History Originated in modern day Israel and Palestine.

It developed out of Judaism, but Christiansbelieve that Jesus is their messiah.

Jesus' birth marks the beginning of the CommonEra, CE.

Jesus began to preach and developed thousandsof followers in First Century AD.

The Jewish people who believed Jesus was themessiah became Christians while the othersstayed Jewish.

There are so many aspects of Christian history, but some of the most important parts are theones written in the Bible. Here are the threearguably most important stories:

    Adam and Eve

God created Adam (the first male) and abeautiful garden for him to live in, calledEden. He created Adam to keep himcompany, and to look after the world. Hethen created animals, and brought themto Adam one by one. But Adam wasdifferent than all the other animals, noneof them was as capable of love as Adam.So He used Adams ribs to create the firstwoman, Eve. He told them to enjoy thegarden, but never eat the fruit from the

Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

One day a serpent (the devil in disguise)

came to Eden and told Eve that God didntwant them to eat from the tree becausethey would become His equal. Theysuccumbed to his evil temptation, eating

the fruit. Immediately they felt guilty, andthen they became unhappy and fearful ofGod. God was disappointed in them, andtold them they had to leave the garden of

Eden. "From now on you'll have to scratcha living from the soil. You'll need to makeclothes and grow food. Nothing will comeeasily -- not even childbirth. And one day,

    you will die."

    Birth of Jesus

A little over 2,000 years ago a womannamed Mary received a visit from an angelwho told her that she would be the motherof Jesus, Gods son. At first she was

scared, but her faith in God led her toknow it was what was right. Mary and herhusband-to-be lived in Nazareth, but theyhad to travel to Bethlehem in order toregister for the census. Once they arrived

all of the inns were full, so they had tostay in a stable where they kept animals. It was there that Jesus was born. Soonafter a group of angels visited some

shepherds and told them of the news.

They hurried to Bethlehem to visit Jesus,

and then spread the news of the birth. Alittle while later three wise men, calledmagi, saw the star that signaled the birthof a new king. They followed it, and gave

Jesus the gifts of gold, frankincense andmyrrh. But on the way there they stoppedin Judea, Herods kingdom in the areaaround Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Heasked them where Jesus was so that he

could worship him, but he was actuallyplanning to kill him. That night Joseph gota dream warning him of the danger, andhe fled with Mary and Jesus to Egypt.

They returned to Nazareth when Herod

    had died.

    The Last Supper

Jesus followers were called disciples, and hechose 12 to be his apostles, who would help himin preaching the teachings of Jesus. As they wentto Jerusalem for the Passover Feast, Jesus warned

his apostles that the rulers of Jerusalem didntlike him (because he had so many followers), andmight try to hurt him. The apostles, thinking

Jesus could not be harmed, didnt believe him.Jesus also predicted that one of his apostles

would betray him, much to the astonishment ofthe group. Both of those predictions proved true.On that Thursday they met, but one apostle,

Judas, was unusually silent. He had givenJerusalems rulers Jesus location in exchange for

money. Jesus knew of his betrayal, and Judassoon fled.

The feast went on, and Jesus gave the apostlesbread, saying eat this, for this is My body whichis broken for you. Then he gave them wine, and

said drink this, for this is My blood which is shedfor you and for many. He asked them to "do thisin remembrance of me." Soon thereafter theRomans came, arresting Jesus. After confirmingthat he was the Messiah they sentenced him to

death. Jesus was then taken to Pontius Pilate, where he was brutally beaten for 6 hours beforehis bitter death, upon which he cried out "MyGod, my God, why have you forsaken me?". Hisbody was then taken to a rock tomb, but when hismother and 2 other devoted female followers

came back that Sunday to anoint his body, it wasmissing. After much doubt the disciples finallybelieved it, as he appeared to them and provedhe was not a ghost. Jesuss resurrection is a vitalpart in Christian history, as it shows people can

have peace and happiness with Christ in this lifeand the next. It is written in all four Gospels.
