Agricultural Production Chilton County ranked first in the state in fruit farming. It contributed 14.3 percent of the county’s total agricultural and forestry production, making it the largest agricultural commodity. Cattle was the second largest agricultural commodity, contributing 5.7 percent of the county’s total agricultural and forestry production. The third largest was greenhouse, nursery, and floriculture production, which contributed 3.7 percent of the county’s total. Forestry ProductionTimberland accounted for 70.6 percent of the surface land area of Chilton County. Total forestry production contributed 46.3 percent of the county’s total agricultural and forestry production.

Overall Contributions to Chilton CountyChilton County’s agricultural, forestry, and related industries generated 4,080 full- and part-time jobs, representing 33.0 percent of the county’s total workforce (12,371 jobs).

The total impact of agriculture, forestry, and related industries was $385.5 million, which was 29.6 percent of the county’s total economic activity ($1.3 billion). The indirect business taxes impact was $15.5 million, 27.1 percent of the county’s total indirect business taxes.
