CCP courses taken in the summer will not be included on the high school
transcript. Students are required to take a minimum of 2 high school courses every semester so
long as the student is taking a total of 4 courses with the exception of the second semester of their senior year when the minimum is 1 high school course so long as the student has at least two courses total.
Students are required to take courses for which there is an AP equivalent at their high school. Exceptions may be made if there is a legitimate scheduling conflict.
