Windhoek is the legislative and administrative capital, commercial hub and driver of Namibia’s economy. Namibia is classified as an upper-middle-income economy and households in the capital have the third highest average household disposable income amongst SADC capital cities.

Of SADC’s capitals, Windhoek has the second highest number of hospital beds per 1000 people, offering world class health care services from 5 private and 2 public hospitals. The doctor-patient ratio in Namibia is one of the best in Africa. Windhoek is the seat of 3 universities, offering tertiary education, research and development opportunities.

WINDHOEK, THE STAR CAPITAL

Windhoek is consistently in the top 5 SADC capital cities in terms of cost of living, perception about crime and availability of social services. Mercer’s rates Windhoek in their 2015 Cost of Living Survey as the least expensive city in Africa. The capital is also one of a very few African cities to command its own Police force.

LOCATION

Namibia’s infrastructure is the most highly rated amongst SADC countries and the capital’s infrastructure is boasted as the best in Africa.

Windhoek’s extended boundary in the heart of Namibia makes it the 3rd largest city in the world (by area, 5,133.4 km²) after Tianjin and Istanbul. Strategically located, the capital’s road and rail network offers convenient and easy access to the SADC market totaling some 250 million people, and the transport corridors such as Trans-Kalahari, Trans-Orange and Trans-Caprivi highways, which link Windhoek with the rest of Africa and all major world markets through the deep-sea harbour of Walvis Bay.

WINDHOEK, KEY BUSINESS SECTORS

Although Windhoek has a small population, the capital’s business sector accounts for 52% of national economic output.

Well-established and resilient, the main business sectors include real estate and business services; wholesale and retail trade; manufacturing; financial services; construction; retailing; transportation and communication as well as hotels and restaurants (incl. leisure tourism).

Professional service skills of international standard are readily available in the capital supported by the Government which offers the same incentives to foreign and local investors.

The City of Windhoek promotes and encourages foreign and local investment.

WINDHOEK, BUSINESS VISITORS

Windhoek is popular with visitors and possesses a unique multicultural charm due to its harmonious blend of African and European cultures.

Politically stable with economic innovation growing, the capital is also a haven for tourism and an ideal investment destination.

For the business traveler, Windhoek offers all modern amenities such as conference facilities, corporate accommodation, commuting services as well as a diverse array of recreational activities.

Windhoek boasts cutting edge fibre optic cable technology and broadband internet access. International satellite link connects Namibia directly to seven international high traffic destinations.
