One of the great debates of l i fe is what is real ly meant by labels on food these days that say things l ike, ?Use or freeze by?.?, ?Sel l by??, "Best i f used by?.? There are great del iberations as to how to interpret such instructions. For example, i f we do not use the i tem by the date stated, should we throw i t away? If an i tem is sold by a certain date, how much longer after i t is sold unti l i t goes bad? If i t is best by a certain date does that mean that even though i t may not be as good, i t is alright to use i t indefini tely? Whatever the interpretation, what we do know for sure is that at some point the food wi l l spoi l . It is perishable. Like everything else that is al ive in our world. Everything ages,
deteriorates and eventual ly spoi ls or dies.
The perishable world we l ive in is often di fficult to accept. People go to great lengths to hide thei r true age. It is di ff icult to see our parents age or even to watch our own chi ldren grow up. We get impatient wi th i l lness and upset when things break. Even though l i fe is much more temporary than permanent, we often carry wi thin us a fantasy about the durabi l i ty of l i fe.
In the Gospel, Jesus tries to shake us out of the fantasy of l i fe?s imperishable nature by cal l ing himself ?l iving bread? that is not perishable (John 6:24-35). He wants us to feed on the food of his uncondi t ional love for us. So distracted are we in our quest to disprove l i fe?s perishabi l i ty, l ike the disciples, we want signs of this love. His words are not enough. We want proof. True love never has to prove i tself, i t is, as we say these days, what i t is.
Food that spoi ls takes the form of competing wi th others for God?s love, trying to figure out how we can get God to love us more and endless judgments about who is worthy of God?s love and who is not. The food that does not spoi l is the l iving bread of God?s uncondi t ional love for us. Jesus is not interested in proving himself to us nor does he want us to prove ourselves to him. He just wants us to know the di fference between food that wi l l spoi l and food that wi l l not.

What is RCIA and who is it f or ? The Ri te of Christ ian Ini t iat ion of Adults (RCIA) is a process whereby new members join the Cathol ic Church, designed speci fical ly for the fol lowing:
1. Adults who have never been baptized and who want to inqui re about the Cathol ic fai th. 2. Adults who have been baptized into another Christ ian tradi t ion (Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, etc.) who
want to inqui re about the Cathol ic fai th. 3. Baptized Cathol ic adults who have not completed the Sacraments of Fi rst Holy Communion and
Confi rmation and need more fai th formation. There is open enrol lment now. We wi l l be having registrat ion before and after al l Masses on Sundays in August. Uno de los grandes debates de la vida es lo que realmente signi fican las etiquetas de al imentos estos días que dicen cosas como: "Usa o congela a más tardar el día...", "Se debe Vender a más tardar el día...", Mejor si se usa a más tardar el día..." Hay grandes debates sobre cómo interpretar dichas instrucciones. ¿Por ejemplo, si no usamos el artículo para la fecha indicada, debemos nosotros t i rarlo? ¿Si un artículo se vende en una fecha determinada, cuánto t iempo más durara antes de echarse a perder? ¿Si esta mejor para cierta fecha signi fica que aunque puede no ser tan bueno, está bien usarlo indefinidamente? Sea cual sea la interpretación, lo que sí sabemos con
seguridad es que en algún momento los al imentos se echan a perder. Es perecedero. Como todo lo demás que está vivo en nuestro mundo. Todo envejece, se deteriora y finalmente se echa a perder o muere.
El mundo perecedero en el que vivimos es a menudo di fíci l de aceptar. La gente suele i rse a las grandes longi tudes para ocultar su verdadera edad. Es di fíci l ver a nuestros padres envejecer o incluso ver nuestros hi jos crecer. Nos impacientamos con las enfermedades y nos molestamos cuando las cosas se rompen.
A pesar de que la vida es mucho más temporal que permanente, a menudo l levamos dentro de nosotros una fantasía sobre la durabi l idad de la vida.
En el Evangel io, Jesús intenta sacudirnos para que salgamos de la fantasía de la naturaleza imperecedera de la vida por l lamarse a sí mismo "Pan de Vida" que no es perecedero (Juan 6:24-35). Él quiere que nos al imentemos de la comida de su amor incondicional para nosotros. Estamos tan distraídos en nuestra búsqueda para contradeci r la perecibi l idad de la vida, como los discípulos, queremos signos de este amor. Sus palabras no son suficientes. Queremos pruebas. El verdadero amor nunca t iene que probarse, es, como decimos en estos días, lo que es.
Los al imentos que se echan a perder toman la forma de competi r con otros por el amor de Dios, intentando averiguar cómo podemos conseguir que Dios nos ame más y un sin fin de juicios sobre quién es digno del amor de Dios y quien no es. Los al imentos que no se echan a perder es el pan de la vida del amor incondicional de Dios para nosotros. Jesús no está interesado en probarse a sí mismo a nosotros ni quiere que nosotros nos probemos a él. Él sólo quiere saber la di ferencia entre al imentos que se echan a perder y que no.

¿Qué es RICA y par a quién es? El Ri to de Iniciación Crist iana para Adultos (RICA) es el proceso en donde nuevos miembros se unen a la Iglesia Catól ica, diseñado específicamente para lo siguiente:
1. Adultos que nunca fueron bautizados o los que quieren saber más de la fe Catól ica. 2. Adultos que han sido bautizados en otra tradición crist iana (Lutheran, Methodist, Bautista, etc.) que
desean saber de la fe catól ica. 3. Adultos Catól icos bautizados que no han recibido Primera Comunión y Confi rmación y necesi tan más
formación de fe. Ya estamos aceptando registraciones, también estaremos registrando antes y después de todas las Misas los domingos durante agosto.
