Florence Woman’s Club produces free brochure for Barn Quilt Trail

After six years of creating public art for Boone County as one of their community service projects, the Florence Woman’s Club has produced a Barn Quilt Trail brochure to share with the public.

What is the Barn Quilt Trail? It is an imaginary trail of real quilt blocks painted and hung on barns

throughout 33 states. There are now more than 4,000 boards decorating barns and buildings.

Boone County has 70 quilt boards hung on barns and sheds throughout the county. Started in 2001 by Donna Sue Groves, it has become the largest folk art project ever produced.

The Boone County Historic Preservation Review Board

presented the Florence Woman’s Club with their Preservation Award because the Board valued calling attention to two historic rural icons, barns and quilts.

To see the trail and obtain instructions on how to make your own quilt board, go to www.BooneBarnQuilts.com. To obtain the free brochure, e-mail [email protected].

Florence Woman’s Club thanks Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. for making this brochure possible.

On Monday, October 8, the Bullitt County Woman’s Club held its annual Talent Auction. The Talent Auction Committee worked hard to make it a success. This year it was held at the Jim Beam House on the grounds of the Jim Beam Distillery, in Clermont Kentucky. It is a beautiful old home and the event fits snuggly into it.

They were pleased that Fourth District Governor, Diane Willis, and her husband were able to

attend. They were bidding like theeveryone else, trying to win the beautiful donations provided by the women from the club.

Thanks to a resourceful hostess committee, they had many wonderful morsels to munch on, no one went hungry or thirsty. Jennifer Porter took over the organization of it at the last minute. The club was and is grateful.

The club’s gratitude continues to extend to John Wigginton, the

auctioneer. He has been donating his time, great sense of humor and unbelievable skill for this event for many years. The successful outcome of the auctions, owe much to John and his innate ability to make one dig a little deeper.

This year the event made $1,223. The club will share this with a charity in Bullitt County called the Shepherds Shelter. They will find many ways to use the $611.50 to help those in need.

From the Editor’s Pen ....Soon the struggles and triumphs of 2012

will be behind us, and we will begin another year with hope and anticipation — both personally and within our clubs.

Kentucky Clubwoman would like to document those highs (and lows) from your club activities. Not only will this spotlight your club, but it will also serve as one of the best possible sources for new projects for other clubs.

You may notice there is not a lot of club news in this E-version of Kentucky Clubwoman. I know you are out there making a difference in your community and doing fun things together. Please liven up our pages with those activities. Send pictures and articles. Tell us what worked and what didn’t, and tell us how you did it.

I try to use everything that I receive. The E-version allows me to run more things with less editing. The Spring issue will make its way to you via the postal service. I am looking for news articles and clear digital pictures (jpg format). Please remember to identify the people in the photo, as well as tell me what is going on in the picture.

The Clubwoman is being emailed to all club presidents. If you have received this, PLEASE forward it on to your members and make printouts for any who do not use email.

I hope you will continue to support your state magazine by placing ads and sending us your club news, projects, and pictures. Any comments and suggestions are welcome. Patti Cross, Editor [email protected]
