Longing for a Break in this World Some days are hard. Some days are so full of stress and anxiety and fear and heartache that you long to get away. And perhaps you have done just that. Maybe you went to an all-inclusive resort in paradise where you lounged on the beach all day. Or maybe your choice was a cozy ski resort in the mountains where you shooshed up and down the slopes and sipped on hot chocolate as the sun set. Like any good vacation, it was probably a time filled with delicious food, beautiful sky and laughter. Vacations are suspended spans of time where stress is left behind. No bills to pay. No deadlines to meet. Only an opportunity to commune with God, nature and loved ones. But then the week ends. And as soon as you arrive back home you can feel it again. The things that need to be done. The concern about projects. The relational tensions. Back to a world where it seems as if Satan might be winning. But for a moment, you had a tiny taste of what could be. The Book of Revelation is an authentic taste of what will be. It is the promise that in the end God wins. Life may be hard now. Life may be unfair now. There may be challenges now. But in the end, God will demonstrate he is the Victor. And he will give us a life in Paradise. The Apostle John was given a vision of the New Jerusalem that comes down from heaven. It is an immense place. Some get caught up in the dimensions outlined in Scripture. But I believe the purpose we are told of the size of heaven is to give us the assurance that there is room for everyone. “All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13). The end will be much like the beginning. The God who shaped Eden out of chaos will take the chaos of our world and shape it into something new. A New Heaven and a New Earth. So call on his name and make your reservation. It’s all inclusive. Happy Mother's Day!! "Mother's Day is traditionally the day when children give something back to their mothers for all the spit they produce to wash dirty faces, all the old gum they held in their hands, all the noses they wiped and all the bloody knees they 'made well' with their kisses. Mothers have a capacity to love and cherish that is far beyond what all the other humans are capable. Hannah was an Old Testament mother who made a promise to God. She prayed a prayer and poured out the feelings of her heart. Hannah as it turns out is a prophetess. She is the first to mention the messiah as king. So the conception, birth and ministry of Samuel points us to the conception, birth and ministry Jesus. Hannah’s promise was that if God would give her a child she would literally give it back to Him! Would you give the child back? Could you give the child back? We are told that Elkanah and Hannah returned home to Ramah without Samuel and the boy became the Lord’s helper. He assisted Eli the priest at the tabernacle. Samuel wore priestly garments, we are told that each year Hannah made Samuel a new coat and gave it to him each time she visited at the annual sacrifice. Hannah made every effort possible to make sure her child was brought up in the presence of the Lord. What Mom wouldn’t want her child to be brought up in a Godly way? Within the character of a godly mom you’ll find the drive to ensure that her children are brought up, like Samuel, in the presence of the Lord. Moms strive to make sure their husbands and kids are in church, Sunday school, children’s church, youth group, and any other ministry that will strategically place them under the influence and in the presence of the Lord. Moms demonstrate godly examples of grace, love and tenderness that we really don’t see in many, or for some, any other places in life. Here is a story I found in an old WW2 documentary. “Solomon Rosenberg, his mother, father, wife, and their 2 sons were arrested and placed in a Nazi concentration camp. It was a labor camp and the rules were simple. "As long as you can do your work, you are permitted to live. When you become too weak to do your work, then you are exterminated.” Rosenberg watched his mother and father marched off to their deaths. He knew the next would be his youngest son, David, because David had always been a frail child. Every evening Rosenberg came back into the barracks after his hours of labor and searched for the faces of his family. When he found them they would huddle together, embrace one another and thank God for another day of life. One day Rosenberg came back and didn't see those familiar faces. He finally discovered his oldest son, Joshua, in a corner, huddled, weeping, and praying. He said, "Josh, tell me it's not true." Joshua turned & said, "It is true, poppa. Today David was not strong enough to do his work. So they came for him.” "But where is your mother?" asked Mr. Rosenberg. "Oh poppa," he said, "When they came for David, he was afraid and he cried. Momma said, 'There is nothing to be afraid of, David, so she took his hand and went with him." Mothers sacrifice so much for us! We appreciate all you do for us! If you haven’t heard, we want you to know that you are appreciated! Thank you for being a mom! Thank you for the sacrifice you give up for each of us!
