Civil Train Victoria is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO number 3704) and the training arm of Civil Contractors Federation Victoria. As a nationally accredited training organisation, we deliver first class training services, in full adherence to the governing body regulatory (ASQA) compliance guidelines.

We offer quality training that fits within the Civil Construction and allied industries’ needs. Our courses have been designed with a strong focus on the practical elements required on the job and give the participant an opportunity to get a hands-on approach to learning. CONFINED SPACE

ENTER AND WORK IN CONFINED SPACES - RIIWHS202D 1 DAY COURSE

Our nationally accreditated Confined Space Entry course is designed to teach participants how to identify confined space hazards and work safely in confined spaces. This training course is designed for people who work in or around confined spaces or supervise those who may be required to issue confined space entry permits.

Participants will learn to complete hazard identifications, risk assessments and entry permits for Confined Space Operations. They will also learn to operate various confined space safety equipment.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?This training course is designed for people who work in or around confined spaces.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?After successful completion of this 1-day course, it is intended that people working in or near a confined space such as a storage tank, silo, sewer, sullage pit or similar structure are operating within a safe environment, ensuring the person understands the safety procedures and their responsibilities when working within a confined space environment. You will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for RIIWHS202D – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces.

The Confined Space Entry Training Refresher course is designed to teach participants how to identify confined space hazards and work safely in confined spaces. This training is designed for people who have completed the 1-day Confined Space Entry course and their accreditation is due for renewal.The course also combines Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). NOTE: CPR is required to be refreshed every 12 months.

PREREQUISITESStudent must provide a copy of their previously completed Confined Space training qualifications, no more than 2 years old, in order to be eligible for this course.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?Participants will review the material previously learnt from the 1-day course, ensuring they comply with all regulations and legislative requirements in relation to Confined Space Entry. You will also receive a renewed Confined Space Entry Card.

INTERNAL AUDITOR 1 DAY COURSE

This course enables participants to gain auditing skills and strategies to verify that various organisations are complying with management system requirements. This 1-day course is particularly pertinent in gaining audit skills to ensure compliance of contractors in systems of work for Quality Assurance, Occupational Health and Safety, and Environmental areas.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?This is ideal for Consulting Engineers, Contract Managers, Office Managers and Surveillance Officers.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?After successful completion of this 1-day training and assessment, you should be able to develop the role of the Internal Auditor within an organisation, provide skills and strategies to undertake effective surveillance of an organisations’ systems of work, assist in establishing procedures for the overall surveillance of contractors working for an organisation, and conduct internal audits of a Business Management System.

MOBILE PLANT RISK ASSESSMENT 1 DAY COURSE

The objective of this course is to protect people at work against risks associated with Mobile Plant by ensuring the identification of hazards, and the assessment and control of risks arising from exposure to the hazards.

As such, this course aims to provide the participant with the knowledge and skill required to safely and efficiently conduct a Hazard Assessment and Risk Control on Mobile items of Plant, in a working environment.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?Managers or employees needing to conduct risk assessments on mobile plant within their own organisation.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?This course enables you to manage plant risk assessments for plant of your own organisation. You will receive a certificate of course attendance, however this is NOT a ‘licence to practice’ outside of your company policy. You will be able to personally conduct a hazard assessment and risk control on an item of mobile plant and correctly complete the relevant procedure.

MRWA SEWER ACCREDITATION

MRWA SEWERAGE INSTALLATION QUALITY ACCREDITATION 2 DAY COURSE

The intention of this course is to maximise the life expectancy of sewerage pipeline installations through the correct selection of materials, meeting specification requirements for installation, and ensuring quality testing on completion.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?The course would suit designers, contractors and plumbers working in the construction of sewer pipes.

PREPARE TO WORK SAFELY IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY (WHITE CARD) 1 DAY COURSE

This is a formally accredited course developed to meet the requirements of the Victoria Workcover Authority (WorkSafe) as the statutory authority for administering the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017.

A nationally recognised course, Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card) is mandatory for all personnel who access construction sites, and meets the requirement of the OH&S Regulations 2017 for workers on construction sites to be registered.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?This is mandatory course for everyone who has to have access to a construction site/work site.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?After successful completion of the 1-day training and assessment, you will receive a Statement of Attainment (valid for 60 days). This Statement can be used as evidence of training for the purpose of accessing a construction site. Civil Train Victoria will then register you with WorkSafe, who will issue a nationally recognised Construction Induction (White Card).

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT 1 DAY COURSE

This course is a comprehensive and instructive course that meets the national standards in traffic management training. It is delivered with Victorian centric content, but also includes information relevant for traffic control in other states and territories.

With specific guidance in the newly reviewed Road Safety (Traffic Management) Regulations and the Code of Practice Worksite Safety – Traffic Management, this training course meets the requirements and standards of the national units of competence.

Note: This course will require the completion of a third-party report to meet the assessment requirements as dictated by the national qualification guidelines.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?This course is appropriate for those currently working in operational roles at sites within civil construction. Front Line Managers, Work Supervisors, Road Workers or any personnel who are responsible for, and/or involved in, the implementation of any traffic management system at a worksite and may control traffic with a stop/slow bat.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?After successful completion of the training and meeting all assessment criteria, you will be able to set up signs and devices according to Traffic Management Plans and direct traffic using a Stop/Slow Bat. You will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for RIIWHS205D and RIIWHS302D meeting VIC Roads accreditation.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT REFRESHER 1 DAY COURSE

This course ensures that any person that currently holds Traffic Management or Control tickets to the level approved by Vic Roads (RIIWHS205D & RIIWHS302D), can complete this refresher with the knowledge that it will provide competency to current industry standards.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?Current holders of a traffic management ticket that is nearing the three (3) year expiration date, to ensure their knowledge and skills are current for working in the industry.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?After successful completion of this refresher and assessment all participants receive an updated Traffic Management Card with three years validity. This qualification meets the Vic Roads standards.

You will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for completion of Day 1. On completion of both days training you will receive a Statement of Attainment for RIIWHS205D and RIIWHS302D.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AWARENESS 1 DAY COURSE

If you are managing a worksite with traffic, you will need to know and understand the legal obligations and implications under the Road Management Act and Vic Roads standards of operation. You will prepare a MoA and Site Risk Assessment, and identify road types and devices relevant to the control site.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?This course is appropriate for those working in operational roles within Civil Construction, such as Front-Line Managers, Work Supervisors, OH&S Personnel and Project Managers. Those persons requiring a clear understanding of Worksite Traffic Management in the work environment, but are not required to implement and control worksite traffic.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?On completion, you will have a clear understanding of your responsibilities for the safety of persons working within the traffic control environment, and have the capability to recognise safe worksite traffic plans and put them into practice. You will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

PREPARE A WORK-ZONE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PLAN REFRESHER 1 DAY COURSE

Personnel are required to complete refresher training at three-year intervals to keep up with ongoing changes to standards and legislation. Employers are required to ensure that employees’ qualifications are sufficient and current.

The VicRoads Worksite Traffic Management training site states:All personnel responsible for preparing, approving, reviewing and/or making modifications to a Traffic Management Plan (including the worksite hazard assessment) must have:

• Taken a course in TMP preparing (e.g. RIICWD503D - “Prepare Work Zone Traffic Management Plan” or equivalent), or• Taken an appropriate refresher couse (within the last three years), from a Registered Training Organisation accredited

under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

PREPARE A WORK ZONE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PLAN 2 DAY COURSEThis is a Diploma level unit, and as such it has considerable scope, depth and complexity. This course covers a variety of topics relevant to the completion of work zone traffic management plans in Civil Construction or allied industries, including:

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?This course is appropriate for those working in a management role or as a technical specialist, preparing and documenting work zone traffic management plans.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?On completion of all assessment requirements, including a post course assignment, you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for unit RIICWD503D Prepare a Work Zone Traffic Management Plan.

• Planning and initiation• Approaches to skills and knowledge applications across a broad range of technical and/or management requirements• Evaluation and co-ordination

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?If you have completed course RIICWD503D – “Prepare Work-Zone Traffic Management Plan” and its coming up to three (3) years, you will need to undertake this refresher course to stay current.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?After successful completion of this refresher and assessment all participants receive an updated Prepare Work-Zone Traffic Management Plan card with three years validity. This qualification meets the Vic Roads standards.

TRENCHING & SHORING 2 DAY COURSE

Designed to meet the national competency standards for installing trench support, this nationally accredited course provides practical training on trench shoring and safety. It also aims to satisfy the training requirements of State Regulations.During the course, participants will be required to excavate and install primary ground support systems and physically demonstrate competency within a simulated/controlled trench environment using equipment provided.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?This course is appropriate for those working in an operational role at worksites within civil construction.NOTE: You must bring a current Photo ID for verification and validation of identity. TRENCH SAFETY AWARENESS 1 DAY COURSE

This course was developed in conjunction with WorkSafe Victoria and is used by WorkSafe Inspectors.With proper planning, and use of equipment, hazards associated with trench work and excavations are preventable. Excavation and trench work is one of the most dangerous tasks performed by Civil Contractors. If you are unfamiliar with or fail to follow policies and procedures, or lack the training and experience necessary to work safely in these areas, you place workers at risk.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?This course is appropriate for those working in operational roles within Civil Construction, such as Front-Line Managers, Work Supervisors, OH&S Personnel and Project Managers. Those persons requiring a clear understanding of TRENCH SAFETY in the work environment, but do not require to install trench safety systems themselves.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?On completion, you will have a clear understanding of your responsibilities for the safety of persons working within the trench environment and have the capability to recognise safe trenching practices and put them into practice. You will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

VEDN

VEDN UNDERGROUND ELECTRICAL INFRASTRUCTURE (MODULE 1) 1 DAY COURSE

Mandatory training for all Civil workers who are responsible for the onsite preparation of underground electrical infrastructure, including trenching and pits and the installation of cables and conduits.Upon completion of this course organisations are to be registered with VEDN.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?This affects all civil contractors engaged in tendering for underground electrical infrastructure civil work for any of the Victorian Electricity Distribution Network group (Jemena, United Energy Distribution, Powercor, Citipower, SPI Electricity/SP AusNet). Only pre-qualified and approved contractors will be permitted to work on network electricity infrastructure projects.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?This course assists contractors to qualify, within the VESI – Electrical Infrastructure (Civil Works), VEDN Civil Accreditation process – Module 1.

VEDN WORKSITE AUDITOR (MODULE 4) 1 DAY COURSE

Civil worksite auditors are authorised to inspect civil works in relation to the supply and installation of trenching, conduits, pits, substation reserves and associated excavation works for projects.Civil organisations can save time and money by having a VEDN trained Worksite Auditor on staff.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?Those who are responsible for supervising civil works and/or auditing practices in regard to installation of Underground Electrical Infrastructure civil works.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?Upon successful completion of this training, organisations are to be registered with VEDN in order to conduct VEDN Worksite Auditor – Civil activities. This course assists contractors to qualify, within the VESI – Electrical Infrastructure (Civil Works), VEDN Civil Accreditation process – Module 4.

WORKING SAFELY FROM HEIGHTS 1 DAY COURSE

The Working Safely From Heights course is designed to ensure participants can identify risks of a fall by one person from one level to another that is likely to cause injury. This course provides practical guidance to persons on how to manage health and safety risks arising from falls. It includes information on a range of control measures to eliminate or minimise the risks.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?This training course is designed for people whose work will require them to operate from heights, above or below ground.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?On successful completion of this 1-day course, it is intended that people working from heights, above or below ground will have a working knowledge of the risks associated with working from heights. You will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for RIIWHS204D – Working Safely From Heights.

WORKPLACE SPOTTERS

WORKPLACE SPOTTING FOR SERVICE ASSETS 1 DAY COURSE

To ensure the safety of personnel in the operation of mechanical plant and equipment being operated in the vicinity of overhead power lines and underground assets, a qualified Spotter must be implemented onsite to observe and ensure the safety of the works. This 1-day course covers the necessary knowledge and skills required in conjunction with required prerequisites.

This course is recognised by Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) and the Victorian WorkCover Authority as meeting the requirement under Victorian Regulations for Plant Operations near overhead powerlines and underground assets. This course complies with formal accreditation, 22325VIC Course in Worksite Spotting for Service Assets.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?Industry workers who act as a designated Spotter. You must be 18 years of age or over.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?After successful completion of this 1-day course and assessment you will be registered with Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) subject to all mandatory ESV requirements being met. ESV will issue you with a Spotters Ticket (valid for 3 years).

Note: After 3 years you must attend another Spotters Refresher course to remain current otherwise you will lose your licence to observe as a Spotter.

SPOTTERS REFRESHER 1 DAY COURSE

An Energy Safe Victoria issued Spotters Ticket is valid for 3 years. If you hold one of these tickets, make sure you are aware of its expiry date. To maintain validity of your Spotters licence you must attend a refresher course to maintain your qualification. This is a mandatory requirement set out by Energy Safe Victoria.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?Anyone whose Spotters qualification is approaching the end of the 3-year validity period.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DOES THIS OFFER?After successful completion of this 1-day course and assessment you will be registered with Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) subject to all mandatory ESV requirements being met. ESV will issue you with a Spotters Ticket (valid for 3 years).

Note: After 3 years you must attend another Spotters Refresher course to remain current otherwise you will lose your spotter registration certificate to observe as a Spotter.

SPOTTERS ALTERNATE TO PLAN OPERATOR ASSESSMENT 2-3 HOURS / CLOSED BOOK EXAM

If you do not hold any Plant Operator tickets but want to work as a Spotter, you can sit this theory-based assessment to qualify for the Plant Operator ticket prerequisite to gain a full Energy Safe Victoria Spotters qualification. This is a great way to verify your knowledge and skills.

This is an Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) approved assessment which provides an alternative to holding plant operator tickets for:

ASQA COMPLIANCE

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) is the national regulator for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector.

ASQA regulates Registered Training Organisation’s (RTO’s) to ensure quality standards are met in accordance with the AQTF guidelines for all accredited qualifications, courses and units of competency.

Civil Train Victoria as an RTO delivers accredited qualifications and units of competency in the Civil Construction arena to meet the demands of CCF members.

At all times Civil Train Victoria ensures its training is of a very high quality and is delivered by qualified experienced industry trainers and assessors by following the guidelines and requirements set out by ASQA in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015.

As an RTO, Civil Train’s training and resources are regularly audited to ensure compliance with AQTF requirements.

In lockstep with Civil Train’s commitment to skilled workforce development for the civil construction industry, we offer a range of Apprenticeship Programs, designed to;

• Assist newcomers to the industry in starting their career• Benefit employers and mentors looking to onboard apprentices for future employment• Continually induct new workers to the industry, helping to ensure a sustainable skilled workforce for the current and future

pipeline of critical infrastructure works.

Apprenticeship is on-the-job training that involves following and studying a trade on the job, instead of in school. Civil contractors, carpenters, plumbers, builders, and many other professionals often learn their trade through apprenticeship training. The apprentice is bound by indentures or by legal agreement to serve a tradesperson. They undertake a nationally accredited, portable course of training under the supervision of their employer.

The Civil Train Team are committed to delivering the very best skills development training in the industry. We offer a range of qualification accredited courses, including;Certificate II Civil ConstructionComprises foundation training, designed for newcomers to the industry. This is an excellent course for school-aged students (Yr 10/11) looking to start their career in civil construction.

Certificate III Civil Construction, GeneralComprises apprenticeship training delivered as work-based learning (also includes some off-site training). Suitable for new entrants to the industry, or existing workers looking to upskill or formalise their skills, this course offers a nationally accredited and recognised qualification. This the stream most apprentices and their employers agree to undertake.

Certificate III Civil Construction, Plant OperationsComprises a plant operations focused traineeship, delivered predominately on-site (also includes some off-site training).

Certificate IV Civil Construction, SupervisionThis apprenticeship program is for Supervisors in the industry. It is a comprehensive course of study for workers who are already Leading Hands or workers aspiring to supervisor/management level. The course units are leadership and management focused.

STATEMENT OF FEES - TOID 3704

As per the Victorian Training Guarantee program, an eligible individual can undertake a maximum of two Governmentsubsidised (funded) courses at any given time in a calendar year. Additional eligibility criteria must be met to access the funding. To check on eligibility, contact Civil Train Victoria Team.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

Learners can apply for RPL at commencement of training. RPL is the process of recognising prior learning, life skills and experience. This can include experience gained from formal learning, paid, or volunteer work or competence gained in the workplace.

RPL will be assessed and measured against course competencies. Learners must enrol first to be eligible for assessment of prior learning application.

The fee for an RPL assessment is not set by the government, it is determined by individual training providers. It may be charged on a fee-for-service basis. Fees may vary depending on the evidence produced by learners.

CREDIT TRANSFER (CT )

Credit Transfer is potentially available when the learner has completed an identical unit of competency (like for like). This could be issued from another RTO.

The unit must have the same code and title. There is no charge for Credit Transfer.*Employer Incentives may apply for eligible learners.
