PUSH YOUR GAME TO THE NEXT LEVEL

The Babolat Play connected racket gives your access to a lot of information: power, impact locator, type and number of stokes (forehand, backhand, serve, overhand smash and many more).

The International Tennis Federation just approved the Babolat Play for use in tournaments, so players will be able to gather data on their official matches as well as their training sessions. Naturally, there's also a social aspect that lets you compare your scores to other players.

MEASURE MUSCLE ACTIVITYA fitness device enabling you to optimize training, stay motivated, and see instant results. AIM measures fat percentage and muscle quality (MQ) of individual muscle groups, as well as your whole body. It’s the first-ever device to qualify your muscle fitness.

Aim evaluates how current flows through individual muscle groups to measure their quality and fat percentage. It uses proprietary sensors, collecting thousands of data points, to give you precise results.

WEARABLE FITNESS COACH

By studying your habits, the band's Go-Zone feature will tell you when it's most ideal for you to work out. The concept of a device that knows you better than you do may sound a bit freaky, but that's the reason why you'd want a fitness tracker in the first place - collect big data about yourself, analyze them to better understand how your body works, and in turn help you make better decisions in relation to work and rest.

Most fitness trackers today will tell you how many steps you've taken, estimate calories burned, and with some intervention from you, track your sleeping patterns. One step above the rest, the JayBird Reign not only tracks physical activity, but is supposedly smart enough to differentiate when you're walking, running, cycling or swimming. The latter is something you don't see often in fitness bands, and could be a feature that appeals to the triathlete market.

PET ACTIVITY TRACKER

Petbit tracks the daily activity of a pet and tells its owners whether or not their pet needs to be more active. Petbit users can set a daily goal of Pet-Points. Pet-Points are calculated by taking into account steps, movements, playtime and additional information provided by the sensors. Aside from a motion detection sensor, Petbit also uses an accelerometer, a temperature sensor and a brightness sensor to monitor the pet’s behavior. Through an integrated high resolution display, users can easily see the collected Pet-Points for the day and check the progress towards the daily goal.

LG WEB OS USER INTERFACE

The new LG Web OS represents the first truly original approach to interaction design on the Smart TV platform. A new friendly, simple UI was introduced in Web OS. The friendly part comes from the great Beanbird illustrated character and animations that helps you through configuring your TV and understanding what to do next. The apps are custom designed for this interface with a flat design scheme. The simple part comes from the UI itself. With a remote that uses an arrow pointer to help users navigate content and a fresh approach to UX, this could be the OS that sets the standard.

WE ARE THE INPUT DEVICE

HAL is the revolutionary new TV remote and multimedia streaming device that uses voice control and hand gesture control technologies to change the way you interact with technology. It is a hands free remote, TV set box, personal assistant, and phone over a TV device that utilizes proprietary voice and gesture control technologies. Meet the future of remote controls. HAL's touch-free motion control technology puts you in charge. Use your voice or simple hand gestures to change channels, stream movies, record your favorite shows or browse the Internet.

EYETECH TRACKING SYSTEM

Eye-tracking is a technology that allows users to interact with a digital device using only their eyes. The technology monitors eye movements and is powered by how and where you look at a screen. The AEye technology consists of a compact camera board which contains its own internal processor using the Xilinx Zynq System on Chip (SoC), combined with the world’s most robust eye tracking algorithm. The Aeye hardware is suitable for computer displays, TVs, laptops, and other devices appropriate for this form factor. For more challenging form factors (e.g. smart phones) the algorithm can be licensed and run on the internal hardware.

VOICE ACTIVATED TVS WITH FACE RECOGNITION

Panasonic is to launch a new set of smart TVs designed to bring a highly personalized TV viewing experience using voice and face recognition. The 'life+ displays' are set to "redefine what a 21st-century TV should be" by bringing information unique to whoever is watching. This is done via a Kinect-style facial recognition system that will populate an 'info bar' at the bottom of the screen for viewers. The company explained that the move wouldn't compromise image quality and that it would be delivering plasma-level picture via LED displays.

FORD SOLAR ENERGYCONCEPT CARSay "solar-powered concept car," and the mind immediately conjures a picture of a squat vehicle with long, articulating panels and no practicality -- the ultimate dorkmobile. That's why Ford's C-MAX concept is incredibly refreshing: It's a solar car you'd actually want to drive. Given its logically placed an unobtrusive rooftop panels and the claim that the sun could fuel 75% of its trips, it makes you wonder why every car isn't solar powered.

YAHOO’S DIGITAL MEDIA STRATEGY MAKES ADS LOOK MORE ANALOG

With the launch of two new digital magazines: Yahoo Food and Yahoo Tech, the company has put stakes in the ground regarding the design and placement of ad content – losing banner ads in favor of a more contextual approach that feels more like a print ad.

Page 42: CES Tech 2014: Opportunities & Challenges

©2013 Critical Mass, Inc. All Rights Reserved |42

WHILE THE FUTURE OF THE DIGITAL MAGAZINE IS STILL UNCLEAR, ONE THING THAT IS CERTAIN IS THAT THE MANNER IN WHICH DIGITAL ADS ARE DESIGNED AND SERVED WILL CONTINUE TO EVOLVE TOWARDS A PLACE THAT FEELS MORE INTEGRATED AND NATURAL WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE CONTENT THEY INTERRUPT.
