Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Teresa Church,
Welcome to church today for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass! It is a blessing to be alive and healthy enough to gather with other believers for the Word of God and for the Sacrament of Holy Communion. But we do miss and think of and include in our prayers our many parishioners and relatives who are too elderly or sick to come out at this time, or who are at serious risk of catching a dangerous virus. They of course should stay at home for now and make the Lord's Day holy by their personal prayers, and by watching a Mass if they can. Therefore I am happy to announce that we will soon have a way to include homebound people in our Sunday worship at our parish — a new way for parishioners at home to watch Mass as it is celebrated in our church. This has been a strong desire for us and a lengthy process, with planning, waiting for cameras and other equipment to come, bringing more WiFi service into the church and solving technical problems. But in two weeks, on Saturday September 26, we will begin livestreaming our 4pm Saturday evening Mass to phones, com-puters, tablets and televisions. Perhaps with some technical help from family or friends, people at home or away will be able to watch Mass being celebrated in our parish church, live or lateron. After our 4pm Mass on Saturday is over, Mass will be posted online for viewing that evening, or on Sunday morning, or at any time in the future. (We will also be able to livestream our 10:30 and 1:30 First Holy Communion Masses on Saturday October 3rd. This will enable the relatives and friends unable to be in church because of limitations of numbers and safe distancing to watch and pray for their young relatives receiving Jesus in Holy Communion for the first time.) Though I knew it would be a challenge to present a Sunday Mass in a professional way that was clear and easy to hear, I was surprised by the complexity of organizing the task. I was very impressed and grateful for the dedication and professional skill of our parishioner Rich Nellis. Rich is known to many of us for his years of work with our basketball and soccer programs. Professionally, he is an executive with the National Basketball Association. He knows good quality from bad. During his hours in the choirloft with the cameras and computers, I met and thanked some of his NBA friends whom he roped in to help solve technical questions for our church. Now our committee, which includes religious education coordinator Lisa Rametta and finance council mem-ber John Lauria, is looking for a few good people with computer and technical skills to operate these cameras. We will need one reliable tech-savvy person each Saturday to enable people at home to watch the Mass as it hap-pens. (If you think you could be one of these important volunteers, please let me know.) Mass can be live-streamed to computers, tablets, phones or TV. The camera operator will also save it for viewing later on. We will explain this often in more detail. Please note: you do not have to be on Facebook to watch the Mass. You can go to the link on our parish website - which is, saintteresasi.org. On another subject: today's second collection is for the benefit of preserving the churches and shrines in the Holy Land, and helping the small remaining Christian population there to be able to stay. Their numbers are small and their economic situation is bad. The Pope asks for a collection every year on Good Friday to sustain these shrines and communities to maintain a living Catholic presence in the places where Jesus himself lived and died. In fact, one of the motivations for pilgrims to make a pilgrimage to Israel—and to see for ourselves Bethlehem, Nazareth, Jerusalem, Cana, the Sea of Galilee—is to increase our awareness of these real places where great events took place, and provide our encouragement and economic support for Christian people there. I am very pleased that people of our parish have been interested in making a pilgrimage to Israel. God willing, we will be going there in November 2021. We had planned a pilgrimage for November 2020. Every seat on the bus was spoken for. But with the pandemic, we decided to postpone the trip for one year. We know that Novem-ber 2021 will not work for some of the original travelers, but others are already asking to take their places. Wishing you perseverance, new energy and confidence, good health and spiritual strength, Msgr. William Belford
