• Can the end Valves in manhole 9 & 10 be moved to the tunnel for the shutdown starting May 14th or are we to install new set of valves in the tunnel tie in connections as well for each system?

• CJL Response: If there is space, install the new isolation valves in the end of MH-9 and MH-11. These can be installed in the 3 week window in May when the system is shut down.

• Manhole 9 shows branch connections that run West out of the manhole on drawing H-2 Detail 1. Are there existing 12” HPS, 6” PC, and2” HPR we are to tie into just outside of the manhole with an anchor on each as shown on the detail? Assume all pipe West of anchor will be existing and not removed? Drawing H-1 does not show branch connections from manhole 9

• CJL Response: The scale on H-1 is too small to show the existing HPS, HPR and PC branch piping. The branch piping shown on H-2 Detail 1 is correct. Tie into the existing branch line as close to vault 9 as possible. This may require removing the existing anchor and replacing it after the connection is made. The isolation valves for these branch lines will be inside the existing vault (only the lid of vault 9 is to be replaced). These valves will be installed during the 3 week shutdown in May.

• Want to confirm pipe is to be installed with reference to the B31.1 ASME code for pressure piping not B31.3

• CJL Response: B31.1 ASME Power Piping Code is the referenced code for this piping. • Will weld maps need to be constructed for the project for all weld visuals, weld ID, and

their procedures used? • CJL Response: No • Will MTRs, heat numbers, and weld visuals all need to be tracked with a matrix excel

sheet? • CJL Response: No • Will NDE (RT, UT, MT, PT) be needed on welds for this job, and at what percentages will

be specified if so? Percentages per code are determined through owner. • CJL Response: All welds are to be visual inspected, 10% welds are to be liquid penetrant

inspected. • Can non shrink grout be used in place of links seals at pipe penetrations in manholes as

described in section 232115 page 5 of 6 • CJL Response: No • Can steam traps be tied in with each other from one drip with drip leg. Is there a need

for 2 steam traps as shown in some manholes? • CJL Response: No, each trap should have a 1” dia drain pipe connect to the 2” HPR.

Some manholes may have two steam traps as shown on drawing.

• Pipe is acceptable as ERW in place of Seamless? • CJL Response: No, pipe in pre-insulated underground is seamless. Maintain seamless

piping in vaults. • Relief valves are not shown on the project document, is it to be assumed there are no

relief valves? • CJL Response: There are no relief valves. • Is there a gasket and bolt specification for what types of gaskets and bolts need to be

used for pipe flange connections • CJL Response: Bolts and Gaskets are per ASME requirements per pressure and

temperature of system. • For gate valves 2” and below there is no specification listed. Please proved specification

for systems • CJL Response: 125 PSI/8.6 Bar Saturated Steam to 353 degrees F/178 degrees C, 200

PSI/13.8 Bar Non-Shock Cold Working Pressure. NIBCO Class 125 Bronze Gate Valves T-111, T-113 and T-124 are examples.

• If no Site utility drawings are provided, can it be assumed all digging not involving pipe, will fall under unforeseen conditions?

• CJL Response: Additional excavation required to avoid existing utilities, not identified by drawings or surface indications, will fall under unforeseen conditions.

It states that we need to fence the project work area, can this be orange safety fence or does it need to be panels of chain link fence and does the entire project need fenced or just what is being worked on at that time?

Panels of chain link fencing will be needed to isolate the project area from pedestrians during work and evening hours. Once work in an area is started it will need to be fenced until returned to finished condition.

The cross walk at the access into the parking lot area near McEntire is concrete. Does it need replaced with concrete or can it be replaced with asphalt? If it is to be concrete how thick is it to be and what is required for reinforcing?

Asphalt is an acceptable finish. Painting of the crosswalk as current will be needed.

It was brought to attention there is a street light near Gemmell Hall has a crack in the base of it. This light will most likely be removed during construction. If so, do you want it replaced because it may crack upon removal.

If needed a new street light will be provided by the university.

There is an existing abandoned steam line running parallel to the (3) steam mains that will be removed and replaced. Is this to be left alone and buried as is? Not included in bid?

The old abandoned Manhole that is next to Manhole #10 will need to be removed during the project. It is not known if there old steam lines attached to this manhole. If they are encountered during planned work, then they will need to be removed.

On existing manhole number 10 there is a stone veneer currently. There is also a poured slab and railing around the top. Are we to replicate the poured top with railing as well as the stone veneer for that new manhole?

Final profile of Manhole 10 will be determined by contractor as needed. (As identified on Drawing H-3) Final elevation will dictate if railing is needed. If needed, contractor to supply. Stone veneer will not be needed.

For existing manhole number 9, there are existing branch lines that valve off the mains and run through the west wall of the manhole. Just after running through the West wall of the manhole the pipe is buried pipe with no tunnel. The branch valving that will need replaced and shut down are located in the vault currently. Drawing H-2 detail 1 shows new anchors being installed outside manhole along with connecting new pipe to existing pipe. With the shut off valves being located in the manhole, there will have to be another set of accessible valves to shut down the steam if new pipe is to be installed through the west wall of the manhole and connecting to existing buried pipe. Is it your intent to just leave existing pipe “as is” West of new branch valves west? Is there need for a new anchor to be installed? Please see Attached REFERENCE DRAWING A

CJL Response: At manhole number 9, only the lid of the vault is to be replaced. The new valves will be inside the vault and must be replaced during the May steam shut down. The contractor is to examine the existing pipe and replace as far back as is required to fine sound pipe to connect to the new installation. If the pipe is replaced past the concrete anchor outside the vault, the anchor must be replaced. All three pipes will require a new sleeve and linkseal through the existing wall.

Can there be an allowance allotted for UG utility unforeseen conditions / repairs.

Additional excavation required to avoid existing utilities, not identified by drawings or surface indications, will fall under unforeseen conditions.

Additional Responses:

Verification samples have been obtained from Manholes. If asbestos materials are known to be

present they will be removed by the University at beginning of steam shutdown. The content of any

asbestos material on underground pipe is unknown. A verification sample will need to be obtained

when piping is exposed. If piping is found to contain asbestos, a change order will be written to the

contract for the contractor to remove the asbestos containing material.
