All Welcome

Welcome back to Week 7 of Term 4

Victor Chang was an outstanding cardiothoracic surgeon, and one of the leading heart surgeons in the world. He pioneered the future of cardiothoracic surgery and research in Australia. He was responsible for developing Australia’s National Heart Transplant Programme and, at the time of his death, was working on the develop-ment of an artificial heart valve, which would be used to support seriously ill patients who were awaiting heart transplants. Victor Chang nurtured a vision to establish an internationally-recognised cardiac research centre at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. With his tragic and untimely death in 1991 efforts to realise Victor’s dream accelerated resulting in generous donations which enabled the establishment of The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. The institute now awards the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute School Science Award for students in Year 11, developed to foster and encourage an interest in science among secondary school students and to promote careers in science as a viable and interesting career path.

On Friday 10 November 2017 George Payne attended the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute Science Award ceremony at Junee High School with family. On behalf of the school community, congratulations to George for winning this prestigious award. Pictured is George with a representative from the Victor Chang Institute.

Year 5/6 Canberra Excursion The Year 5/6 students are becoming increasingly excited at the imminent excursion to Canberra next week. Students will depart for Canberra next Tuesday, 28 November 2017. The expectation is that all students will wear full school uniform (not sports uniform or Year 6 shirts) to both Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial as a remark of respect. To assist parents, students in Years 5 and 6 are not required to wear school uniform the day before departing, next Monday, 27 November, with the expectation students will have clean, ironed uniforms to wear on the days required. While Mr Watts is on the excursion Year 4 students in his class will be provided with alternate supervision. Primary Intensive Swimming The Primary Intensive Swimming program commences in Week 9 on Tuesday, 5 December 2017. Parents and carers are asked to assist with organisation by returning the permission notes sent home previously. End of Year Calendar – Save These Dates As we approach the end of the year a number of important school events will take place. These include:

Annual Presentation Night, which will be held on Tuesday, 12 December 2017, commencing at 7.00 pm in the School Hall.

Year 6 Farewell Dinner, which will be held on Thursday, 14 December 2017. Year 6 Farewell Assembly, which will be held in the School Hall on Friday, 15 December 2017.

Whole School Merit Assembly, which will be held in the School Hall on Thursday, 14 December 2017.

Semester Two K-10 Student Reports will be sent home with students on Thursday, 14 December 2017. Until next week,
