CCH embarked on an exercise to increase its visibility and

enhance access within the hospital premises, with the award winning facility set to upgrade its signage and car park.

The new Chief Executive Officer Dr Enock Mayida, after taking a familiarization tour of the hospital, identified inadequate signage within the hospital as a source of frustration for clients.

“When I came to this hospital, I noted that the signage needsed upgrading.

"It was difficult for patients and

visitors to locate where they want to go."

We also needed visible signage outside the hospital at places like Guzha Township (Chikwanha) to show directions for people coming from Harare,” said Dr Mayida.

The Public Relations Office also received reports that there was no visible signage.

The signage was placed along the Seke road, Chikwanha, Zengeza turn off and along the Chitungwiza road from the Simon Mazorodze (Mbudzi) roundabout giving directions for people coming outside Chitungwiza so that they don’t get lost.

At the main gate there is new signage. Just as one enters the gate when driving there is a unique billboard which is visible and clear.

Sheds for parking cars for staff and directors were upgraded and there are clear road markings giving the place a new look.

All members of staff have new identity name tags so that they are known by their clients. This move is meant to increase accountability.

Chitungwza Central Hospital (CCH bids farewell to Doctor Edward Tadros from Sudan who has retired from CCH, he worked as a consultant.

He was qualified as an obstetrician and Gynecologist, before going CCH he worked at Musume hospital in Mberengwa and Harare Central Hospital.

He began to work at CCH in 1995 and was promoted to clinical director post in 2006. Dr Tadros worked as a Clinical Director for 8 years.

He mainly worked at the maternity department, Out Patients department and ward 1. He was a very sociable person who was able to socialize with everyone despite their age differences.

Doctor Tadros was one of the best and skilled worker CCH has ever had. A fatherly figure he was.

We wish him happy retirement and as he has been an example to all the staff due to his dedication to his work.

CCH STAFF DONATES BLOOD TO NBSZ

CCH student nurses donating blood

Gracious Tayengwa

World-widerecognized superstars and billionaires can own most

expensive and most wanted items but there is one essential need that they will fall short of in desperate times i.e. blood.

Blood donors are life savers who are recruited on the basis of love to save a soul or to save a brother.

They have nothing much to gain in so doing but the ability to feel one’s loss and the desire to save life is the most dominant push factor for the majority of blood donors.

The uniqueness of this liquid is such that there is no other source from where people can get blood to supplement for their lost blood but from fellow human bodies. Blood cannot be manufactured like drugs.

Chitungwiza Central Hospital staff members have revealed the spirit behind the good care they give to patients.

National Blood Services Zimbabwe (NBSZ) collected blood of different blood groups from CCH on the 8th of January. The relationship between CCH and the National Blood of Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) has grown over the years and it has become tradition for the hospital to encourage its staff to donate blood for more than six times.

Recently, the NBSZ team visited CCH to collect blood from donors who included doctors, nurses, student nurses, members of staff and the local community. Every year the NBSZ team visits the hospital once or twice in their regular exercise to ensure that the national blood banks do not run dry.

NBSZ’s head of Planning and

Recruitment, Mr Tichaona Saira said the institution always went out to collect blood at CCH during school holidays when their stocks would be low. He said Blood Group O was most difficult to get. Mr Saira added that at CCH most donors are group O.

This activity was running under the theme, “A pint for my patient”, as student nurses, nurse aids doctors other anti-nursing staff and community members donated blood.

People with high blood demands are women with cervical cancer, after giving birth, after having abortions; anyone who loses a lot of blood due to accidents, sickle cell anaemia and other blood conditions.

Unceasing availability of blood is necessitated by continuous donations thereby NBSZ targets young donors with less sexual activities.

Another target for NBSZ is a group of people with blood group O positive, who are universal donors with the ability to donate for every blood group though unfortunately not universal blood recipients.

Receiving blood from the wrong ABO group is said to be life threatening

such that if anyone with blood group B is given group A blood their anti A antibodies will fight group A cells and vice versa.

Blood group O is a universal donor which means that can donate blood to all groups but the they cannot get blood from other groups.

National blood Services Zimbabwe spokesperson made a plea to potential blood donors to donate blood to save lives

“We urge our fellow Zimbabweans to step forward and save a life for tomorrow remains uncertain”, he says.

NBSZ and CCH have mutual relations in their life saving business where NBSZ has the recognized national blood of Zimbabwe.

NBSZ is a non-profit organization specializing in the collection of blood from donors for the benefit of the national blood bank which services all health institutions in Zimbabwe.

The NBSZ blood slogan is: “Be there for someone else. Give Blood. Share life.”
