LITURGY OF THE WORD February 7, 2021 - 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Job 7:1-4, 6-7 I am filled with restlessness until the dawn. Psalm 147 “Praise the Lord, who heals the broken- hearted.” 1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23 Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel. Mark 1:29-39 Jesus cured many who were sick. In ten days, Lent will begin and we will be reminded of Jesus’ sufferings, from forty days in the desert to His passion and death; but, today, we hear Job lamenting the tragedies that have come to define his life. His sufferings are to him, incomprehensible. He has lost all hope. None of us suffer as greatly as Job, but we have reason to hope. The psalmist reassures us that the Lord heals the wounded & brokenhearted. Paul willingly embraces his difficulties for the gospel. Jesus places the healing of the sick and troubled at the heart of His ministry. As we listen to today’s readings, let us look for hope in the Lord. (Source: Pastoral Patterns, Winter 2020 - 2021. NEWS FROM JOSEPH’S HOUSE

With many prayers of thanksgiving for all of our donors, volunteers and supporters, I would like to share with you our final statistics for 2020. Though I have heard from some that they did not know we were still open, we have indeed been open throughout the COVID Pandemic, doing our part to serve struggling households. Joseph’s House was blessed to serve 533 visitors with a total of $38,657.00 given in Direct Aid. Of this amount, $ 20,275.00 was given in direct support to those suffering food insecurity during the pandemic. Please know that without all of you, such loving care of our brothers and sisters in Christ would not have been possible. - Lori
