Message from Father Pergjini: On New Year’s Eve December 31, 2018, I went to Corpus Christi Monastery in Hunts Point, not far from our parish. For many years it has been my faithful New Year’s Eve visit to spend a few hours in that peaceful place before the Blessed Sacrament. It is a very dear place to me because often I come here to pray and pick up the hosts that we use for consecration in our parish. It is a very beautiful, peaceful and prayerful place. The contemplative Dominican nuns of perpetual adoration are well-known for their hospitality. As soon as I walk in I am welcomed by their gentle smiles. A hot tea or a hot meal often is served in a cozy guest room. It is a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere drinking the hot tea alone or sometimes one of the nuns keeps me company. I finish the tea and then quietly I go to the chapel where the Blessed Sacrament is exposed. On that cold night of New Year’s Eve, I thought of all of you dear parishioners, known and unknown to me. I always take a spiritual book in which I take refuge and spiritually rest. I read a page and after I rest looking at the majestic monstrance with the Blessed Sacrament exposed in the High ceiling of the monastery. It is a time of thanksgiving, thanking Almighty Father for the year of grace that has passed. And now we are ready to usher in 2019. It is a time in which we place ourselves with confidence into the hands of our Almighty Father. We place our unknown future, invoking the intercession of the blessed mother for all of us. This year I took an old book which I bought many years ago of Cardinal Ratzinger, Pope emeritus Benedict XVI. It is a book very dear to me because it has daily mediations from his writings during his long experience as a teacher and well-known theologian. On the last page of this book he powerfully describes the Psalm 16:5 “O Lord, my chosen portion and my cup, you hold my lot in your hands.” In that short page of his reflections I was deeply absorbed by the power of Christ and His Father who sent him to provide for us hope, trust, and salvation. We who firmly believe in the power of Eucharist are not people who are governed by one rule, the blind chance, and our good or bad luck. I read and reread that page with great hope and faith. It was a time spent before Christ in that cold night mediating and digesting the power of that Psalm wisely and spiritually explained by Ratzinger. During those moments of peace and silence I place all of us into His Hands whom we call Father. And calling him Father we are his sons and daughters who beg for his Blessings and guidance always through Christ our Lord. I thank Christ for the gift of our faith in Him and for the good faith of many of you who are part of my priestly ministry. I thank God for what you have done and continue to do for our parish. In those moments of silence I did pray for your intentions, as I always do during the Holy Mass. It is during those divine moments that I invisibly place you before the Blessed Sacrament, the real presence, body and blood, soul and divinity of our Redeemer. During those hours spent in that peaceful and prayerful chapel you were invisibly present, next to me in a very special way. Yes indeed, in my heart and mind I thanked Ratzinger for helping me to enter more prayerfully in the power of prayer and

getting closer to Christ by mediating the beautiful words of Psalm 16:5 "“O Lord, my chosen portion and my cup, you hold my lot in your hands.” "Yes I placed all of you and myself into His hands and begging His Blessing upon us. At midnight I left the monastery and I headed home. Before going into the rectory I did stop in prayer before our beautiful Grotto, and again I thought of all of you saying one Hail Mary. Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Bernadette, and Saint Lucy, beautifully illuminated, were praying for us! Amen.

The Announcement of Easter and the

Moveable Feasts

On the Epiphany of the Lord, after the singing of the Gospel, a Deacon or cantor, in keeping with an ancient practice of Holy Church, announces from the ambo the moveable feasts of the current year according to this formula:

Know, dear brethren, (brothers and sisters,) that, as we have rejoiced at the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ, so by leave of God’s mercy we announce to you also the joy of his Resurrection, who is our Savior.

On the 6th day of March will fall Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of the fast of the most sacred Lenten season.

On the 21st day of April you will celebrate with joy Easter Day, the Paschal feast of our Lord Jesus Christ.

On the 30th day of May will be the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ.

On the 9th day of June, the feast of Pentecost.

On the 23rd day of June, the feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

On the 1st day of December, the first Sunday of the Advent of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom is honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
