FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK What a great time we all had at our celebration of St. Anthony’s Feast. I want to thank our Social Committee and those who worked with them for all their work. I want to thank all those who placed an Ad in our Ad Book. Also, to all those who made our Liturgy so powerful and beautiful. Thank you. It’s hard to believe that we are in the month of November. November is a month of remembrance and thanksgiving. We remember all our loved ones at Mass. Please submit names in the envelopes that are found in the pews. Visit our display of our loved ones and sign the book. Our Restoration Fund collection got off to a good start. Thank you. Now, I can have my macaroni and meatballs. Fr. George

* CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

The second collection to be taken up at all Masses this weekend will be for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Your donation will help communities all over the world change structures of poverty and build an economy based on justice and the dignity of the human person. Please be generous.

* NOVEMBER 13TH SECOND COLLECTION

The envelope company made a mistake and supposed to make the second collection next weekend for our PROPERTY INSURANCE. Instead they made the envelope out for our Grand Annual. Therefore, please use your envelopes for November 13th for our Property Insurance. The second installment of the Grand Annual will be on the weekend of December 3rd and 4th. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The Thirty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Our Parish Theme SongLord, you have come to the seashore,

neither searching for the rich nor the wise, desiring only that I should follow.

O Lord, with your eyes set upon me gently smiling,

you have spoken my name; all I long for I found by the water, at your side

I will seek other shores. CONFIRMATION NEWS

The Thirty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

FAITH FORMATION NEWS First of all, a great big THANK YOU to all the children who dressed as saints for our entrance procession for the feast of St. Anthony of Padua last Sunday. Everyone felt to blessed to have you with us! We have our regular scheduled classes this weekend. Grades 1 and 2 and Sacramental Prep from 8:45 until 9:45. Grades 3 through 8 and older Sacramental Prep from 11:00 until 12:00. Next weekend there are NO CLASSES due to the Veteran’s Day holiday. Please take time to thank those wonderful veterans that made our country strong and free. On Sunday, November 20th, we will have our annual food drive to support the Revere Food Pantry. Please send a donation of non-perishable food with your child to Mass to bring up during the Offertory. Have a wonderful weekend! Donna M. Felzani

VETERAN’S DAY, NOVEMBER 11Each year on November 11th, America honors all Veterans who protected this wonderful nation with their lives. Jesus said, “No greater love has man than when he gives up his life for another”. When Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7th, 1941, “a day which will live in infamy” young men from all over the United States ran to join the military to protect their country. Some not even age 17 lied about their age so they could join. They were not afraid to give up their lives for their country.

Prayer for Servicemen O Merciful Father, You desire the welfare of all your children. Stretch out Your protecting arm over our men and women in the service. Shield them from every danger to body, mind and soul. Comfort them in loneliness, sustain them in hardship, give them the courage they need to fulfill their duty, and do Your will in all things. Bestow on our leaders and the leaders of the world the wisdom and prudence which will bring peace and justice to all men. This we ask through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord. Amen.

THANK YOU TO ALL VETERANS GOD BLESS AMERICA

DONATIONS OF NON PERISHABLE FOOD The Revere Food Pantry is in need of food. We ask our parishioners that when they come to Church to please bring a donation of non-perishable food.

* THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS

Many come to Saint Anthony’s requesting help for the holidays. Our St. Vincent DePaul Society tries to help them the best it can. However, our funds are in need of donations in order to meet the many requests we receive. We ask you to please keep this in mind and help us by making a donation to our St. Vincent DePaul Society. Thank you for your consideration.

* FINANCIAL MATTERS

A total of $3,257.37 was received at the Offertory of all Masses last weekend. (A total of $4,100 is needed each week in order for us to meet our weekly expenses.) $3,882.21was received at the second collection for the Restoration Fund.

Purgatory

“The fire of Purgatory is the same as the fire of hell; the difference between them is that the fire of purgatory is not everlasting”

St. John Vianney

The Catholic Church is in three states. They are the triumphant Church (Heaven), the militant Church (on the earth) and the suffering Church (Purgatory). The month of November is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. The Catholic Church formulated its doctrine on purgatory at the councils of Florence and Trent based on holy scripture and tradition. In the book of 2 Maccabeus we read that “Judas Maccabeus made atonement for the dead, so that they might be delivered from their sins”. (2Mac.112:45). The unholy or unclean cannot enter Heaven. (Rev. 21:27). The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains it more clearly: “All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of Heaven.” (CCC.No: 1030). The Catholic Church further instructs us that the holy souls in heaven can intercede for us, but the holy souls in purgatory cannot pray for themselves to enter heaven. While on this earth it is the duty of the militant Church to pray for the suffering Church. Purgatory is not eternal. When we offer holy Mass, prayers, and sacrifices in honor of the souls in purgatory, their sins will be forgiven and they will enter the joy of Heaven. Let us offer all our prayers for the souls in purgatory throughout this month in a special manner. Let us teach our children about the souls in purgatory and the habit of praying for them. (continued next column)

The Thirty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Purgatory

Prayer: Merciful God, I thank You for all the gifts in my life. Give me the grace to be away from sins which are always a hindrance to have close communion with You. Bless me to pray for the souls in purgatory so that they may enter the joys of Heaven. I ask this prayer through Christ, our Lord. Amen. Edited and compiled by Fr. Heni

+ November 6

Thirty second Sunday in Ordinary Time We need to hear Jesus’ words to the Thessalonians – especially on this weekend before our national election. God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, - loves us and gives us “everlasting encouragement and good hope”. Paul’s prayer for the Thessalonians can be our prayer, “May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the endurance of Christ.” As people of faith, as disciples, we must bring the Word of God into the marketplace and into our lives with our families, with co-workers, and neighbors.
