Church Attendance Have you checked in?
Bethany has been offering a log in system. The kiosk’s are located in the main church lobby, the south
entrance, and also inside of Westenberg Hall. This attendance is used to properly greet our new guests
and to determine Bethany’s quorum number for quarterly business meetings. This information is for
internal use only and is not shared with any outside company for any purpose.
If you have further questions or need assistance, feel free to ask one of the greeters and they will walk
you through this simple process.

Bethany Focuses on Prayer
“For where two or three gather in my name,
there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20
National Day of Prayer
Thursday, May 4 For over twenty years, Bethany has
honored the National Day of Prayer by
holding a time of prayer on the front steps
of the Township Offices.
In 1952, by a joint
resolution of Congress,
President Harry S.
Truman signed into law
the National Day of
Prayer. President
Ronald Reagan
amended the law in
1988, designating the first Thursday of May
each year as the National Day of Prayer. In
recognition of this year’s 65th Annual
National Day of Prayer, Bethany Baptist will
once again take the lead at noon on
Thursday, May 4, 2017 on the steps of the
Clinton Township Offices.
This is not a religious movement nor a
chance to merge church and state. This is
simply an opportunity for citizens of this
community to gather to pray. We will be
praying for the leaders of our community
and country, police and emergency
personnel, men and women who serve here
and abroad, area businesses and our
economy, our schools and our churches.
We would like to encourage you and the
people of our township to join us as we
observe the National Day of Prayer an
gather to pray for out nation. If you have
questions or would like more information,
you can contact the church office.
Concert of Prayer
Sunday, May 14 It is clear from both Scripture and the
history of the Church: God moves in
amazing ways when people are praying
together. The term "concert of prayer"
actually dates back to the great spiritual
awakening of the early 1700s lead by
Jonathan Edwards. For the purpose of
spiritual revival and the advancement of
God's kingdom on earth.
The title “Concert of Prayer” describes
the idea of a united gathering for
extraordinary prayer. Participants bring
their relationships with God like musicians
bring their instruments to a musical
concert. We could say that Jesus Himself is
the "concert master" who leads the
"composition" of inter-cession in His name
which the Father delights to both hear and
answer abundantly. A more specific
description of Concerts of Prayer would be:
Christians joining in unity as a larger group
for a time of prayer.
Spring Choir Concert
Sunday, May 7 11 a.m.
Join us for the Spring Concert
as Bethany’s Choir leads us in
praise and worship. Don’t miss
‘The Story’ a musical about God’s
redemptive story from creation to
eternity.

ACTIVITIES @ BETHANY
Kids Camp 2017 June 26-30, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Imagine a world where curious kids become hands-on inventors, discovering they're lovingly crafted by God and made for a purpose. Kids will get to be inventors and engage in experiments in the Imagination Station. They'll also discover other kids who are living out their faith in real ways each day. But most importantly, kids will learn how God has designed each one of them for a unique purpose. You can pre-registration online at bethanykidscamp, org
Adults, imagine being a part of that too! Parents and volunteers are needed to make Kids Camp a success. Please see Kathy Tucker or Pastor Mike Miller to volunteer for the 2017 Kids Camp.
Five Day Frenzy Five Day Frenzy is a daily, week-long event focused exclusively on 6th & 7th
grade students. The goal of FDF is to create a fun and engaging environment for
students to grow spiritually with God and relationally with each other. Cost is $10 for the week or $3 per day. Each day has a different activity along with snacks, transportation and daily supplies. Each day students receive points that could earn them a free overnight trip to Michigan’s Adventure theme park in August.
The Worship Arts Conservatory (Detroit, MI)
Sunday, May 21 at 6 p.m.
Bethany will host a concert for their instrumental ensemble and worship band. The concert will be a
combination of two different styles. One is a traditional instrumental ensemble and traditional sacred
pieces, mostly hymn arrangements. The other portion of the concert will be a contemporary worship band
with worship songs in the style we use on Sunday mornings. Our music director Erin, is also participating
with this group as a soloists for one of their instrumental pieces and also as a member of their worship
band. They are also performing on May 7, at Warren Community Church.
Luke 10:27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your
strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

YOUTH NEWS
Souled Out On Wednesday Nights Wednesdays @ 7 p.m.
There is no other place that JR HI and SR HI students should be every
Wednesday night because that’s when Souled Out is happening! JR HI meets in
the teen room while the SR HI gather in the Fireside Room. Each week is another
opportunity to build relationships with each other and with the God who not only
made us, but loves us so much! It is a place for friends to come and explore what life can be like when we
live it Jesus’ way. Each night can have some crazy fun games, perhaps some food, a time where we try to
put together real pieces of our lives (the things we wonder about, struggle with, and need to learn more
about) and bring them to the God who is writing our story each and every day. Don’t miss a single week!
NOTE: We will celebrate our graduating seniors at Souled Out on June 7, and have Graduation Sunday on
June 11 during the worship service.
SR HI Outrageous Overnighter On May 12, starting at 9pm, and ending the next morning at 11am, SR HI students can come for a time
of fun, friends and a few zzz's. The cost is just $5 and includes snacks, drinks, and breakfast. Money is
due no later than Wednesday May 10 to Robyn Miller. We're going to pack a bunch of games around a
good old fashioned sleepover. Guys will be upstairs and girls downstairs. This night was planned by
students, for students and will be run by students (with a few adults hanging around to make sure
everything goes smoothly.) Bring something to sleep in/on (sleeping bag, pillow, air mattress), clothes for
indoor games and to sleep in, toiletries, and a signed parental permission slip (available at church or
online at connect2bethany.org). If you have any questions, please call (586-872-7305) or email Pastor
Mike at [email protected].
Graduation Sunday June 11 @ 11 a.m.
We will be recognizing our graduates during the worship service and
hosting a small reception for them afterward. Parents are encouraged
to bring a small display of their child’s accomplishments for that day.
In addition Pastor Mike would like to get both a senior picture and a
younger, baby picture to use during the program. You can email a
digital or scanned photo to him at [email protected]. Please
see him if you have any questions.
Kids Camp Volunteers June 26-30, 9 a.m.-Noon
If you are currently in 8th grade or above, you are eligible to be a
volunteer for our annual Kids Camp which takes place on June 26-30. You can help out in the tech booth,
assist in one of the teaching or video rooms, be an assistant crew leader or part of the rec staff, planning
games and so much more. All you need to do is talk with any member of the Kids Camp planning team
and let them know that you are willing to help. Team Leaders are, Kathy Tucker, Kathleen Bard, Aimee
Kane, Robyn Miller & Pastor Mike.
Souled Out Online If you are looking for information about Souled Out and the events that we are doing, you’ve got two
great sources: Facebook and the church website. While there may be several down sides to Facebook,
one of the good things is that it allows us to quickly get detailed information out to everyone about
upcoming events. That same information will also always be placed on our church website. The Facebook
address is facebook.com/SouledOutBBC and the website address is connect2bethany.org/#/
connectbethany/teens. We also have an Instagram page. Just search for “souledout4.6” to find it.

SPOTLIGHT ON MISSIONS

God’s Family Serving Together The Missions team theme for 2017 is “God’s Family Serving
Together.” Here are some upcoming ways that individuals, families and the church family can share in serving the Lord by serving others...
May 28: Operation Christmas Child fundraiser after the 11 a.m. service. The Missions team will be sponsoring a picnic lunch with cash donations going towards the shipping and handling of shoeboxes.
June 17: 1:00-3:30 p.m. Gleaners Project, sign up at the Welcome Center.
June 26-30: Kids Camp “Penny March,” collections will be sent to “Kid to Kid Fresh Water for Peru.”
November: Donations accepted for Thanksgiving food baskets for needy families.
November 11: OCC shoebox packing day.
The Great Commission is Not a Suggestion Joshua Javery a message on “Sharing”
I write from beloved Poland. This is my second “career term” but my seventh year in the country. It’s hard to believe I have spent 1/5 of my life here.
About a year ago, by the prompting of the Holy Spirit, I went to Germany to see my friend Hans. We went to church where he ran into the only other “real Christian” he has ever known. A guy who was from his university (far away) that “always was talking about Jesus.” Over 12 years ago, his conversations with this friend always ended with Hans only talking about Satan. However when invited, he did attend the friend’s baptism “Not sure exactly why I did but I felt I should go.” When I asked him if he thought it was a coincidence seeing his friend on this day, he got silent and said he knew he had “some thinking to do.” This friend was the only German who had ever shared the Gospel with him directly. He had planted a seed and watered it when he invited his colleague to see him baptized.
It is surprising to many to hear that Hans never heard the Gospel until he was in college or that he attends church despite not believing and enjoys contemplating the ideas presented. I hope this imprints on you: in your own country, community or work place there are people who have not yet heard the good news. Maybe they are waiting for a single person to explain who Jesus declared himself to be. Maybe they are simply waiting for an invite. Don’t shy away from sharing. When we don’t tell people about Jesus we are in disobedience. The great commission is not a suggestion, it is a command. You don’t know who may be listening, who needs a little more explanation or who will receive the Good News. Risk a relationship-Invite them to be part of your life and your church.
Fall Conference with the Gaschos September 24-25
Dick & Vicki (gem), Rick & Christy (Pioneers) and Adam & Bethel (gem) Gaschos’ families will be visiting with us on Sunday and Monday. The families will be sharing some of their missionary experiences during Sunday School and also during the 11 a.m. service. Sunday evening, we will have a meal with them “Café” style in Westenberg Hall. Then again, on Monday evening enjoy Supper with the Gascho family and a game “Worth the Risk” presentation. This will be a eventful two days so mark you calendar and see how our Missionary Families are making an impact for Christ.
Bethany’s Mission Team Goal
… to equip and enable members and friends of Bethany to be personally involved in obeying the Great Commission
… to provide a support system for our missions families who are following the Lord in reaching out into the world.
