The book for September 2021 is Where the Crawdads Sing, a novel by Delia Owens, which has been a best-seller for months. For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet fishing village. Kya Clark is barefoot and wild; unfit for polite society. In late 1969 a murder occurs, and the locals im-mediately suspect her. But Kya is not who they think she is. Abandoned when she was young, with only one year of formal schooling, she has learned how to survive while living in the marsh. She is wise in the ways of the wild, but the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. Drawn to two young men from town, who are each intrigued by her wild beauty, she opens herself to a new and startling world – until the unthinkable happens.

Creation Care Corner

Christians throughout the world unite as one family in Christ, celebrating the bonds we share with each other and with “every living creature on Earth” (Genesis 9:10). The Christian family celebrates this Season spend-ing time in prayer, considering ways to inhabit our com-mon home more sustainably, and lifting our voices in the public sphere. This “time for creation” offers, in the words of Pope Francis, “individual believers and communities a fitting opportunity to reaffirm their personal vocation to be stewards of creation”. The US Conference of Catholic Bishops reminds us “we show our respect for the Creator by our stewardship of Creation”. Please join with other Christians throughout the world.

Paz, bendiciones y saludos fraternos, Rev. Joseph A. D'Amico

How to Report Abuse… The Archdiocese takes very seriously any and all allegations of sexual misconduct by members of the clergy, Religious and lay staff of the Archdiocese. We encourage anyone with knowledge of an act of sexual misconduct to inform law enforcement officials and us immediately so that we may take appropriate action to protect others and provide support to victims of sexual abuse. Individuals who wish to report an allegation of sexual misconduct may do so by calling the Bergen County Prosecutor at (201) 646-2300 and the Archdiocesan Office of Protection of the Faithful at (973) 407-3256.

Pastor’s Corner/ El Rincón del Pastor

Dear Friends, It's been so long since I have written a column on a Mon-day to be printed the next Sunday. Between staff vaca-tions and bulletin adjustments it's been difficult to com-municate with you in real time. With that being said, Thank God, for our bulk email blast! This past weekend, August 21/22 was just amazing. I'm so happy and proud to be a part of our great parish fami-ly. Despite a hurricane coming up the coast, our church was filled with so much faith, hope and love. We had three collections, two sermons, other sacramental celebra-tions, and the ever continuing I.T problems with the live stream. Sr. Mary Cecilia who was our visiting missionary spoke so beautifully of the work of the sisters in Africa. With summer unofficially ending with Labor Day, the parish will be in a "full speed ahead" mode. Our high school Youth Ministry and Faith Formation will resume as before COVID. Actually we are starting off on a very strong note. We've been receiving many applications for faith formation and youth ministry during the sum-mer. That is a very good thing! Our coordinators for the Bowery Mission and Senior Luncheon have informed me that they prefer to wait till the “delta variant” and new COVID cases decrease before resuming these beauti-ful ministries. Although I will try to plan some outdoor socials after the masses the "coffee and...." after the Sun-day masses as it was pre covid is still “on hold” for the same reason. I have suspended all private parties in the Redmond Center as well but will certainly continue and maintain all ministry events there. Please don't forget our Parish Picnic; September 26 after the last mass in Van Saun Park in Paramus. Bring two things: yourself and an appetite!!!! You have helped ex-ceed our annual appeal goal for the Archdiocese and get us into “recovery mode” from COVID. We want to say thank you. Peace, blessings and fraternal regards, Rev. Joseph A. D'Amico
