ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I take immense pleasure in completing this project. The project “A Comparative Study of CDMA Providers of Different Teleservices Companies” has been full of learning. I would like to give my sincere thanks to a host of friends and the teachers who, through their guidance, enthusiasm and counseling helped us enormously. As I think there will be always need of improvement. A part from this, I hope this study paper would stimulate the need of thinking and discussion on the topics like this one.

EXECUTIVE SUMMERY

The telecom industry may be one bright spot in a troubled world

economy. While global growth is forecast by The Conference Board to

grow at about 3% annually from 2012 to 2016, worldwide

telecommunications services revenue is projected to increase from $2.1

trillion in 2012 to $2.7 trillion in 2017 at a combined average growth rate

of 5.3%, according to a news release announcing a new market research

report by The Insight Research Corporation.

Demand from consumers and businesses for wireless services is

reportedly fueling that industry revenue growth. Geographically, Asia and

other emerging markets will boost wireless revenues by 64%, while wire

line revenues are expected to show only modest growth.

Most of the growth in both the wireless and wire line sectors is expected

to come from broadband services, with wireless 3G and 4G broadband

services forecast to grow at a compounded rate of 24% from 2012 to

2017. Over the same period, wire line broadband services are predicted to

grow at a compounded rate of 13%.

Congruent with the report’s information that Asia and emerging markets

will be important for telecom growth, The Conference Board projects that

overall gross domestic product (GDP) growth between 2012 and 2016

will be 7% in China, 6.4% in India, and 4.1% in “other developing Asia.”

“Despite global economic uncertainty, the telecommunications industry is

showing strong revenue growth, which is being driven by consumer

Internet usage and business mobility solutions. These are enabling new

applications,” said Fran Caulfield, Research Director for Insight

Research.

As the telecom services sector projects growth, so too are mobile phone

manufacturers readying next-generation products to drive sales.

INTRODUCTION OF CDMA SIM CDMA, or Code Division Multiple Access, is a competing cell phone service technology to GSM, which is the world’s most widely used cell phone standard.

CDMA uses a “spread-spectrum” technique whereby electromagnetic energy is spread to allow for a signal with a wider bandwidth. This allows multiple people on multiple cell phones to be “multiplexed” over the same channel to share a bandwidth of frequencies.

With CDMA technology, data and voice packets are separated using codes and then transmitted using a wide frequency range. Since more space is often allocated for data with CDMA, this standard became attractive for 3G high-speed mobile Internet use.

The CDMA standard was originally designed by Qualcomm in the U.S. and is primarily used in the U.S. and portions of Asia by other carriers

SALIENT FEATURES OF CDMA

SALIENT FEATURES OF CDMA

1. It is an advanced communication Technology.

2. It has Anti-Jam and Security Features.

3. Largest Capacity as Compared to other Technology like FDMA and TDMA.

4. It Uses Spread Spectrum Technology.

5. Better use of the Multipath.

6. Frequency Reuse.

*FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access)-

FDMA is a multiple method in which user are assigned specific frequency bands. The user has sole right of using the frequency band for the entire call duration.

*TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access)-

In TDMA an assigned frequency band shared among a few users. However, each user is allowed to transmit predetermined time slots. Hence, channelization of user is achieved through separation in time.

SWOT ANALYSIS

Page 30: CDMA Project

India has become only the second country in the world to have more than 100 million CDMA-based (code division multiple access) mobile phone subscribers after the US, which has 157 million CDMA users, according to an industry body.

While India overtook China to become the second-largest CDMA market, the country's leading service provider Reliance Communications (RCOM) has become the second-largest CDMA service provider behind the USA's Verizon Wireless, the CDMA Development Group (CDG) said here on Thursday. Tata Teleservices is ranked fourth in the list of top global players, behind China Telecom.
