Introduction before the battle of CannaeQuintus Fabius, the man who is in change of the Roman forces knew that Hannibal did not have enough men or equipment to capture Rome, so decided to avoid a battle and wear Hannibal down. The way seemed to work but people thought that it is impossible.Later, Hannibal plundered Italy and Fabius was replaced and two new generals Paullus and Varro who were chosen to replace.

Battle of CannaeOne of Romes greatest disastersPaullus and Varro led an army of 90,000 men against Hannibal. 70,000 troops of Rome were killed.Hannibal lost only 6000 men.People regret and think that Fabius was right.

After the Battle of CannaeVICTORY FOR CARNAGE !!!!!!!! DISASTER FOR ROME

After victory, Hannibal still did not feel ready to take over Rome and was never able to capture the city.

A part from the Book Living through History book 1 describing the shocking scene of the battle of CannaeOn the morning after the battle at Cannae the scene was shocking. Thousands of Romans were dying on the battlefield. Some begged people to cut their throats and put them out of their misery. Others were found with their heads plunged into the earth. They had dug holes and suffocated themselves by throwing earth over their faces. One Carthaginian with lacerated ears and nose was found under a dead Roman. The Roman had been wounded and so could not use his hands. As he died he bad torn at his enemy with his bare teeth.

Scipio the youngerAfricanus (nickname) by defeating Hannibal.263-183 BCScipio the Younger(the son of the general defeated at the river of Trebia) took an army to Spain and began winning wars.Studied the battle of Cannae to get the skills to win Hannibal.
