Cemitas Puebla Set to Close in Humboldt Park After 13 Years: Owner HUMBOLDT PARK -- The original Cemitas Puebla will close in Humboldt Park, according to owner Tony Anteliz, who opened the shop 13 years ago with his father near the same block where he was raised. Cemitas Puebla Set to Close in Humboldt Park After 13Years: Owner
HUMBOLDT PARK -- The original Cemitas Puebla will close in Humboldt Park, according to ownerTony Anteliz, who opened the shop 13 years ago with his father near the same block where he wasraised.
"This neighborhood has always been very special to me, which is why I'm sad to announce that[,]after not being able to come to terms with the new owner of the building, we are closing our doors,"Anteliz said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
Anteliz said there were "many, many times" in the early days at the original Cemitas Puebla inHumboldt Park that he closed the shop selling less than two dozen cemitas. After a feature on"Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and opening a Fulton Market location in September 2014, heestimated that he sold 1,100 on a weekend day between the two restaurants.
"I've been humbled a million, million times, but the sweet ain't as good without the bitter," the 38-year-old said, days after opening his second location.
The original shop may be closing but Anteliz says he plans to bring Cemitas Puebla back toHumboldt Park in the future.
"Please know that this is only a temporary setback and I'm confident we will find our futureHumboldt Park location soon," he said in a statement.
