billiards & snooker

Last Thursday’s social handicap semi finals featured some of the stalwarts of the Burwood R.S.L snooker club & a player I have not heard of before. In the first semi Paul H beat Bob Shirvington who put up a good fight but Paul H is one of the most consistent snooker players & proved a little to good for Shirvo. In the other semi John McCarthy was beaten by Clarence who must of played well as John has been in good form lately. Clarence was able to overcome a gallant Paul H in the final. Well done Clarence. A reminder to members who wish to take part in our friendly Thursday night social handicap snooker competition all you have to do is go to the sport’s bar prior to 7.30 pm & have your name placed on the list & for only $2 you can vie for the wish cards.

Excitement is building as the start of the N.S.W R.S.L team singles handicap snooker competition will start in about 3 weeks time. This time it looks like the Burwood R.S.L snooker club will be entering 2 teams as at last count 19 members have showed interest in playing for the club. The snooker club would like more members to join them. For only $10.00 you can take part in the number of events the snooker club will hold in 2015. Just see Col Sheehan & he will only be to happy to take your cash & issue you a receipt.

Hope to see you round the tables,SNOOKERED 1

Little Arrow

Last Thursday was the Social Bowling night and was a great gathering. The winners on the night were Maria G, Nina, Luigi and Giovanna; well done team.

Last Monday 19th January the AGM was held and was a successful meeting. Several issues were disputed, all in the interest of the Club and its Members. There were three candidates nominated for the position of Indoor Bowls President. Congratulations to Tony Screnci on being elected President for 2015. Tony wishes to thank the members for voting him as honourable President and wishes all Members a wonderful year of bowls.

Following the meeting we went to the Sports Lounge Bar. On behalf of the Committee and Members we wish to express our thanks to Robert Shirvington and Colin Hodges for shouting us drinks. We also played a game and the winners were Maria G, Nina, Luigi and Giovanna. Congratulations to Giovanna and her team.

Members, get ready for the Club Championship, it will start on approximately 23rd February. Please find a partner and add your name to the list on the notice board. Our Indoor Bowls Committee wishes to invite new members to join – no experience needed to be part of the prestigious Club Championship. We are more than happy to teach you if needed so come along and have a go, it is fun and there’s cash prizes to be won.

Brutus

Mrs. Broomfield’s dishwasher quit working, so she called a repairman.

He couldn’t accommodate her with an evening appointment, and since she had to go to work the next day, she told him,

“I’ll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I’ll mail you the check. By the way, don’t worry about my Rottweiler, Brutus. He won’t bother you. But, whatever you do, do not under any circumstances talk to my parrot!”

When the repairman arrived at Mrs. Broomfield’s apartment the next day, he discovered the biggest and meanest looking Rottweiler he had ever seen. But, just like she had said, the dog just lay there on the carpet, watching the repairman go about his business.

However, the whole time he was there, the parrot drove him nuts with his incessant squawking and talking. Finally the repairman couldn’t contain himself any longer and yelled: “Shut up, you stupid bird!”

To which the parrot replied:

“Get him, Brutus!”
