EXPLANATORY NOTES

This semi-annual Industry Performance Report on chickenpresents the industry situation in terms of inventory by type of chickenand age classification; volume of production; and monthly averageprices at farmgate, wholesale and retail levels.

This is the first issue of the semi-annual Industry PerformanceReport. The Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) intends to releasethis report every 15 thof September to cover January to June data ofthe current year.

The Livestock and Poultry data system of the Bureau ofAgricultural Statistics (BAS) is supported by two (2) major surveysnamely:

1) The Backyard Livestock and Poultry Survey (BLPS) coversone (1) replicate sample of the Palay and Corn Production

Survey (PCPS) consisting of 9,700 sample households in 673sample barangays nationwide; and,

2) The Commercial Livestock and Poultry Survey (CLPS)covering about 579 sample layer farms and 857 broilercommercial farms and contract growers. Commercial poultryfarms are those farms with a population of at least 1,000broilers, 500 layers or a combination of 100 broilers and 100layers.

Both surveys for chicken are simultaneously conducted everyquarter in all provinces.

Another survey is the Survey of Abattoirs and Dressing Plants(SADP) which covers around 105 accredited dressing plants andLocally Registered Meat Establishments (LRME) nationwide and isundertaken in coordination with the National Meat Inspection Service(NMIS).
