At Caxton, our Summer courses are designed to make the most of the Summer months in the most enjoyable way possible, combining English lessons with fun workshops and sports.

Students work with specialist teachers in reduced groups to learn in a dynamic class, tailored to their needs.

In class, students will work in small groups of 5 with one adult. There will be four sets of toys available for each group, so the toys used in a day will be cleaned and sanitized at the end of the day and stored for 72 hours before their next use.

School staff will always wear a face mask during the school day. Teachers and assistants will pay special attention for children’s handwashing on a regular basis during the day.

There will be drinking fountains available for water bottle filling only, they must not be used for drinking water directly.

Classes are planned so that students have to use English all the time, while practising the four basic skills. Levels are structured according to the European Common Framework for Language Learning.

Each level has its own specific objectives, and students’ progress is measured not only through continual assessment, but also by taking into account their effort and class participation. At the end of the course, parents receive a detailed report on their child’s progress and will have an interview with the teacher online, through the platform Google Meet.

This summer you will learn English while

    MedicalAssistance

Caxton College has a school clinic that attends to immediate medical needs our students may have.

In the case that a student feels unwell or shows any symptoms of illness, the school nurse will be informed by phone or e-mail. The school nurse will assess the situation and will visit the student in the classroom to check their health condition.

Whenever possible, the pupil will receive assistance in the classroom, so the visits to the clinic can be minimized.

If a student needs a medical care that cannot be carried out in the classroom, they will visit the clinic. Only one student will be allowed in the clinic for medical assistance at once.

If a student needs medical care during the playground or lunch time, the school nurse will go to the meeting point or will instruct the dining room or playground staff to accompany the student to the school clinic.

If it is necessary to inform parents to pick up their child, the school nurse will instruct the student to wait depending on their condition in the classroom, at the main office or in the clinic.

  • 11 CAXTON COLLEGE English Summer

The parents need to be available to pick up their child if they show symptoms of the illness within 60 minutes after receiving a phone call from the nurse.

Any pupils with fever or showing symptoms compatible with the COVID-19 disease will wait in an isolated room having to wear a mask until they are collected.

Any pupils with temperature 37°C or above will leave home and will be able to return to school 48 hours after the fever is gone with no need for antipyretic medication (for example, paracetamol or ibuprofen).

No medication can be brought from home into the school for its administration.

If a student has been ill with COVID-19:

They will adhere to the recommended isolation period of 14 days. After this time, isolation should no longer be necessary if the following 3 criteria are met:

    • Being fever free for at least 72 hours (three full days without the use of antipyretic medicine).

    • Improvement of respiratory symptoms (coughing and breathing difficulties have decreased).

    • It has been more than 10 days since the onset of symptoms, and the person has been fully recovered for more than 3 days.

    • Listening to stories

    • Singing topic songs

    • Learning and joining in with action songs

    • Exploring water and sand

    • Constructiong with blocks or small bricks

    • Exploring paint and other materials

    Stories that we will read:

    Children will learn to:

    • Listen with interest to stories and songs• Learn new voacbulary related to the topic and daily routines• Play and explore with a range of materials

We base our activities around the topic ‘In the Garden’ which provides the children opportunities to learn about minibeasts and plants.
