CABIN OF PETER THE GREAT The House of Peter I is the oldest building in St. Petersburg and a unique monument
of the city. It was built during the first days after the founding of St. Petersburg at a place chosen by Peter I and was named The Original Palace or The Red Mansion. The log walls have large windows with small panes and are painted in imitation brickwork to make it look like a stone dwelling. The high hipped roof is covered with wood tiles. In 1723-24, on Peter’s order, a stone roofed gallery was constructed around the house as a protection against bad weather. The present casement was built in 1844 by the architect Kuzmin. In 1929 the house was handed to the state. In 1930 a memorial museum, House of Peter I, was opened here. Since 2003 The House of Peter I has been included into the museum complex of the State Russian Museum.

The State Russian Museum is a unique complex including the Mikhailovsky, Stroganov and Marble Palaces, St. Michael’s Castle, the House of Peter I, the Summer and Mikhailovsky Gardens.
The Mikhailovsky Palace (1819-1825, designed by C.Rossi) is a masterpiece of Russian Neoclassical architecture of the early 19th century. The main museum’s exposition is located in the Mikhailovsky Palace and the Benois Wing (1914-1919). The exhibits present most of historical periods and development of Russian art, trends and genres from X till XXI.
The Marble Palace (1768-1785, created by A. Rinaldi). The usage of different kinds of marble gave the name to this Palace. The permanent exposition represents the main trends of Russian and Western art of the second half of XX century.
The Stroganov Palace (1752-1754, designed by B. Rastrelli) is the outstanding example of Baroque style. Nowadays the exposition of the palace includes paintings and sculptures of XVIII-XIX centuries.

SMOLNY CATHEDRAL BELL TOWER
The highest viewing point in the city, the bell tower offers the panoramic views of the
bend of the Neva, the Smolny Convent and Institute, an excavation site of Nienshants

The Museum is located in a reconstructed old wooden house, built in 1840s – 1850s. Mikhail Matyushin (1861–1934), the leading member of the Russian avant-garde, moved to this house in 1912 together with his wife, artist and writer Elena Guro (1877–1913). For several decades their house had been one of the major centers of St Petersburg’s cultural life. In the 1910s – 1920s Matyushin's students Kazimir Malevich and Pavel Filonov as well as poets Alexey Kruchenykh, Vladimir Mayakovsky and Velimir Khlebnikov, were frequent visitors to Mikhail Matushin's house.
