What made you decide to start a lawn service company? From early on I always had an interest in lawn and landscape. In fact I began earning money mowing lawns when I was just 9 years old. Wanting to advance my education within the industry I graduated from Pennsylvania State University earning a degree in Turf Grass Management. Several years later I was approached by the owner of Keystone Lawn Company, Inc (the exact company which I completed my college internship) to buy the company. Of course there was no question this was exactly what I was meant to do. That was 11 years ago and I have not looked back since.

What types of services do you provide? Due to customer demand Keystone Lawn Company, Inc. is always expanding services. Services currently offered but not limited to include: Lawn Mowing, Lawn Care, Landscaping, Fertilization & Weed Control, Landscape Design & Installation, Power Washing, Tree & Shrub Pruning, Edging & Mulching, Specialized Tree & Shrub Care, Patio Design & Installation , Snow Removal, Grading & Seeing, Spring & Fall Clean up

Do you do just residential work? Keystone Lawn Company, Inc handles residential, commercial, and government work as well as maintain many of the HOA communities right here in Mount Joy. A majority of our residential work does originate from our outstanding commercial work. Customer referral is our main source of advertising.

Do you provide any, what you consider, specialty services? Keystone Lawn Company, Inc does offer specialty work such as patio and landscape design. Our on staff designer meets one on one with the homeowner to discuss and offer expert advice. We also walk the customer step by step through the township approval process many times submitting the paperwork on their behalf to expedite the process seamlessly. However specialty services do not stop there. Keystone Lawn Company, Inc was approached by a customer requesting one of her dead shrubs be spray painted. This shrub was part of a 50 foot hedge that she wanted to maintain for the rest of the season. When the time was optimal for planting the dead shrub was removed and replaced. This may not have been the best solution to the problem but was what the customer demanded.

Our long work history and proven track record of quality work as well as our safety is what makes Keystone Lawn Company, Inc. stand ahead of the rest.

To finish out the year, we’ll be talking about things that will help us all build our BRAIN power! Brain Booster #1 - Omega-3 fatty acids. The Lesson: You know that DHA omega-3 fatty acid is good for the brain, but do you know why? Groundbreaking research from Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore reveals that a critical transporter protein, Mfsd2a, carries the dietary nutrient to the brain, which then turns over DHA faster than other fatty acids for functional development. That made it easier for scientists to determine the best way to add DHA into food, as published online in the journal Nature in May 2014. A Plus Action: Find naturally occurring omega-3 fatty acid in food sources such as wild salmon, or supplement with fish oil. (all info for next 9 days taken from Clean Eating Magazine, March 2015)

Brain Booster #2 - Vinegar. The Lesson: If you think it’s smart to stash your pantry with different types of vinegar, you’re right, but for more reasons than you might think. A new review article in the Journal of Food Science highlights how “vinegar consumption might improve cognitive function in humans”; scientists hypothesize that its bacteria promote growth of new neurons in the brain. A Plus Action: Make your own salad dressing with vinegar, water, herbs and olive oil.

Brain Booster #3 - Chocolate. The Lesson: Yes, it’s true that chocolate helps your brain, but not the kind that’s coating for processed foods. A new report from the University of California, San Diego shows that diets heavy in trans fats actually hurt your memory. The flavanols in raw cocoa, meanwhile, were recently shown to stave off the memory loss that can accompany aging. A Plus Action: Stick to a daily square of the purest dark chocolate you can find.

$If you’re a small-business owner, you’ve always got

a lot to do: marketing your products or services, hiring employees, paying your bills, coping with competition – the list goes one and on. But there’s one task you may be overlooking: establishing your own retirement plan. And that’s not something you want to ignore – because, one day, you may want to trade in the title of “business owner” for that of “retiree.”

Fortunately, when choosing a retirement plan, you’ve got some good choices. Although the various plans have different requirements and contribution limits, they all offer tax-deferred earnings, which means your money has the potential to grow faster than if it were placed in a vehicle on which you paid taxes every year.

Here are some of the most popular retirement plans for small-business owners:• Owner-only 401(k) — This plan, which is also known

as an individual or “solo” 401(k), is available to self-employed individuals and business owners with no full-time employees other than themselves or a spouse. You may even be able to choose a Roth option for your 401(k), As the owner, you can contribute to your plan as both an employer and an employee; your total contribution limit for 2015 is $53,000, or $59,000 if you are 50 or older.

• SEP IRA — If you have just a few employees or are self-employed with no employees, you may want to consider a SEP IRA. You’ll fund the plan with tax-deductible contributions, and you must cover all eligible employees. (Employees themselves cannot contribute.) You can contribute up to 25% of compensation, up to $53,000 annually. (Contributions for a self-employed individual are limited to 25% of compensation minus one-half of self-employment taxes.) And you can fund your SEP IRA with many different types of investments. Plus, you can establish a SEP IRA for 2015 until April 15, 2016.

• Defined benefit plan — Pension plans, also known as defined benefit plans, are still around — and you can

set one up for yourself if you are self-employed or own your own business. This plan has high contribution limits, which are determined by an actuarial calculation, and as is the case with other retirement plans, your contributions are typically tax-deductible.

• S IMPLE IRA — A SIMPLE IRA, as its name suggests, is easy to set up and maintain, and it can be a good plan if your business has fewer than 10 employees. Still, while a SIMPLE IRA may be advantageous for your employees, it’s less generous to you, as far as allowable contributions, than an owner-only 401(k), a SEP IRA or a defined benefit plan. For 2015, your annual contributions are generally limited to $12,500 or $15,500 if you’re 50 or older by the end of the year. You can also make a matching contribution of up to 3% of your compensation. A SIMPLE IRA must be set up between Jan. 1 and
