he Small Business Administration (SBA) is a U.S. government

agency that provides assistance and support to small businesses. Its 7(a) loan programs are specifically designed to help small businesses gain access to cred-it facilities. SBA supports commercial lenders like Banner Bank by providing a certain percentage of guarantees to be paid in the event that a credit facility (loan or line of credit) defaults.

Under the guaranty concept, commercial lenders make and administer the loans. The business applies to a lender for their financing. The lender decides if they will make the loan internally or if the application has some weaknesses that, in their opinion, will require an SBA guaranty if the loan is to be made. The guaranty that SBA provides is only available to the lender. It assures the lender that in the event the borrower does not repay their obligation and a payment default occurs, the Government will reimburse the lender for its loss, up to the percentage of SBA’s guaranty. Under this program, the borrower remains obligated for the full amount due. For example, if a lender has a $100,000 SBA 7(a) backed loan default with an 85% guarantee; they would apply for a guarantee payment in the amount of $85,000.

SBA offers what is known as the Express program part of the overall 7(a) lending program that offers lenders a more streamlined approach to access a guarantee. The lower 50% guarantee percentage of an SBA Express loan compares to a 75% - 85% guarantee offered on a non-Express SBA 7(a) loan. The regular non-Express 7(a) loan has increased documentation requirements

for both borrower and lender. Accordingly, they are more expensive and time consuming for the lender to originate and involve more of a time commitment and paperwork from the borrower. This has become an attractive program for borrowers and lenders alike, and was made permanent on December 8, 2004.

It is important to keep in mind that SBA support is not an exclusive requirement reserved for non qualified applicants. It is more accurate to state in many cases that the SBA’s guarantee programs enable small businesses to get access to MORE credit than is available conventionally. A plumbing contractor who needs a working capital line of credit, but has limited collateral avail-able and the owner and business have somewhat limited net worth. If the lender would approve a $50,000 line conventionally, they could offer the client a $100,000 SBA Express line with the same risk. Similarly, the SBA guarantee can mitigate high advance rates on equipment financing in many cases. This is especially helpful for specialized or technical equipment subject to rapid depreciation and obsolescence where a lender might normally limit advance rates to something like 70%. An SBA guarantee could enable 100% financing on the same equipment.

The SBA introduced a significant incentive to on it’s guarantee programs by waiving the borrower paid guaran-tee fee for all 7(a) loans up to $150,000

And there they are indeed! Located in the heart of Walla Walla, look up at the second story of the Seil building on Main Street and you’ll notice their window signage “Tangent Media Group.” But where did they get the name Tangent and what does it mean? Matt explains, “We were all so creative, we kept bouncing so many things off each other and going off on “tangents,” and then we’d all create these great end products together. We also utilize “tangent” objects in our productions rather than relying on computer generated objects.” Take a look at “Green Army Men” produced for a children’s After School Program or their clever way of shooting talking vegetables to encourage kids to eat better. Then you’ll better understand their meaning of “tangent.” Creativity. Diligence. Reliabil-ity. Professionalism. TANGENT!

When it comes to excellent f i l m /v i d e o / a u d i o produc-t i o n ,

marketing, web site creation, photography and graphic design, Tangent really does do it all!

Tangent’s inception began in 2010 with a simple dream of a bunch of amateur, Spike Jones-inspired filmmakers chatting it up in a kitchen about how they could make their filmmaking dreams come true in Walla Walla. They all agreed there was a need for a production company in town, but how to really pull it off? Tangent Media Group now successfully consists of two determined guys who have had the talent to pull it off…check out their website (www.tangentmediagroup.com) and you’ll be impressed! According to Owner/Operator Matt Bobbitt (originally from San Diego), he’s the creative one while Owner/Operator Daniel Guzman (originally from Albuquerque) is the idea guy. “Matt & I have always been on the same page. I seem to come up with a ton of ideas and Matt brings them all together and we then create the end product collectively.” Matt has a friend who works in the Hollywood film industry, so he says

The hope for the piano is that the hospital will be filled with the healing sounds of music to calm nerves and fill hearts. “Music has the ability to affect moods and impact stress levels. When our patients come into the hospital, it can at times feel stressful. Providing a calming environment has been shown to effect healing by decreasing stress, and we want to achieve that in our care environment,” says, Karen Kellar, vice president for patient care at WWGH.

T h e h o s p i t a l i s we l c o m i n g experienced pianists to partner with us to create an environment that restores peace, hope and health. WWGH would also like to extend an invitation for evening rec i ta l s to prov ide an opportunity for the community to enjoy the piano.

“Several patients have already commented on the music. Many have mentioned that the music is just another way they can see how WWGH cares about them and their experience — and we do!” says Kellar.

WWGH has spent s ignif icant resources in the past few years to improve the patient experience by remodeling many of the patient rooms and creating a more peaceful setting in which to receive care. The addition of the piano in the lobby is just one the most recent additions to the renovations.

All experienced and student pianists interested in contributing to the healing environment of WWGH’s hospital lobby may schedule a time to play by calling the WWGH Administration office at 509-527-8000 ext. 1000.

Walla Walla presents this thriller. Comfor tab ly ensconced in h i s charming Connecticut home, Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a “dry” spell which has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college—a thriller which Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway hit. Sidney’s plan, which he devises with his wife’s help, is to offer collaboration to the student, an idea which the younger man quickly accepts. Thereafter suspense mounts steadily as the plot begins to twist and turn until the final, startling moments of the play. For more information, please call 509-529-3683.

Visionary Member Of The MonthWine Valley Golf Club is entering its 7th season and it has certainly been a great first 6 years for the wide open links style golf course. Since opening in April of 2009 the course has received numerous awards and has also hosted many Amateur and Professional events.

To date Wine Valley has hosted either a Washington State or Pacific Northwest Amateur Golf Association event every year, including the Men’s and Women’s PNGA and the Washington State Amateur. This year Wine Valley will host the Pacific Northwest Golf Association Senior Amateur June 9-11. On the Pro side Wine Valley has been the host of the Northwest Open the last 4 years and will play host once again this year August 17-19.

The Valley View Pavilion is an exciting new addition to Wine Valley Golf Club. It is an indoor-outdoor facility that was designed as a venue great for weddings, class reunions, wine dinners and much more. It can accommodate up to 250 people under cover with plenty of room for overflow on a large grassy area complete with a beautiful fire pit. The venue includes tables and chairs for 250, sound system and bridal room.

Future plans include the addition of a full scale clubhouse and a par 3 short course. There has been a great blend of play from both locals and travelers from around the region and the future looks bright.

We may be small in size, but together we carry a huge economic stick.

someone who comes to us with a simple idea and create it into something even bigger and better than they expected.”

Matt adds, “Yes, our ultimate goal is to shoot, direct and produce films, but Walla Walla is our home and we have found our production and marketing skills are helping more people than we ever realized we would initially be able to do.”

I had the opportunity to work with these guys on several occasions documenting the Courtyard by Marriott Walla Walla Opening event to last minute editing assistance for the Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Banquet. Having high standards after working as a TV/video producer in Los Angeles myself, Matt and Daniel met my high expectations and they did whatever it took to help me get what I needed done. I’ve worked with some of the best in the business and they continue to impress me!

So, check out the Tangent Media Group (14 East Main, Suite 205 @ 509-629-1254) for your business needs. These guys have what it takes and their studio is awe inspiring. Give them a call for a free consultation, go for a tour to check out their studio and you’ll see why Tangent Media Group can help market your business. They’re the real deal!

They average working on 4-6 projects at a time with currently about 20 ongoing clients, some of which are other wineries where they are graphically designing wine labels for bottles to be sold. Yes! Tangent Media Group does it all!

Matt and Daniel both agree they love the challenges each and every new project brings to them. “It’s really cool to complete a project and have it come out right for the customer which gives us personal rewards in return,” says Matt. Daniel shakes his head in full agreement. “Yeah, it’s really cool to fix problems for people. It’s a great feeling to help
