2010 Centennial Conference Women’s Basketball Guide - 12 Bryn Mawr Owls First Year of Basketball: 1949-50 All-Time Record: 235-609-1 The Owls turn to one of their own in an attempt to become more competitive within the Centennial Conference. Deb Charamella, a 2005 graduate of Bryn Mawr and a three-year assistant under Katie Tarr, takes over the reins as head coach and looks to improve upon a 2-23 record from 2009. The cupboard is not empty, as three starters are back in the fold, including seniors Shanika Bridges-King and Caroline Heffernan. Bridges-King (pictured, top) averaged 12.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in the first semester before going abroad. Heffernan was second on the team in rebounding at 6.7 per game and had 17 blocked shots. Her presence in the middle will cause problems for opposing pivot players. Junior Emilie Naccarato (pictured, bottom) headlines the backcourt. She saw action in 22 games, averaging 10.8 points with a team-best 64 assists. She is also the team’s top long-range threat, knocking down 50 three-point goals last season. Soph Lindsey Darvin will join her in the backcourt. She averaged 5.4 points off the bench as a rookie. Charamella hopes that a pair of freshmen - Cassie Kosarek and Rudi Vanzin - will also step up and contribute in their first collegiate season. The Owls have some distance to travel to a Conference playoff spot. But the journey begins with a first step and Bryn Mawr hopes that one of its own can point the program in the right direction. 2009-10 Preseason Owl Roster No Name Pos Yr Ht Hometown / High School 10 Allaina Propst F So 5-10 Hawley, PA / Honesdale 12 Chloe Weeks G Fr 5-4 Tucson, AZ / Green Fields Country Day 13 Cassie Kosarek F Fr 6-0 Kinnelon, NJ / DePaul Catholic 14 Emilie Naccarato G Jr 5-2 Valparaiso, IN / Wheeler 15 Yuan Qiao F Jr 5-10 Hebei, China / Raflles Junior College 20 Shanika Bridges-King F Sr 5-7 Roxbury, MA / English 22 Lindsey Darvin G So 5-6 Gladstone, NJ / Bernards 23 Caroline Heffernan F Sr 5-8 Pittsburgh, PA / Fox Chapel 25 Soraya Terrab F Fr 5-10 Tangier / American School of Tangier 32 Rudi Vanzin F Fr 5-8 Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon Head Coach: Debra Charamella Career Record: 0-0 (1st season) At Bryn Mawr: 0-0 (1st season) Assistant Coach: Jessica Allen 2009-10 Schedule Date Opponent Time N20 ROSEMONT ..................................... 6:00 N21 BMC TIP-OFF TOURNEY ........... 2/4:00 N24 HAVERFORD .................................. 5:00 D1 at Ursinus........................................... 7:00 D3 WASHINGTON................................ 7:00 D5 at Gettysburg ..................................... 1:00 D9 MUHLENBERG ............................... 7:00 D12 McDANIEL....................................... 2:00 J5 at Cedar Crest .................................... 7:00 J7 at Johns Hopkins ............................... 7:00 J9 at Dickinson....................................... 2:00 J12 GETTYSBURG ................................ 7:00 J14 at Franklin & Marshall ...................... 6:00 J16 at Haverford....................................... 1:00 J19 PSU-BRANDYWINE ....................... 8:00 J23 at Johns Hopkins ............................... 6:00 J27 SWARTHMORE .............................. 7:00 J30 at McDaniel ....................................... 1:00 F1 URSINUS .......................................... 7:00 F3 at Washington.................................... 6:00 F6 at Dickinson....................................... 2:00 F10 at Muhlenberg ................................... 6:00 F13 FRANKLIN & MARSHALL............ 2:00 F17 at Swarthmore ................................... 7:00

Dickinson Red Devils First Year of Basketball: 1968-69

All-Time Record: 381-447

With three starters back in the fold from a squad that qualified for the five-team Centennial tournament last year, the Red Devils are positioned to return to the tourney and make a run at the Conference championship. Head coach Dina Henry welcomes back one of the top players in the Conference in Brooke Muller (pictured, top). The senior was second in the CC in scoring at 16.7 points per game last season, while also topping the team in assists (69) and placing third in steals (58). Her 39 three-point goals led the team and she also shot 81 percent from the charity stripe. Annie O’Donnell and Taylor Miller will also see time in the backcourt. O’Donnell saw action in all 26 games, starting nine, while contributing 2.9 points per game. Miller also played in every game, chipping in 1.9 ppg and leading the team in free throw percentage (87.9). Keep an eye on freshman Lindsay Finnerty who scored over 1,500 points in her scholastic career. Carole Dempsey and Alesha Sisco are a pair of returning starters at the forward spot. Dempsey aveaged 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and blocked a team-high 16 shots. Sisco (pictured, bottom) added 12.5 points and led the Devils in field goal percentage (53.1) and steals (62). Olivia Dewey could join the duo in the frontcourt. She started 15 games last winter, chipping in 2.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest. Dickinson has the experience to make a run at the Conference playoffs. If the Devils improve on a 5-8 record away from the Kline Center, don’t be surprised to see the Red and White in the hunt for a first-round bye.

Franklin & Marshall Diplomats First Year of Basketball: 1974-75

All-Time Record: 478-377

It will be strange to be at Mayser Center and not see #24 in uniform. Sarah Meisenberg, the 2008 CC Player of the Year, has graduated after a four-year career in which she scored over 1,500 points on her way to becoming one of the most decorated players in school history. But with two starters back in the fold, coach Ashlee Courter is not lowering her team’s expectations that begin with a Conference championship. Junior Beth Holt (pictured, top) is the leader of the backcourt. She started 17 games a year ago, averaging 8.5 points and 3.1 assists per game. Soph Megan Pauley (pictured, bottom) is the shooting guard after contributing 7.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest. Classmate Allison Bauer averaged 22 minutes per game off the bench last season, adding 4.3 points per game. Freshmen Alexa Barbush and Shelly Montagana will also push for time. Junior Alison Menna is the lone returnee up front, after averaging 3.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game last winter. Classmate Amy Chabitnoy will contend for a starting berth, while rookies Colleen Bott and Tracy Hahn could also contribute. The Diplomats have made the Conference playoffs in each of the past two seasons. The Blue and White could be in the hunt for a tournament berth come February if the youngsters adjust quickly to the collegiate game.

Gettysburg Bullets First Year of Basketball: 1945-46

All-Time Record: 563-470-8

Despite finishing in a tie for second place in the Conference last season, the Bullets missed the playoffs as four other teams with 11-7 Centennial marks had tie-breaker advantages on the Orange and Blue. The goal for the 2009-10 Gettysburg squad is simple … let no one stand in the way of the tournament. All five starters return for coach Mike Kirkpatrick in search of that goal, headed by junior forward Caitlin Moser (pictured, top). A first-team All-CC selection as a rookie, she was a second-team choice last winter after leading the team in scoring (15.8) and rebounding (6.4). Senior Courtney Fields is a solid shooter at the wing. She averaged 10.5 points per outing and stands fourth on the Gettysburg career list with 118 three-pointers. Look for Julie McGrory, Sara Kinsley and Lauren Dadigan to contribute significant minutes in the frontcourt.

Senior Allie Drechsler (pictured, bottom) and junior Mary Spicer head the backcourt. Drechsler has averaged better than nine points per game during her career and is ninth in career steals at the school with 142. Spicer had a breakout year with 8.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists per contest. Freshman Lisa Ridgeway could also make an impact. Gettysburg has the talent to return to the Conference tournament in 2010 with more consistent and disciplined play.

Haverford Fords First Year of Basketball: 1981

All-Time Record: 153-480

A 6-16 record belies the fact that the Fords may a lot of progress in coach Bobbi Morgan’s first season on the Main Line. Eight of Haverford’s 13 Conference losses were by eight points or less. A turnaround that changes half of those contests to wins and the Fords could be one of the surprise teams in the Conference. Just two starters are back from that squad but a talented recruiting class will bring enthusiasm and ability to Gooding Arena this winter. Sara Cram (pictured, top) and Elizabeth Mayell (pictured, bottom) return as starters in the frontcourt. Cram is the leading returning scorer at 5.8 ppg, while Mayell chipped in 2.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Three freshmen will see significant action - Victoria Sobocinski, Dominque Meeks and Meredith Schoyer. Four guards - Danielle and Domenique Harrison, Alejandra Alvarez and Allie Lieberman - all averaged more than 10 minutes per game last season and will push for starting jobs. Freshman Calla

Miller and Nina Voith will also contribute. Voith’s father - Dick - is the all-time leading scorer in Haverford men’s history. Morgan has the Fords pointed in the right direction but this is still a young squad. How quickly the freshmen adjust to the speed of the college game will determine Haverford’s fate in 2010.

Johns Hopkins Blue Jays First Year of Basketball: 1975-76

All-Time Record: 449-327

Talk about righting the ship. The Blue Jays opened last season at 1-7, but turned things around to win 13 of their final 19 games and reach the Centennial championship game. This year, with the return of three starters, Hopkins hopes for a fast start that can end with its first Conference title since 2003. Junior forward Lyndsay Burton (pictured, top) was a first-team All-Centennial pick last winter after averaging 15.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, while shooting nearly 55 percent from the floor. She can also play a little defense, leading the team in steals (49) and blocked shots (18). Senior Monica Mitchell and junior Siobhan Callanan will challenge for a starting berth alongside Burton, as will Nia Josiah, a transfer from Georgia Tech. Freshmen Sarah Higbee and Alexandra Vassila could also contribute. The backcourt is dominated with seniors. Anatasia Wynn (pictured, bottom) averaged 7.9 points per game in 24 starts, while Britni Lonesome came off the bench to add 3.9 points per outing. Katie Biggert started 18 games for the Jays, while soph Chantal Mattiola, who started 11 games, and classmate Stephanie Fong, who saw action in 25 contests, will also see time. Experience is not an issue for the 2009-10 edition of the Jays with seven seniors on the roster. Their time is now and the opportunity to unseat two-time defending CC champ Muhlenberg is in front of them.

McDaniel Green Terror First Year of Basketball: 1922 All-Time Record: 595-403-3

For a six-year period from 2002 to 2007, you could always count on McDaniel winning 20 games. That has not been the case the past two winters, but it could be a case of “Back to the Future” for the 2010 edition of the Green Terror. Four starters are back in the fold from a 15-12 squad that reached the Centennial semifinals. Leading the way is senior Ali Moreland (pictured, top). All she did last season was lead the team in scoring (13.3), assists (84) and steals (72) while grabbing 4.8 rebounds per outing. Freshman Katelyn Fischer could be Moreland’s running mate and handle the point. Sally Grace and Catherine Mills (pictured, bottom) will provide quality minutes in the backcourt, while Meg Biggart will contribute as well. The team’s two biggest inside presences are Ashley Lyles and Whitney Snoops. Lyles started 24 games last season, averaging 9.3 points and 6.1 rebounds while leading the Terror with 51 blocks. Snoops chipped in 7.3 points while topping the rebounding chart at 6.6 per game. Transfer Cara Thompson could also see time. The Green and Gold has been one of the premier programs in the Conference this decade. It would not surprise anyone to see this year’s squad uphold that tradition and create a legacy of its own.

Muhlenberg Mules First Year of Basketball: 1960

All-Time Record: 533-371

What do you do for an encore? How do you top a perfect 18-0 Conference record, followed by two playoff wins for a third Centennial title in four years? What can you do that’s better than handing Bowdoin its first-ever homecourt postseason loss on your way to the Sweet 16? Uh, make the next step? Easier said than done, after you’ve graduated four seniors that helped compile a record of 92-21. But “Don’t Cry for Me Allentown,” as the pieces are in place to make a run at an unprecedented Centennial three-peat. Junior Kelly McKeon (pictured, top) was a first-team All-Centennial guard last season, averaging 12.4 points, 4.97 assists and - get this - a team-leading 8.5 rebounds per game. Not bad for a 5-6 guard. She is joined in the backcourt by soph Alexandra Chili (pictured, bottom), who set the Conference on fire as a rookie with a team-leading 16.0 point per game average. She led the country in three-pointers (96) and her total was the third-highest ever by a Division III freshman. Junior Sheila Cook had a breakthrough year in the frontcourt, averaging 9.7 points and leading the Conference in field goal percentage (55.1). Senior Alexis Bates joins Cook after a season that saw her contribute 4.1 points and 3.6 caroms per contest. Kathleen Naddaff and Maiza Mock will also contribute valuable minutes. As if that is not enough, Muhlenberg adds transfer guard Alex Berlin from Loyola (Md.). She saw action in 29 games, starting eight, for the Greyhounds last season. The Mules were picked 10th in the preseason poll by D3hoops.com and a unanimous choice to repeat as Centennial champions. If ‘Berg can deal with the pressure of being a marked team each night, the next step could be attainable in West Allentown.

Swarthmore Garnet First Year of Basketball: 1909

All-Time Record: 544-649

The Garnet finished 8-16 a year ago and return four starters in its quest to return to the Centennial playoffs for the first time since 2005. Sophomore Kathryn Stockbower (pictured, left) had one of the best statistical freshman seasons in school and Conference history last winter, becoming just the second player to earn first-team All-Centennial honors as a rookie. She led the Conference in rebounding (14.0), was second in scoring (17.6) and third in blocked shots (35). Stockbower shot a team-leading 48.4 percent from the floor and registered 21 double-doubles on the season. She will be joined in the frontcourt by senior Pamela Costello and sophomore Summer Miller-Walfish – the tallest player in the CC at 6-5 – who rejected 45 shots as a freshman. Costello, who has mostly played on the wing, will move to the low post in 2009. She averaged 7.3 points and 4.4 boards a year ago. Soph Ceylan Bodur (pictured, bottom) looks to fill the secondary scoring role of graduated Karen Berk after averaging 8.5 ppg. last season. Senior Melissa Grigsby has the versatility to play at the point or the wing, while junior Amber Wantman returns to the club after a year off. She averaged 8.0 ppg. as a rookie in 2007. Freshman Nicole Rizzo is a good long-range shooter and could see playing time. Turnovers took their toll on Swarthmore last season, as the Garnet averaged 21.3 per game. Reducing that number and improving on the team field goal percentage (37.9) will be keys to Swat's success in 2009.

Ursinus Bears First Year of Basketball: 1918 All-Time Record: 690-528-19

After three straight winning seasons, Ursinus fell to an uncharacteristic 6-19 a year ago in an injury-plagued season. Now with a return to health by a number of key players, coach Jim Buckley feels that this year’s edition of the Bears is one of the deepest and most talented in recent memory. Six players with significant starting experience return, including All-Centennial center Carolyn Konstanzer (pictured). She led the team in scoring (12.6) and was second in rebounding (4.6) and field goal percentage (45.7) while missing eight games with injuries. Senior Julie Bown had a breakthrough year, averaging 9.6 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting a team-high 46.5 percent from the floor. Soph Lindsay Teuber missed the first half of the season but came on strong in the final 10 games, chipping in 7.9 points and 4.6 rebounds. Soph Ryann Burke adds depth in the paint, while Alex Shivers could also see time after returning from injury. Jaclyn Hilf is the headliner in the backcourt, after starting 21 games as a sophomore. She averaged 9.5 points and led the team in assists (64) and three-pointers (37). Senior Laura Krieger saw time in 24 games, averaging 5.0 points and knocking down 25 treys. Soph Alli Rosati had a solid rookie season, chipping in 7.0 points and 4.9 rebounds, while fellow soph Kristy George and Jen Sroba will also see time. Ursinus struggled with the injury bug last season, but the experience gained by the younger players will pay dividends in 2010. The backcourt is set with the return of sophomore Jaclyn Hilf (pictured, right) and junior Laura Krieger. Hilf started all 25 games as a rookie, averaging 6.8 points and leading the team with a 79.6 free throw percentage. She handed out 66 assists and knocked down 27 triples. Krieger chipped in 4.8 points

and 2.7 rebounds. Senior Lauren White will also compete for time as will freshmen Kristy George and Chrissy Taylor.

The Bears are 24-9 at Helfferich Hall over the last three seasons and will need to continue to its close-game success (4-1 in games decided by 0-5 points last season) for a return to the five-team Conference end-of-season party.

Washington Shorewomen First Year of Basketball: 1993-94

All-Time Record: 177-216

Four starters are back for coach Megan Duran as the Shorewomen look to turn the page on this decade and secure their first winning season since 1999. Senior guard Jane O’Donnell (pictured, top) is one of three returnees that averaged in double figures in points last season. She led the team in scoring (13.1) and three-point goals (45). Soph Meghan Tait contributed 10.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest, while handing out 69 assists and knocking down 25 treys. Senior Jessica Jamrogowicz (pictured, bottom) is the floor general. She led the Conference in assists (155) last winter while adding 6.4 points per game. Soph Sally O’Donnell will play the wing. She joined the squad mid-semester and averaged 10.1 points and knocked down 31 threes. Senior Julie Sherwood started 21 games up front, averaging 3.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per outing, while junior Nicole Wojtusik chipped in 4.2 points and 3.9 rebounds. Freshmen Jenny Lee and Erin Kile will also contend for time. Washington started 8-1 last season, before stumbling down the stretch with three wins in its final 16 games. Duran hopes her charges show more consistency and her Shorewomen “party like it’s 1999.”
