Catapult History
Ballistas were built around800 BC by the Greeks andfired off a sharp missile.
Ballistas were good against enemies but notagainst castles.
Trebuchets were the ultimate castle-destroying machine! Heavy counterweight was placed in a swinging box, which, when released, would sling the weapon (rock, dead and diseased bodies, etc.) into or over the castle wall. This was the first weapon that could take a castle down!
