Annual Chamber Easter Egg Hunt “Egg”citing Event!

Tooele County Chamber of Commerce April 2010

Thousands of children in Tooele County, ages 2-11 participated in the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce/Mountain West Medical Center Annual Easter Egg Hunt. This annual event has been co-sponsored by Mountain West Medical Cen-ter and the Chamber of Com-merce for many years. This is a fun way to show the com-munity our combined com-mitment to Tooele County and our residents. Local business-es donated bicycles, gifts, can-dy and other prizes that were given away at the egg hunt. This event is totally funded by Chamber Members!

3

Despite the snowy weather, the annual event, where over 12,000 plastic eggs and candy bags were filled and ready for the children, was held on Sat-urday April 3rd at the Deseret Peak Complex located on Hwy 112 between Tooele and Grants-ville. The event would not have been possible without the many volunteers who helped organize and participate in the hunt. Thanks to the Tooele City Fire Department for the fire engine siren which started the event, the staff of the Deseret Peak Complex for preparation of the complex and the sound system, the Tooele County Royalty and

their advisor Cheryl Adams, Tooele High School FBLA and their advisor Shauna Peterson, Chamber Board members and Ambassadors! In addition to Mountain West Medical Center, this year’s sponsors included Wal-Mart Logistics (who do-nated the awesome bicycles), Mountain America Credit Union, Maceys, Birch Family Pharmacy, Tooele Floral, Les Schwab, Quality Automotive Group, Wireless Beehive, Big O Tires, Academy Mortgage, William Lintner Tax Services (has sponsored the Egg Hunt for many years), EG&G, Ro-ni’s Signs, Tooele County Children’s Justice Center, Clean Harbors, Tooele Flo-ral, Tooele Republican Party, Radio Shack, Most Don’t.org, All Types Plumbing, Miller Motorsports Park, Valley Mental Health, Gloria Kershaw-Scentsy Distribu-tor, Yeagle & Sons Construc-tion, QC Finance, Zions Bank, Buy It Again Books, Prudential Utah Real Estate-Tooele, Digidocs, Bob’s Ga-rage, Edward Jones Invest-ments-Tooele, JackRabbit Press, Tooele Boys and Girls Club, Volunteers of America, Tate Mortuary, Radio Shack, Tooele Dental Associates, Denny’s, Jumpin’ Joeys, Hol-iday Inn Express,Southridge Pediatric Dentistry, Always Perfect Photography and HeritageWest Credit Union.

Clerk’s InsiderWith the onset of spring, comes the wandering bug, and most of us want to travel. If your thinking of wandering out of the country, there are some things I’d like to make you aware of.

The U.S. Passport Agency has proposed new fees for the U.S. Passport Book, the U.S. Passport Card (cannot be used when flying) and other passport services. Some of the fee’s will increase as much as $35 per passport or card, making an adult passport $135, a child’s passport $105.

We haven’t been told when this increase will be imple-mented, but if you’re planning on purchasing a passport, sooner rather than later will save you some money to play with on your vacation. Passports take 6 weeks to process, unless expedited for another $60. You may then get them in 2 weeks. Passport pictures are available at the Clerk’s Office for $10. For passport forms and additional information, please go to the Clerk’s website at www.co.tooele.ut.us/clerk/passport.htm, or you’re welcome to call the Clerk’s Office at 435-843-3140.

She was nominated by the Kiwanis Club of Tooele, who meets at Sostanza each Tuesday. Marissa serves approximately 20 Kiwanis members each week. A few members of the club had this to say about Marissa: “Marissa knows that I am short on time, so she’s great about bringing me lunch and getting my bill to me in record time so I can get back to the office.” Marilyn Gillette “She works hard, remembers us, keeps us straight, and remembers what we like to drink. Always friendly!” Mike Fields “She does a great job for us each and every week. She always remembers what each of us likes to drink. Do the numbers, if a party of 15 or 20 came in to any restaurant it town, they would assign at least 2 waitresses to take orders, bring our food, refill water and drink, take your receipts and take your money, PLUS bring out cookies! She does a great job, I would love for her to know how much we really appreciate what she does each week.” Sandy Critchlow

“She is extremely professional and is always prompt. In today’s world service is sometimes lacking. She is a consummate pro and always willing to insure timely respectful service.” Steve Griffith “Marissa is always ready and prepared for her job. Her attention to Sostanza’s patrons and the habits of her regular clientele is exemplary. She lets us know that we’re appreciated as customers with her level of organization and speed of service. She always conducts herself with a high level of professionalism.” Shawn Milne “She remembers each week what I want to drink, and remembers and calls me by my name. This is excellent customer service!” Vicki Griffith “Marissa always greets us with a smile, remembers I like iced tea with lemon and no sweetener, and delivers our meals promptly and accurately. She works hard to make sure our time at Sostanza for lunch is processed thru quickly and ends with a friendly send off for the rest of our day. Thanks Marissa!” Kaleen Knight

Congratulations Marissa for going above and beyond your job descrip-tion and for providing Millpond Spa and Retreat customers and co-workers with great service! A total of $2750.00 in community grant money was given from the Walmart Foundation to the Boy Scouts for this day of service. old Tooele Clinic building located at 154 South Main Street, Tooele. Th e purchase was made with funds that were received from a sale of property that was originally donated over 40 years ago by LaVar Tate, one of the original Chamber founders. Renovation of the building will also be funded from monies received from the property sale. Because the Chamber is a non-profi t organization, we will be accepting donations and/or volunteer help to “clean up” the property and make it a show piece for Tooele City. Plans for the building include Chamber offi ces, meeting rooms, information and visitor reception area and additional offi ce spaces available for rent. Saving the old building from demolition was important to the Chamber board and director. It is essential to keep the Chamber offi ces easily accessible to visitors and residents and therefore, downtown Tooele City seemed to be the perfect spot to locate the new offi ces.

Use and care Tip by

Drying clothes more effectively Avoid kinking exhaust vent behind dryer. The shorter the better. •

Exhaust ducting should be of a metalized semi rigid/flexible material. •Do not use vinyl as it can be easily crushed. Vinyl will not withstand heat as well as metalized ducting.

Check your outside vent hood. Clean if necessary. It is not advisable to •use mesh wire or grates to cover the vent hood. This will definitely help keep rodents or birds out of your exhaust but can easily clog as some lint always makes it through the dryer’s lint screen. The best vent hood has a flapper that opens when the dryer is in use and closes when off. Verify proper operation of the flapper periodically.

Clean lint screen between loads and more frequently if drying material •with higher cotton content.

Do not overload dryer. Too many clothes will inhibit proper circulation •of heated air between and through the garments. On the other hand, too few clothes can create a similar problem by bunching and disallowing proper air flow through the clothes. Proper air flow dissipates the moisture from the clothes faster making for a faster dry time.

In winter months, dryers located in a heated area of the home will dry •more quickly than a non-heated utility room.

Drying multiple loads one after the other will reduce overall dry time by •utilizing heat retained by the dryer from previous loads.

Recheck pockets before putting clothes into dryer. Chewing gum may make it through the wash with little to no consequence but your luck will run out if it is put into the dryer. Gum, pencils, change, nails, needles, jewelry, etc. can damage clothing as well as damage your appliance (as a rule of thumb, do not lay loose change or other small articles on top of your appliances).

Free Educational Breakfast Meeting

Chamber members are in-vited to attend an educational breakfast meeting to be held on Tuesday, April 13th from 8am to 9am at the Tooele City Hall, 90 North Main. Our presenter will be Bill Brady, Senior Part-

ner M2 Results Brand-Based Marketing. The marketing industry abounds with firms that tout branding as their special offer-ing and as the panacea of busi-ness woes for companies both large and small. “Branding” has become the marketing buzz-word of the decade, diminishing its perceived value and inciting skepticism among many busi-ness leaders. Designed for leaders of small to medium-sized businesses, “10 Steps to Building Brand Value for Small Business” will discuss what branding really is and isn’t. Most importantly, the presenta-tion will share 10 pieces of prac-

tical advice attendees will be able to immediately begin im-plementing within their organi-zations. These 10 steps include:

Know your market.1. Know yourself.2. Differentiate.3. Define your core 4.essence. Understand the 5.benefits your brand offers. Stake a brand posi-6.tion. Create branded 7.experiences. Analyze your touch 8.points.

Articulate your 9.messaging. Train and protect.10.

“10 Steps” will also discuss brand development within the content of the current economic climate, helping business leaders under-stand how they can choose mar-keting tactics that provide maxi-mum ROI and improve their brand positions without spend-ing a lot of money. The presentation will last for 45 minutes, followed by 10-15 minutes of Q&A.No RSVP is required for this free event.

Miller Motorsports Park Pulling Out All the Stops forWorld Superbike Weekend

Tooele County Chamber of Commerce April 201010

SALT LAKE CITY (February 11, 2010) — This year’s visit to Utah by the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Champion-ship will be the biggest and best yet, officials from Miller Motorsports Park announced in a press conference today. The event, which will take place over Memorial Day Weekend, will include a major classic-rock concert, a down-town street party at The Gate-way outdoor mall, a stirring tribute to America’s military and a number of additional new features. Like last year, the Memorial Day Weekend activities will begin on Friday, May 28th on the steps of the State Capitol and will feature team riders, sponsors, and track and elected officials. It is anticipated that Governor Gary Herbert will be in attendance and officially commence the festival week-

end. The racers, on their race bikes, will then lead a parade of motorcycles, in which the mo-torcycle-riding public is invited to participate, to The Gateway, which will be closed to all but motorcycle traffic. The Gateway will be the site of a street party that will include live music, au-tograph sessions and stunt bike demonstrations to celebrate the weekend. Each brand of motor-cycle will have its own reserved parking area. Racing action will begin on Saturday, May 29, capped by a classic-rock concert at the track featuring Foreigner, Styx and Kansas (and a possible surprise addition to be named later), with fireworks at its conclusion. Rac-ing will continue on Sunday and Monday, with the feature races for the Superbike World Cham-pionship and Supersport World Championship on Monday. The support races will be the second

annual Larry H. Miller Super-bike Challenge, with events for both the GTU and GTO classes. Our nation’s military will be honored with a 2,010-flag Trib-ute Field in the track’s infield throughout the weekend. Other highlights will include demon-strations by the Lucas Oil Stunt Plane, stunt bike exhibitions, manufacturer displays and park-ing corrals, military flyovers and an expanded Vendor Village. Single-day tickets are now on sale for the event. All tickets will include paddock access, and sin-gle-day Saturday tickets will in-clude admission to the concert. Three-day discount ticket pack-ages are available for Grandstand and General Admission guests. This will be the biggest international sporting event in Utah since the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the beginning of a Memo-rial Day weekend tradition for families throughout Utah and the United States to enjoy.” “The 2010 event at Miller Mo-torsports Park promises to be the most exciting U.S. round ever in the history of World Superbike,” said Paolo Ciabatti, Director of the HANNspree FIM Superbike

I have worked at the Tooele County Board of Realtors since August of 2009. It is a great job

that I have grown to love. It is a busy offi ce, with performs many functions in behalf of the 140 members and 20+ affi li-ates. Th e people I work with are fantastic and I can honestly say I have not met anyone in the association that I don’t like. Th e Board of Realtors provides a vital service for the realtors in Tooele County. I admire the board of directors, the commit-tees and all who volunteer their services to serve their fellow members. I have a new found respect for the realtor profession and all that they must know and do to facilitate a sale of a home or property. It is rewarding to be a part of an association that plays a role in making Tooele County a great place to live. I was born and raised in Grantsville, attended Grants-ville High. We moved to Cali-fornia in 1989, raised a family and then we decided to come “home” aft er 20 years of be-ing away. My husband Jay and I have enjoyed getting back to our roots and being around family and friends. I enjoy the “country” life and have chick-ens, ducks and a spoiled york-ie. When I am not working at TCBR, I love to read, cook, gar-den, paint and help my husband in his custom children’s furni-ture & playhouse business. MANCAVETooele County Chamber of Commerce April 2010

Everyone knows a woman that has been to a Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, or a Tupper-ware party, but what about the men? Well now there is a par-ty for them; it’s called MAN-CAVE. Paul Bunting of Tooele is the rst salesman of the Minnesota-based company; ac-tually he is the only sales con-

sultant in the western United States. So what is this Man-Cave? First an individual de-cides to have a “MEATing” and invites their friends to attend. A ManCave advisor, which in this area would be Paul, comes to your “MEATing.” With him he brings his expertise and lots of free meat for grilling.

A “MEATing” can be a good reason to kick back and have a good time as men and friends. Part of Paul’s expertise includes being able to use the grill and being able to cook up some de-licious demonstrations, while showing you di erent grilling techniques. ManCave sells high quality products ranging from grilling tools and accessories, premium meats, wood chips and planks, grilling spices, rub and mari-nades, to poker products and home bar accessories. Paul has his own man cave in his back-yard, and hopes that other men will feel that they need to have a man cave of their own to host
