Come to our Wel-come Centre. Join us for a coffee, tea or glass of water and let us tell you a little bit about our church.

You’re invited to our Newcomers Discovery lun-cheon. Simply complete the Newcomer card and let us know you’re interested.

Go beyond the sanctuary and get involved in the life of the church. There re-ally is something for everyone at Church on the Queensway.

We are so glad that you’ve decided to spend this time with us today. All

of us were newcomers at one time and we understand how being here for the first time can be somewhat daunting. We didn’t know our way around, we weren’t familiar with the procedures, and we didn’t know all the songs either! We would like to lessen that feel-ing for you and we invite you to participate at whatever level you are comfortable with.

A comfortable Welcome Centre located just off the main lobby where you can reflect and connect. As a first time newcomer we invite you to enjoy a free beverage and snack, connect with church leader-ship, and find out more about our Church. You will also receive a free gift to celebrate your arrival at Church on the Queensway.

A Guest Services counter located in the main lobby is staffed by knowledgeable people. Please feel free to drop by with any questions you may have and pick up more information about our Church.

church/family/timeI was at my grandfather’s funeral recently. His death gathered the family and we came from all over. Some drove, some flew and we all met and hugged and laughed and cried. I looked around at the earthly family God had given me and gave thanks for each and every one of them.

“Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.” ~Ephesians 1: 4-6 MSG

Isn’t it amazing that God has brought us into His family? Through the death of His son, Jesus, He gathered us togeth-er—every tongue and tribe—into His family circle. But unlike my earthly family, who gathered to remember a great man who died, we, the church, gather to celebrate a living Saviour! Hallelujah!

We gather together to bring hope and encouragement to each other. We gather together to stand witness to the good things the Lord has done. We gather together to be uplifted and spur each other on toward love and good deeds. We each give something of ourselves and receive much in return. A healthy family sees all members contribute and all of us have a role to play. The church family is a blessing that God created. I am honoured and humbled to a part of the church family. One of my favourite times of the year is a big extended family reunion in the summer with my earthly family. The summer is

That’s plain enough, isn’t it? You’re no lon-ger wandering exiles. This kingdom of faith is now your home country. You’re no longer strangers or outsiders. You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone. God is building a home. He’s using us all—irrespective of how we got here—in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day—a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home. ~Ephesians 2:19-22 MSG

a great time to let loose and enjoy family. The kids run around and the adults gather in circles and talk, plus there’s usually a barbeque. Let’s also remember to enjoy our church family as the weather warms up. Let’s eagerly anticipate and participate in the things the Holy Spirit wants to do in our church as we seek to be together and share our lives with each other.

The family of God and Church on the Queensway is a pretty great family to be a part of.

A woman called the TV talk show, “At the Cross Live,” concerned about not being physically able to go to church. She asked if she was disobeying God, even though friends would call and pray and read the Bible with her.

Another caller said he did not go to church because of his lifestyle. He felt the sermons would be directed solely at him. These beg the question, does church count?

Church in the New Testament was a group of people in a community, commonly confessing Jesus Christ as their Saviour and meeting together regularly to en-courage one another in the faith. Each group was also part of the greater body of Christ, demonstrating Christ’s love and their willingness to submit under His authority and protection. As Jesus made clear, church is not the walls of a build-ing: “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Church fulfills the needs of a community, unlike a gospel TV program. Just as a child, a family or even a business grows, so a church flourishes when its mem-bers selflessly serve one another and help others, following Jesus’ example.

“Just as a child, a family or even a business grows, so a church flourishes when its members selflessly serve one another.”

CHURCH TIME COUNTS

10

Marianne ministers in teaching and music and has co-hosted “At the Cross Live.”

Visit her at blog.miraclepraise.com and www.miraclepraise.com

Programs like Sunday school, Bible studies, prayer meetings and small groups effectively meet specific needs. Within the developing nucleus, truth is rea-soned, sorrows shared, burdens met, joys celebrated and eternal futures forged.

Churches serve God through the ministry of believ-ers. Through visitation, believers not physically able to go to church are connected to the body of Christ. Those who are able to go to church, but don’t, miss out on the blessings of love and forgiveness, praise and worship, prayer and fellowship, teaching and reaching, giving and receiving. In cultivating unity with other like-minded believers, church becomes a haven of rest and healing for hurting humanity. Church on the Queensway welcomes you and your family to our community.

Hebrews 10:19-25“… let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but en-couraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Marianne Novoselac

5 THINGS TO MAKE IT COUNTThe sound of the sizzling BBQ is in the air and there’s no shortage of the ice-cream trucks ringing that familiar song that makes children run out of our homes to quench the heat. Welcome to spring and summer!

The season is short, so here are 5 ways to put the sizzle in your summer.

13

churchLIFE | SPRING/SUMMER

Take some time to plan activities that will make your summer memo-rable! Check your calendar and map out your events throughout the spring/summer, so that all your weekends are not only consumed by attending weddings! Be inten-tional about your weekends and to plan a couple of getaways.

Toronto is the spot to be in the sum-mer with so many activities around the habourfront. You can find an array of festivals, concerts and good food from all around world. We live in this wonderful multi-cultural city where we can taste the heritage and arts and of course cuisine from every culture.

Create traditions with family and friends that you will always remember every time summer is here. How about an annual camping trip, maybe have some friends over for a BBQ and enjoy outdoor games or plan weekend get-away to the cottage. Life is made of memories, so let’s make this summer unforgettable!

The church doesn’t shut down in the summer, so why not be a part of the many events that happen right here at Church on the Queensway. Your church is your community, so keep church thriving this summer by connecting and worshipping with your spiritual family on Sundays and at special events. Maybe God wants to do the most memorable thing in your life this spring/summer.

Get healthy from the inside out! The warm weather is a sure motivation to get outside and get active. Take a stroll, have a picnic and absorb the beautiful nature around you. The extra vitamin D will also elevate your mood leaving you refreshed and energized. A little fresh air accompa-nied by the sound of nature makes for great moments with God.

Don’t let this spring and summer sea-son just happen. Make it count! Make it memorable. Make it an opportunity for God to do something great!
