there are only3 options to meetthe imo regulationon sulphur emissions:

Scrubber technology has proven effective and commercially viable. Clean Marine’s unique Exhaust Gas Cleaning System offers significant savings to the shipping industry and is fully compliant with global (IMO), regional and local regulations regarding emissions to both air and sea.

Switching to more expensive compliant distillate fuel (e.g. MGO)

Convert to new fuel types (e.g. LNG) at considerable risk and cost

Continue operating on cheap and readily available heavy fuel oil and install an EGCS to remove the sulphur from the exhaust gas

3SIDE

A key issue for ship owners is the return on their investment in new technology. The installation of an exhaust gas cleaning system is the most cost effective solution to meet the IMO sulphur regulations.

Most vessels trading more than 30% inside the current Emission Control Areas (ECA), where the sulphur limit is 0.1%, will see an attractive payback time if investing in a Clean Marine EGCS. The payback time naturally depends on the individual vessel’s fuel consumption and the fuel spread between ultra-low sulphur fuel (e.g. MGO) and heavy fuel oil.

Starting 1st. January 2020, the EU waters are regulated as a 0.5% sulphur limit area, and most likely this sulphur cap of 0.5% will be applied globally from 2020 (and no later than year 2025). EGCS will therefore be a cost-efficient option for all vessels from 2020.

Installing an EGCS also offers the clear operational benefit of one single fuel grade for all trade areas. There is no need for fuel switching with corresponding safety issues, route deviations, tank cleaning and other costly and time-consuming measures.

cost effective and future-proof solution

The Clean Marine EGCS is a proven Allstream solution; integrating all the exhaust producing machinery on-board (main engines, aux. engines and boilers) into one single scrubbing unit without any back-pressure to the engines. This is very cost-efficient for vessels with a variety of exhaust sources, as well as easier to install and operate.

The Clean Marine EGCS is an optimal solution for the marine environment. Our system has the ability to combine natural and added alkalinity in open loop operation, providing high cleaning efficiency in all waters while maintaining a close to neutral pH of the washwater at the outlet.

Given local regulatory variations and uncertainty, this makes the Clean Marine EGCS a future-proof solution.

Compliant with tomorrow’s regulations.

the preferredchoice forleading shipowners

Dorian LPG is proud to be the first within the gas carrier market to install the Clean Marine EGCS and we look forward to trading the LPG carrier Corvette with the considerable technological and environmental advantages over similar vessels in the market.

The hybrid EGCS delivered by Clean Marine is an advanced solution compliant with the stricter washwater regulations in US waters. We are confident that EGCS will play an important role in moving the shipping industry to comply with the new sulphur regulations in ECAs, as well as with the global cap in 2020 in a cost competitive manner.

We are pleased with the cooperation with Clean Marine during planning, delivery and commissioning of the system, and the Class and Flag State approval process has been quick and efficient.

The patented Clean Marine EGCS is specifically designed to meet the needs of the maritime industry and offers proven Allstream exhaust gas handling. All exhaust sources on board can be served by one common EGCS unit, enabling a fast return on investment.

Our EGCS is a seamless hybrid system which enables both open and closed loop modes of operation. The Clean Marine solution is proven to connect all of the ship’s exhaust streams, including the boilers, to one single EGC unit without encountering an increase in back pressure to the combustion units. This is achieved by a unique gas re-circulation mechanism as well as two powerful fans.

The system is specifically developed for seamless and easy operation in all ports and waters; sea, fresh or brackish, with an automatic alkali dosing system which is boosting cleaning efficiency and neutralizing the acid created in the sulphur trapping process.

The Clean Marine EGCS is an optimal solution for the marine environment and represents a future-proof system for the ship owner, adhering to regulatory variety in all waters. Our system has the ability to combine natural and added alkalinity in open loop operation. This means it will provide high cleaning efficiency while maintaining a pH>6 at the outlet, making the effluent compliant with all IMO and regional/local regulations.

Recognizing that the IMO sulphur requirement reflects a demand to minimize human exposure to harmful Particulate Matter (PM), a unique PM trapping feature surpassing the present sulphur requirement has been incorporated into our product.

Tamper-free gas analyzer is continuously monitoring the SO2/CO2 ratio and compliance is logged together with GPS position of the vessel.

The patented wet “Advanced Vortex Chamber” is combined with two powerful fans to achieve outstanding trapping efficiency for sulphur (SOx) as well as soot and ash particles (PM-Particulate Matter).

The system can be designed to run in zero-discharge mode (closed loop) to cater for potential restrictions in certain ports and areas. The holding tank will store the process water and is dimensioned for the ship’s required flexibility.

Main engines, aux. engines and boilers are all served by one single scrubbing unit without any back-pressure. This is achieved by two fans and a unique gas recirculation device.
