Suggested School-wide Activities Book Talks: (K-12) Focusing on Humanity Reader’s Theater Choices Drop Everything and Read (DEAR Daily) (K-12) Door Contest (K-12) Monday, January 25 Elementary School: Humanity Themed Read Aloud(s) - (Guest Readers) Middle School: “Spread the Word” – On the Hunt for a Good Book! Students, faculty and staff will wear camouflage clothing. Gadsden High School: Begin door-decorating contest - Decorations should reflect the theme, highlighting diversity in literature. Share favorite books. Tuesday, January 26 Elementary School: “Human Rights Tree” – Promote appreciation of the common citizenship of humanity. Students will work cooperatively to create an image (tree) that helps to define human rights and human needs. “Wear Green” Middle School: Create a collage of individuals who have dedicated their lives for the betterment of humanity. High School: Be a Fan of Reading! Students, faculty, and staff will wear their favorite team sports gear. Wednesday, January 27 Elementary: “Celebrate Diversity” – Students will draw self –portraits to create classroom diversity quilts. Middle School: ‘People in Poetry” – Students will listen and respond to the poem, “The Hill We Climb” by !manda Gorman. Students will then write their own poems. High School: Word up Wednesday! Students, faculty and staff will wear a shirt with words to encourage reading, the shirt must be appropriate. Thursday, January 28 Elementary School: “Random !cts of Kindness” – Students will brainstorm about ways to show kindness to others. Students will then put their words to action and demonstrate kind gestures throughout the day. Students will write about how it made them and others feel. Middle School: Spread the Word! Share a word of kindness and gratitude by writing a letter to a teacher, friend, first responder, or community service leader. High School: Team Up For Literacy!     Drive-up Literacy Gift Bags- Tallahassee Community College has partnered with GWM to provide students and parents gift bags with literacy material (books, pencils, literacy tips, Adult Educational material, etc.) during parent pick-up (3:30 pm – 4:15 pm).

    Cozy Up to Reading- All students will be encouraged to bring a small stuffed animal or pillow to cuddy with while reading having one of the following beverages: (2-4 oz. of Hot Chocolate/w Marshmallows, Apple Cider and/or Chocolate/Strawberry Milk) teacher will decide the beverage.

    Students will receive a Prize for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner.

    Each student will be given a Banana for snack while they read a book.

    Book Character Dress Up!

    Students/Faculty/Staff will dress in their favorite book character attire.

    Tigers are Wild about Reading

    Students and teachers will wear clothing with animal print and

    wild colored socks to show they are “wild” about reading. Uniform

    bottoms must be worn.

    Tuesday, January 26

    Book Character Day

    Faculty and Staff will dress as their favorite book character.

    Students will get an opportunity to guess the book characters

    around the campus.

    Note: Only staff will dress for the student’s entertainment.

    Wednesday, January 27

    “Extra, Extra Read All About”

    Students and teachers will wear white and black uniforms to

    symbolize newspapers. In their social studies classes, they will

    spend 10 minutes reading an article(s) from one or more

    newspapers.

    Thursday, January 28

    T-Shirt Literacy Day

    Students and teachers will be encouraged to wear a t-shirt with

    writing on it. Uniform bottoms must be worn.

    Friday, January 29

    Be a Good Sport and Read!

    Students and teachers will wear sports/team clothing to show
