Happy Easter & Happy Passover
First Outdoor Meeting of 2018 –
Tuesday, April 17th at BK in Farmingdale
&
So, what’s Snow with You and the Fourth Time is a Charm
Hi Everyone,
I want to wish everyone a Happy Easter and a Happy Passover. A lot of stuff is going on in April - club and Island wide, starting with the Vet
Dogs Cruise to Orient is on the 15th followed by St. Pat‘s Church Fundraiser in Smithtown on the 29 th. I will be at both so, saddle up and clean
it up!
Snow Again: You can only beat this up so many times. Four Nor‘easters within a few weeks span. I think we should invite Sgt. Preston from
the Yukon to talk at our next indoor meeting. Back to reality - it is Spring, and soon the weather will be in the fifties to sixties and all this white
stuff will be forgotten. Hey, I‘m the eternal optimist!
REMINDER
Garden City Easter Parade – Sunday, April 1, 2018
Saturday, April 14th - Miller’s Ale House/Commack/Cars & Guitars: This fundraiser will be for Hope for Warriors: Millers is located on
Route 454 in Commack. A bunch of us will be there. See the flyer in the extra pages. I‘m planning to be there.
Sunday, April 15th – America’s VetDog Cruise to Orient: Meeting at Airport Plaza in Farmingdale – 8 AM – second location is off exit 64
of the LIE at 10 AM, and then off to Riverhead for a P P stop, then east to Orient. Want more info, call me.
April Outdoor Meeting: Tuesday, April 17th @ Burger King in Farmingdale: Well, it‘s almost that time again. Burger King is located on
Route 110 in Farmingdale at the corner of Main Street. It‘s well lit, with ample parking. Remember, if we get rained out, it moves to the fol-
lowing Tuesday.
Sunday April 22nd – Street Rod @ Suffolk Community College: Hours are 8 AM to 4 PM, and the show is on Wicks Road off the LIE
Sunday, April 29th - St Patrick’s School Fund Raiser in Smithtown: This is an annual get-together for the Kings Park Contingent. If you‘re
interested in parking with us, please contact me. We do leave early.
….A footnote to the above events: I will be attending all events except for April 1.
Siben & Siben Thunderbird Ford Show: Sunday, July 8, 2018: Just some quick facts for this year‘s show. We are thinking of adding an
extra class for modified birds. 1955 to 1986, and 1987 to 2005. We are fine tuning some of the Mustang classes, thanks to John Detorri from the
Mustang Club, Bob Marketta, and Paul Rosina, from LITC. Because of the support we get from the local Mustang Club we will in adding a Best
in Show Award for their club. …Most likely plaques again like last year. We try to keep the same awards program for at least two years. For
those who pre-register, you are guaranteed a T-Shirt with your size. If you get the hard copy you will get the flyer inserted into each month‘s
copy of Bird Talk, and if you are on line, you will get it Emailed to you with the newsletter. Our DJ will be our own Bob Markett AKA ―Mr.
Music‖, who has already made up his play list for the day. No Perry Como, Frank Sinatra or one of my favorites, Captain and Tennelle singing:
―Love will keep us together‖.
Note that on the show flyer, there is room to make a donation to: ―Building Homes for Heroes‖. What I have done, as I have done in the past,
is to register both my cars, and this year pay an extra $5.00 for each vehicle with $10.00 going to the charity.
…Show flyer is on page #9, and will stay there until show time.
Thunderbird Appreciation Day Update/Sunday, May 20, 2018: Our location will be the KeyFood Shopping Center in Kings Park, the same
place we held the event last year. We are still fine tuning many details, but hours will be 10 AM to 2 PM. Come and go as you like, with the
Professor‘s Dinner open till 3 PM, and Gino‘s Pizza, and the Chinese Take-Out, open all day. Across the street is Anderson‘s Deli, and by the
LIRR station you have the Rib place, and Mexican food. We are trying to make this a special day, and both clubs are working together to ac-
complish this. Could be a pizza day, with both clubs sharing expenses.

Breakfast with the Boss/Sunday, March 4th
@ the South Bay Diner: A very nice turnout, considering I changed the date two times. Twelve
hardy souls attended our annual ―Breakfast with the Boss‖ at the South Bay Diner in Lindenhurst. Not in alphabetical order was: Dave Evans
with his ‗60 Bird. He has promised pictures and articles about his car, and fleet. …Bob Marketta (Mr. Music) with his ‗69 Mach 1, Kurt Langer
brought his sons Mustang and I think it was a ‗70, but not sure. …Ron Kohlmann without his Bird, because it is being redone and should be
ready for a show very soon. Ron has also promised an article and pictures of what‘s being done to it. John Bianco brought his ‗87 Turbo Coupe,
and finally got to meet John and shake hands. …Peter Engelmann, Peter Lange, and Ken Weinberg. …no toys for today. Art Fleming brought
his ‗97 Bird, and for me, I brought Steve McQueen‘s Bullitt. Last, but not the least, was Mr. and Mrs. Rosina - always a pleasure to see our VP,
and Felicia. We ate, we talked. It was a nice morning with no reported injuries.
Thunderbird Owners of New York/AKA TONY: Well, it finally happened that after a few months of not having a President, TONY now has
one! They not only have a new President, but a new VP. as well! Congrats to Stan Matusewicz, the new head guy, and Dennis Benfante, their
new VP. We wish them well in their new positions.
I LOVE A PARADE – WELL I USED TO
Kings Park St. Patty’s Day Parade/Saturday, March 3, 2018: An interesting turn of events for the day. …First time in eight years - no parade
for ―Big Bird‖ or any of the regular people. Why? Only the Shadow knows. For years they were up my you know what for cars, and this year
they lost my number. The Professor from the KP Diner wanted no part of the parade, and really did not want to be bothered. It‘s just me vent-
ing, and hope that someone is listening.
If You’re Interested: This year is the 50th anniversary of the movie ―Bullitt‖. I bring that to your attention because of my love for the movie,
and the car. Let us not forget that I have one of those amazing Bullitts, and any chance I get the floor to talk about my car, and the movie car, I
do so. Two vin‘s, #558 and #559 and both Mustangs played important parts in the movie. #559, which has been hidden for years , has just sur-
faced. Some interesting facts have come to be because of its emergence. McQueen tried to buy back #559 in 1977, but the owner would not sell
it to him, and then the car was put in a garage for years until now. Nobody knew where it was, and at the time the owner did not want any pub-
licity of the car‘s whereabouts. But when he died, his son inherited the car, and realized that it was important for the world to see and admire.
He contacted Ford, and the rest is history. The car is in its original condition and will not be restored or sold. From what I read, the famous ‘68
Mustang Bullitt, will be enclosed in a glass box and featured as part of ‗Cars at the Capital‘, an Historic Vehicle Association exhibition on the
National Mall in Washington, DC. The site, tucked between the U.S. Air and Space Museum and the National Gallery of Art, will be lit up at
night. The ―Bullitt‖ will be on display April 17th to the 23rd and then will continue on a world tour for all to see.
2018 Club Dues: If you have not paid your dues for 2018, this is your last issue.
Stay safe, warm and you‘re welcome…

Also – if you want to include Pete‘s comment on where to meet along the LIE if going to Carberry‘s vets cruise on
April 15th – you may want to include it in your newsletter to:
Some members travel the whole cruise distance starting at route 110 and Conklin St.
Others meet at exit 64 LIE (Rte 112) and join the cruise group as they pass by exit 64.
We meet at the office parking lot behind the 7/11 and Starbucks.
As the group gets near we get a cell phone call from Florence and Dave Dick as they approach exit 57.
We then proceed to the East bound shoulder of the exit 64 on ramp waiting to join in the cruise group.
They usually have a police escort with flashing lights that make them easy to spot as they come out on in the HOV lane.
The HOV lane ends at exit 64 and they just continue along in the left lane all the way to their next pit stop at the Riverhead Home Depot on
Rte 58.
The Riverhead Police Dept. assists the group making the left turn on 58 into the Home Depot parking lot.
This stop is like a car show in itself as many need a bathroom and coffee and group photo op with the trained dogs brought along.
Then on to Orient Pt or Southold shore for another photo op and then catered luncheon in Southold.

Thanks to our friends at VTCI for making us aware of this!!
Wixom, Mich – February 4, 2018 Owners of Ford’s Thunderbird from around the world will be
sharing their iconic cars with the public on “Thunderbird Appreciation Day” May 20th, 2018.
The three large Thunderbird clubs; Classic Thunderbird Club International (CTCI), Vintage
Thunderbird Club International (VTCI) and International Thunderbird Club (ITC) are encourag-
ing their members to take their Thunderbirds out, individually or in groups, to places for the
general-public to see, to learn more about and to just plain enjoy.
“2017 was the inaugural year for “Thunderbird Appreciation Day” and it was a great success!”
reports Chuck Thompson, CTCI president. “Owners world-wide took their cars to diners and
parks, museums and on road trips, anywhere folks don’t usually get to see these types of
cars.”
With over 4 million Thunderbirds produced by Ford Motor Company from 1955 to 2005, it is still
not common to see a Thunderbird on the road today, even later models. This is the reason that
the three Thunderbird clubs have agreed on May 20th as a day to share their Thunderbirds
with the world.
“As a Thunderbird owner for many years, you don’t have to tell me it is a unique car” adds
VTCI president Rod Wake. “This day gives Thunderbird owners worldwide the opportunity to
let others see and learn why Ford touted these cars as “Unique In All the World!””.
For a vehicle that has been out of production for over a decade, their presence is still felt
worldwide. Thunderbird owners can be found in all over North and South America as well as
Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and Europe.
“Many of our club members were excited for Thunderbird Appreciation Day last year and I think
the number of members taking their Thunderbirds out will only increase this year!”, said ITC
president Gerard Bartarsavich. “Members were posting pictures and writing about their experi-
ences for days on social media!”
For more details go to the VTCI website or the VTCI’s Facebook page. Thunderbird owners
are asked to share pictures and stories that occur during Thunderbird Appreciation Day on the
club’s Facebook page.

GROUP LIFT PURCHASE Is anyone interested in buying a 4-post lift for their garage? I am refurbishing my garage, and have done some research on lifts. I have settled on the Backyard Buddy 7,000lb.
Standard Lift. BYB can store 2 cars in the space of one, requiring just 9' wide, 16' long, 9' ceiling height, and a 120V outlet to store one car above another car, where the lower car is
60" at its highest point or less (e.g. my 1970 Boss 302 on top of my 2013 Boss 302, for exam-ple). The lift is made in Warren, OH, has the best construction & lift locking system in my
opinion, offers jacks, drip pans, and wheels for movement, and offers the best warranty I can find. Go to their website & see for yourself www.backyardbuddy.com. It is also probably the
most expensive 4-post lift at $4,595. But I want one! I would like to assemble a group of 10 or more car guys living here on Long Island who would
like to buy this lift this summer. Then I intend to take the order to the All Ford Nationals (June 2-4), where Backyard Buddy will have a booth. My theory is in addition to the $300 -
400 show special, I can negotiate a volume price delivered to one "area". By negotiating a group purchase discount added to the reduced freight and the show special, I am going to try
to knock $ 500 - 1,000 off the standard retail price of the lift.
Please realize (1) You will still have to pay someone to install the lift at your home ($500 -
1,000), (2) You will have to modify your garage door tracks to clear the lift (~$200), (3) There is no guarantee of the final price; I can only try to get the $1,000 discount I seek. But
10 units should get us some discount; 20+ units will entice the manufacture to give a sub-stantial discount. As an additional incentive, I would invite the Backyard Buddy Marketing
team to come to Long Island and talk to / interview those who participated for their advertis-ing testimonials.
Please contact me by phone or email (below) with any questions, giving me your name, your
email address, phone, and address as confirmation you are willing to spend the necessary funds in June-July. Thank you!
