Dear Parishioners, The fourth of July is a day of parades, political speeches, fireworks and backyard barbecues. But most of all, it is a day of celebrating our Independence; which was won and is maintained by the sacrifice of many lives. Our Independence is rooted in our dependence on God. We are contingent, dependent beings. That is why the First Commandment is also the greatest Commandment. Only if we are entirely dependent on God can we enjoy freedom. Either we are dependent on God or we will be dependent on some creature. This dependence on God is clearly stated in our Declaration of Independence. It begins like this, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, and that they are endowed by their Creator with inalienable rights…” And it ends “with a firm reliance on Divine Providence we pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our honor…” Our nation was founded on the belief in God. The President takes his oath of office by placing his hand on the Bible, the Word of God, and ends with, “So help me God.” In our pledge of allegiance, we say, “One nation, under God...” Engraved on our money is “In God we trust.” Our Congress has a chaplain who begins each session with a prayer and all our military branches provide chaplains to the soldiers. Our Founding Fathers may have opted for a separation of Church and state but not for separation of God and State. There is no brotherhood of man without the Fatherhood of God. What the Constitution guarantees is not freedom FROM religion but freedom OF religion, freedom to practice religion. As we commemorate our independence this weekend, may we be grateful to God and the spirit of America’s independence remains true to our nation’s founding principles. In Jesus and Mary,
Queridos Feligreses,

Congratulations John & Marie Burke on your 50th Wedding Anniversary!
Fatima – Hope of the World! Our Lady of Fatima needs YOU to help win the world back to God!!
1st Saturdays: Jul 6, Aug 3, Sep 7, Oct 5, Nov 2, Dec 7… Holy Mass 8:00 AM Rosary with special Fatima prayers Immediately after the 8:00am Mass in front rows of church Meditation 15 minutes before Mass or after Rosary
Confession at St. Stephen’s Wed: 5 – 5:30pm Sat: 4 – 4:30pm 1st Friday: 5 – 5:30pm (Can go to confession anywhere)
Please join St. Stephen’s… As we say “Yes” to Our Lady of Fa ma to the five First Saturday devotion and obtain graces to help her bring souls back to God and Peace to the world! Why FIVE first Saturdays? According to Sister Lucia, five First Saturdays of reparation were requested to atone for the five ways in which people offend the Immaculate Heart of Mary: 1: attacks against her Immaculate Conception. 2. attacks against her Perpetual Virginity. 3. attacks against her Divine Maternity and the refusal to accept her as the Mother of all mankind. 4. for those who try to publicly implant, in the hearts of children’s hearts indifference, contempt and even hatred of this Immaculate Mother. 5: those who insult her directly in her sacred images.
Our Lady explained the 1st Saturday’s to Sister Lucia on Dec 10, 1925: See, my daughter, my Heart encircled by thorns which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. Do you, at least,
strive to console me? Tell them I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation all those who, in order to make reparation to me, on the First Saturday of five successive months, 1. Go to confession (8 days before or after) 2. Receive Holy Communion 3. Say 5 decades of the Rosary 4. Keep me company for 15 minutes by meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary. *Do all in a spirit of Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and do in 5 successive months.
Will you answer Our Lady’s call? For more information on the Five First Saturday’s Our Lady is requesting, please go to: https://wafusa.org/
