In Mark’s Gospel, the story about Bartimaeus is more than the story about blindness
and the restoration of sight. It is an account of faith because after his sight was restored,
Bartimaeus followed Jesus along the road. An important note is that Jericho is not far
from Jerusalem, the place of Christ’s suffering. The symbolism cannot be lost because
faith has this effect: to know Christ is to follow Him in suffering.
Basically, Mark’s theology is simply that Christ is the one who brings salvation to
Israel. Therefore, healings are a sign that Christ’s salvation is already in the world.
Consider that in Mark, very few recognize Jesus as the Messiah. So, it is remarkable and
ironical that we have a blind man who recognizes Jesus by acknowledging Him with the
title of the Messiah: Son of David. And the Messiah’s response to Bartimaeus is not “You
are healed” but “Go, your faith has saved you”. A closer reading of the Gospel reveals
that blindness actually describes a lack of faith and not the lack of vision.
Thus the Gospel invites us to take a second look at how blind we can be in
recognizing the Lord and how slow we can be in responding to Him. What sort of faith
are we to have?

The Daily Prayer of Saint Teresa
Dear Jesus, help me to spread your fragrance everywhere I go. Flood my soul with your spirit and
love. Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that all my life may only be a radiance of You.
Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Your presence in
my soul. Let them look up and see no longer me but only Jesus. Stay with me and then I shall begin
to shine as you shine, so to shine as to be a light to others. Amen.

Devotion to the Sacred Heart, as we know it, began about the year 1672. On repeated occasions,
Jesus appeared to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, a Visitation nun, in France, and during these
apparitions He explained to her the devotion to His Sacred Heart as He wanted people to practice it.
he asked to be honored in the symbol of His Heart of flesh; he asked for acts of reparation, for
frequent Communion, Communion on the First Friday of the month, and the keeping of the Holy
Hour.
When the Catholic Church approved the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, she did not base
her action only on the visions of Saint Margaret Mary. The Church approved the devotion on its own
merits. There is only one Person in Jesus, and that Person was at the same time God and Man. His
Heart, too, is Divine -- it is the Heart of God.
There are two things that must always be found together in the devotion to the Sacred Heart:
Christ's Heart of flesh and Christ's love for us. True devotion to the Sacred Heart means devotion to
the Divine Heart of Christ insofar as His Heart represents and recalls His love for us.
In honoring the Heart of Christ, our homage lingers on the Person of Jesus in the fullness of His
love. This love of Christ for us was the moving force of all he did and suffered for us -- in Nazareth,
on the Cross, in giving Himself in the Blessed Sacrament, in His teaching and healing, in His
praying and working. When we speak of the Sacred Heart, we mean Jesus showing us His Heart,
Jesus all love for us and all lovable.
Jesus Christ is the incarnation of God's infinite love. The Human Nature which the Son of God
took upon Himself was filled with love and kindness that has never found an equal. He is the perfect
model of love of God and neighbor.
Every day of His life was filled with repeated proofs of "Christ's love that surpasses all
knowledge" (Eph 3:19). Jesus handed down for all time the fundamental feature of His character:
"Take My yoke upon your shoulders and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of Heart" (Mt
11:29). He invited all, refusing none, surprising friends and rivals by His unconditional generosity.
The meaning of love in the life of Jesus was especially evident in His sufferings. Out of love for His
Father He willed to undergo the death of the Cross. "The world must know that I love the Father and
do just as the Father has commanded Me" (Jn 14:31).
The love that Jesus bore toward us also urged Him to undergo the death of the Cross. At the Last
Supper, He said, "There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends" (Jn 15:13)
The Heart of Jesus never ceases to love us in heaven. He sanctifies us through the Sacraments.
These are inexhaustible fountains of grace and holiness which have their source in the boundless
ocean of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Reading 1 JEREMIAH 31:7 -9
Thus says the LORD: Shout with joy for Jacob, exult at the head of the nations; proclaim your
praise and say: The LORD has delivered his people, the remnant of Israel. Behold, I will bring them
back from the land of the north; I will gather them from the ends of the world, with the blind and the
lame in their midst, the mothers and those with child; they shall return as an immense throng. They
departed in tears, but I will console them and guide them; I will lead them to brooks of water, on a
level road, so that none shall stumble. For I am a father to Israel, Ephraim is my first-born.
Hear what the spirit is saying to the church.

Responsorial Psalm PSALM 126:1-2 , 2-3 , 4-5 , 6
R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.
When the LORD brought back the captives of Zion, we were like men dreaming. Then our mouth
was filled with laughter, and our tongue with rejoicing.
R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.
Then they said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." The LORD has done
great things for us; we are glad indeed.
R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.
Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like the torrents in the southern desert. Those that sow in tears shall
reap rejoicing.
R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.
Although they go forth weeping, carrying the seed to be sown, They shall come back rejoicing,
carrying their sheaves.
R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.
Reading 2 HEBREW 5:1-6
Brothers and sisters:
Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts
and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset
by weakness and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. No
one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. In the same way,
it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said to him:
You are my son: this day I have begotten you; just as he says in another place: You are a priest
forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
Hear what the spirit is saying to the church.
Thanks be to God

Gospel MARK 10:46-52
As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the
son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry
out and say, "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me." And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent.
But he kept calling out all the more, "Son of David, have pity on me." Jesus stopped and said, "Call
him." So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you."
He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want
me to do for you?" The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told him, "Go your
way; your faith has saved you." Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.

XXX Domingo ordinario
Primera lectura Jer 31, 7-9
había dicho: Tú eres mi Hijo, yo te he engendrado hoy.
OFFERTORY
When we take communion, it symbolizes the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf. The wine and
the bread in communion represent the blood and body of Jesus that was poured out and broken as a
sacrifice for our gift of salvation.
Just like some gifts will always remind us of where we were when we received them, communion
reminds us of where we were when we met Jesus. Communion is a time when we collectively reflect
on the covenant that binds us together. It’s also a time to individually reflect on the price Jesus paid
for us to be in a relationship with Him.
Reflect:
Think back to where you were when you asked Jesus into your life. Where were you? What
happened?
What are two ways that communion is a great reminder of the sacrifice Jesus made on your
behalf?
What’s one way you can show gratitude for the gift of salvation?
