Bund Testing & Maintenance

PROFESSIONAL TESTING SERVICEENSURES SITE COMPLIANCEStorage products for storing fuel, oil and chemicals oftenpose the greatest environmental and spillage risk on site.All spill retention facilities used to store pollutant orhazardous substances are required to meet certainstandards which will prove their efficacy in relation toenvironmental protection.

Testing is required for above ground tank bunds, effluenttanks, civil bunds, pipelines and pre fabricated steel andplastic bunds and hazardous materials stores.

BUND REQUIREMENTSA Bund must be able to retainat least 25% of the totalvolume or 110% of the largestvolume likely to be stored,whichever is greater. It mustalso be impervious to thestored liquids in the tank andto water, as this is the testmedium used.

Oil Guard is an intelligent pump system which pumps onlyrainwater from your bund. The system detects oil and will notpump the oil from the bund at any time.

Bunds must be kept clear of rainwater to ensure compliancewith the 110% rule in case of tank failure.

For storage of large quantities of Drums/IBC’s/Pallets andas an alternative to using a number of ChemstoreMultidrum Storage Units, we also supply and install BundedWarehouse Systems.

The Bunded Warehouse System comprises Bunded StorageModules which are pre fabricated at our factory anddelivered to site. These Bunded Storage modules which formthe structure of the warehouse are anchored to a concretebase and the roof, end walls and access doors are fixed inposition to complete the warehouse. All Chemstorestructures are designed in accordance with the followingdesign codes:- BS 5950 part 1, BS 6399 parts 1,2,3.

Designed to heat 205 litre drums or smaller steel vessels.Thermosafe is an alternative to multi-drum ovens and thesolution to a host of process heating problems, even in hazardous areas.

Thermosafe is a single induction coil, wholly encapsulated in a cylinder made from a glass reinforced resin specificallydeveloped for chemical plant. The cylinder is simply placed over the drum. Contact is not required.

The coil is connected to a single phase AC mains supply andgenerates heat directly and uniformly in the drum wall. Energytransfer is by alternating magnetic field. As there are no hot elements, the heater remains substantially cooler than the drum being heated.

• Maintenance Free GRP construction, no heating elements or moving parts

• Lightweight - 50kgs, can easily be lowered over drum.Lifting/handling equipment can be fixed to flanges.

• Typical heating times: 15ºC per hour for viscous organic liquid.

The Gasvault range of cylinder storageunits is specifically designed to provide asafe, ergonomic range of storage units forgas cylinder products. The Gasvault rangeaddresses the following issues which needattention when storing Gas Cylinders.

GUIDANCE FOR GAS CYLINDER STORAGE

1. All cylinders should be stored upright inrows 2-3 deep and secured to preventthem falling.

2. Some degree of weather protectionshould be provided for fittings.

3. Adequate ventilation should be providedto prevent accumulation of harmfulgases.

4 Cylinders should be stored away fromsources of heat and ignition.

5 Non compatible gases should besegregated. Oxygen should be stored a minimum of 3 m from fuelgases or they should be separated by an firewall. LPGcylinders in excess of 50 kg total capacityshould not be stored within 3 m of anycompressed gas cylinders.

6. Empty cylinders should be stored awayfrom full cylinders.

ANTI STATIC GROUNDINGWhen storing and decanting flammable liquids, precautionsshould be taken to prevent vapours being ignited by thedischarge of static electricity. All Firevault flammablematerials stores are fitted with a full length copper groundingrail, which is connected toearth. When transferringflammable liquids betweencontainers, grounding cablesmust be attached to thedrums/containers and to thegrounding rails.
