How Information and Communication Technologies are used to assist learning

Social climate

Parent, student and teacher satisfaction with the school

We integrate technology into everyday teaching and learning through the use of interactive technology in curriculum (Scottle, IWBs). We use the student portal & develop a policy/agreement on appropriate use and intend to increase knowledge of digital citizenship. Student-centred/inquiry learning models the use of online applications/interactive tools for staff. We show evidence of student use of ICTs in learning and assessment tasks. We utilise school portal with staff notes published via portal, use discussion boards, share documents and set up online helpdesk. We provide reliable network infrastructure to support teaching and learning. We use new school information system and increased access to interactive classroom technologies with projectors and IWBs in all classrooms. We increase access to curriculum-based tools with student and staff access to ipods.

We believe that a students achievement and learning, is enhanced through the use of appropriate behaviour. Appropriate behaviour is a consequence of being a considerate person. A considerate person is someone who is: cooperative, self controlled, self confident, independent & social. We want students to be considerate. We timetable and teach school rules, and Games Factory games, so that students will learn : - a sense of right and wrong, and do the right thing, even without supervision, because it’s the right thing to do; - to manage emotions so that they learn to cope with setbacks in life & that their outbursts do not disturb those around them - to use cooperative skills, so that they can have their needs met. - potency … a sense that the student can make a difference to themselves and their world and can act on their values. Games Factory Games are time tabled and taught games 4 times a week for 20 minutes a session. The purpose behind the games is that they allow children the opportunity to practice the social and emotional skills they need to be a considerate person in our world today. "Practice makes perfect"! We employ strategies in classrooms to move students from being 'authority dependent' to having self control these include: Community Circles, Are You Ready?, Traffic Lights & Scenarios teaching.

In 2010 our school underwent an External Review. The External Review was a highly favourable and the panel found: Staff ... are well versed with the review processes and affirmed the manner in which the school leadership led the review of the components. Parents, School Board, P&F confirmed that they are well informed about school processes and valued the targeted survey instruments and communication strategies such as the newsletter. The students demonstrated that they are active and respected participants in the life of the school. The panel notes that the students nominated that the teachers use “good and interesting teaching methods” and make use of a “variety of strategies”. Our Internal School Review parent responses indicate high rates of satisfaction in the following components (with and average rating of 6/7) with 1.3 Prayer & Worship; 1.4 Social Action & Justice and 3.54 Student Well Being & Pastoral Care.
