See Optional Accessories tables.

Approvals — Units have been tested in the Lennox Research Laboratoryenvironmental test room and rated according to Department of Energy(DOE) test procedures and in accordance with ARI Standard 210/240-94.In addition, units are tested and listed by Underwriter’s Laboratoriesand have been sound rated in the Lennox reverberant sound test roomin accordance with test conditions included in ARI Standard 270-95.DOE covered products are rated under 65,000 Btuh (19.0 kW) with singlephase power input. Units and components within are bonded forgrounding to meet safety standards for servicing required by U.L.,C.S.A., NEC and CEC. Optional electric heaters are U.L. and C.S.A. listedand rated and tested according to DOE test procedures and FederalTrade Commission (FTC) labeling regulations. Blower data is from unittests conducted in the Lennox Laboratory air test chamber.

Equipment Warranty — The compressor has a limited warranty fora full ten years. All other covered components have a limited warran-ty for five years. Refer to Lennox Equipment Limited Warranty fur-nished with the equipment for details.

Copeland Compliant Scroll Compressor — High efficiency com-pressor features durability, steady uniform suction flow, constant dis-charge flow, high volumetric efficiency, quiet operation and the abil-ity to start under any system load. Use of the scroll compressoreliminates the need for accumulator, start capacitor and start relay. The compliant scroll type compressor is a simple compression con-cept design consisting of two involute spiral coils matched togetherto create a series of crescent-shaped gas pockets betweenthem. During compression, onescroll remains stationary whilethe other is allowed to orbit, notrotate, around the fixed one. Asthis motion occurs, gas is drawninto the outer pocket sealing offthe open passage. As the spiralmovement continues, the pocketsbetween the scrolls are pushed tothe center of the scrolls while si-multaneously being reduced in vol-ume. When the pocket reaches thecenter, the gas is now at high pres-sure and is forced out of a port lo-cated in the center of the fixedscroll. During compression, severalpockets are being compressed si-multaneously resulting in a smoothnearly continuous compressioncycle. Continuous flank contact, maintained by centrifugal force, minimizes gas leakage and maximizes efficiency. The scroll compressoris tolerant to the effects of liquid slugging and contaminants. Shouldthis occur, the scrolls separate and allow the liquid or contaminants tobe worked to the center and discharged. Low gas pulses during com-pression minimize operational sound level. Motor is inherently pro-tected from excessive current and temperature. Compressor has a bel-ly–band type crankcase heater. Compressor is installed on resilientrubber mounts, assuring vibration free operation.

Cabinet — Cabinet is constructed of heavy gauge galvanized steel andcompletely insulated with thick fiberglass insulation. Prepainted steelcabinets have an outside paint finish of mildly textured enamel with aprimer coat on all unpainted inside surfaces. Large removable cabinetpanels allow service access. Supply and return air openings haveflanges for ease of duct connection. Control box with factory installedcontrols is conveniently located for service access. Electrical inlets arefurnished for entry into the cabinet. Indoor coil drain pan is constructedof corrosion resistant painted galvanized steel and is equipped with agalvanized pipe (mpt) drain outlet. Coil guards are furnished on allmodels. Lifting brackets are factory installed on CHP20R models andmay be ordered extra for CHP20H models.

Refrigeration System — Complete factory sealed refrigeration systemconsists of: compressor, outdoor coil and fan, indoor coil and blower, high pressure switch (manual reset), reversing valve, suction and liquidline service gauge ports and full operating charge of refrigerant.CHP20R–511 & –651 models have a check and expansion valve andthermometer well.

Defrost Control — A solid state clock timer defrost control providesa defrost cycle, if needed, every 30 or 60 or 90 minutes (adjustable)of compressor ”on” time at outdoor temperature below 45F. A ther-mostat mounted on the outdoor coil determines when the defrostcycle is required and also when to terminate a cycle.

Outdoor Coil Fan — Direct drive fan draws air through the outdoorcoil and discharges it vertically, up and away from the building. Fanorifice design and low fan tip speed keeps operating sound level ata minimum. Uniform air movement through the coil results in highrefrigerant cooling capacity. Permanently lubricated, inherently pro-tected, PSC motor is totally enclosed for maximum protection fromrain, dust and corrosion. All models are equipped with a corrosion re-sistant PVC coated steel wire fan guard.

Copper Tube/Enhanced Fin Indoor and Outdoor Coils — Extra largesurface area and circuiting of Lennox designed coils provide maxi-mum cooling efficiency, excellent heat transfer and low air resis-tance. Coils are constructed of precisely spaced ripple-edged alumi-num fins fitted to durable copper tubes. Fins are equipped withcollars that grip tubing for maximum contact area. Lanced fins pro-vide maximum exposure of fin surface to air stream. Flared shouldertubing connections and silver soldering provide tight, leakproofjoints. Long life copper tubing is easy to field service. Coil is thor-oughly factory tested under high pressure to insure leakproofconstruction. Indoor coils feature rifled copper tubing for superior re-frigerant flow resulting in maximum heat transfer.

Blower — Units are equipped with direct drive centrifugal blower pre-cisely matched to the unit for maximum efficiency and minimumnoise level. Blower is statically and dynamically balanced as an as-sembly before being installed in the unit. Multiple speed permanentsplit capacitor (PSC) motor is resiliently mounted. A choice of blowerspeeds is available, see blower performance tables. Change in blow-er speed is easily accomplished by a simple field change in wiring.

Air Filters (Not Furnished) — Filters for basic unit only applicationsmust be provided by the installer for installation in the return air sys-tem exterior to the unit cabinet. Optional DF16 Down-Flow FilterAdaptor is available for CHP20R models.

OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES (Must Be Ordered Extra)

For cases where operation of the unit in thecooling mode is required at low ambients, a Low Ambient Control KitLB-57113BM (27J00) (R models only) or LB–57113BF (71H34) (H mod-els only) can be added in the field, enabling it to operate properlydown to 30F (–1C).

Timed-Off Control (Optional) — Timed-off control LB-50709BA(32F21) is available for field installation. Prevents compressor short-cycling and also allows time for suction and discharge pressure toequalize, permitting the compressor to start in an unloaded condi-tion. Automatic reset control provides a time delay between com-pressor shutoff and start-up.
