    took charge of CMA President

    Dr. Anshu Kataria took the charge as President of Chandigarh Management Association (CMA) on 1st July, 2014 in

    the 49th Executive Committee Meeting of CMA which was held at DSOI, Sector-36, Chandigarh. On the occasion, the

    allocation of different departments to the members was also done.

    The Meeting was attended by Mr Jagtaran Singh Nayyar, Vice President; Er Sandeep Singh, Secretary General; Mr. T.

    S. Chhabra, Joint Secretary; Mr. Ashok Verma Treasurer, other EC Members and the Past Presidents of CMA.

    Dr Anshu Kataria who is also the Chairman of Aryans Group of Colleges, Chandigarh appointed the Chairmen of new

    Committees in the Meeting. He nominated Mr A.K.Gandhi as the Chairman (Membership Committee), Col. M.G.S

    Khurana was nominated as Hospitality Chairman and a 3 member committee comprising of Mr Ashok Verma, Er

    Sandeep Singh and Mr Deepak K Dhingra was constituted to mobilize funds for the CMA activities.

    Dr Kataria declared Mr J N Vohra, Brig Sahni, Mr M L Garg, Mr T L Kaushal and Mr Amrit Lal as Co-opted members.

    M/S Universal Group and M/S Bodh Group were announced as new Organizational Members.

    While addressing the members, Dr Anshu Kataria said that the main objective of the association is to promote the

    development of professional management practices in the industry, trade and business in private and public sectors

    by cultivating an understanding and appreciation of sound management philosophies and principles, simultaneously,

    taking part in the initiatives for the development of the city environment.

  • Talks on health issues of management professionals

    Keep Your Brain Healthy

    On 6th August CMA organized a talk on How to keep

    your brain Healthy at Fortis Hospital, Mohali. Dr Ashis

    Pathak, Principal Consultant, Neurosurgery, spoke on

    the subject. While elaborating his talk with medical

    references, he advised practicing management

    professions of CMA to exercise and mediate regularly to

    burst their day to day stress in their work. In this way, he

    said professional will keep their brains healthy and alert

    to carry on their tasks efciently. Dr Anshu Kataria,

    President, CMA and Chairman, Aryans Group of

    Colleges presided over the event.

    Dr Ashis Pathak while explaining all the aspects related

    to Human Brain said that in today's world every second

    individual experiences stress, an inability to concentrate,

    emotional instability and other issues, many of which

    ultimately lead to brain diseases. Dr Pathak advised the

    management professionals that physical exercise,

    meditation, plenty of sleep, and socialization are some

    steps to keep our brain healthy. He said that excessive

    alcohol and other drugs can kill brain cells. Lively

    questions/answers followed the lecture. Many prominent

    members of CMA were present during the lecture.

    On 29th September CMA jointly with Fortis Hospital organized a talk on How

    to manage Joint pain at Fortis Hospital, Mohali. Dr. Simon Singh, Assistant

    Consultant, Orthopedics, MBBS, MS (Ortho), Fortis Hospital, was the

    Speaker. Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, CMA and Chairman, Aryans Group of

    Colleges presided over the event. Delivering the talk, Dr. Simon Singh,

    explained in detail all the aspects related to Joint Pain. He said that, we

    assume joint pain is a normal part of aging that we just have to learn to live

    with, but not in the era of Medicines, exercise, alternative supplements and

    joint replacement surgery.

    Quoting few examples about the negligence of the people, he said that Most

    of the people take joint pain, as a casual occurrence and do not consult a

    physician, which leads to more chronic pains. Joint pain is a serious disease

    too and needs proper diagnosis and consultation.

    Dr. Simon Singh further briefed about some key symptoms, to check the

    health of joints. Further he mentioned that Osteoarthritis, Gout, Rheumatoid

    arthritis and Fibromyalgia are amongst the main causes. He concluded with

    tips like Exercise, healthy weight healthy joints, stretching and proper diet.

  • Seminar on Capital Market AwarenessImportance of regular & systematic investments in Stock Markets was emphasized

    On 24th January CMA in collaboration with Citizen

    Awareness Group and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)

    organized a seminar on Capital Market Awareness at

    PHD Chamber, sector-31, Chandigarh. Mr. Rajeev Garg,

    Deputy General Manager (DGM), BSE was the Chief

    Guest and Key note Speaker; Mr Surinder Verma,

    Chairman, Citizen Awareness Group was the Guests of

    Honor. Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, CMA and

    Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges presided over the

    event.

    Mr Rajeev Garg, DGM, BSE simplied the concept of

    nancial market to the audience. He explained the

    importance and impact of factors like Ination, Industrial

    Output and Foreign Investments on the Stock Markets.

    He further reviewed the Current Scenario in the

    aftermath of the downtrend in the nancial markets.

    Various aspects of Stock Market including investment

    strategies, market trends and the structure of the growth

    trend was shared, helping an individual take informed

    investment decision. Finally, he discussed the

    importance of regular & systematic investments in Stock

    Markets with a diverse portfolio, in order to create wealth

    & achieve long term benets.

    Mr Surinder Verma, Chairman, Citizen Awareness

    Group while throwing light on the topic said, As our

    markets evolve, a growing number of investors are

    looking at adding options to their investment portfolios.

    We believe that increasing awareness of the benets of

    investment opportunities through training and education

    is a critical responsibility in our efforts to grow our

    markets.

    Concluding the seminar President, CMA Dr. Anshu

    Kataria appreciated the initiative of Citizen Awareness

    Group to contribute towards Investor's Awareness.

  • As a theme topic for the year

    CMA organized a series of panel discussion and talks on

    Making Chandigarh a Smart City

    On 8th May, CMA organized an interactive talk on

    Integrated Development of Tricity at Phd Chamber. Mr.

    Vivek Atray, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Panchkula was

    the key speaker on the occasion. Speaking on the

    occasion, he said that Chandigarh along with its satellite

    townships Panchkula and Mohali possessed all the

    features to be a smart Tricity. However, concerted and

    combined efforts are required by all the institutions

    engaged in the governance and planning of the tricity to

    step ahead to meet today's concept of smart city as

    envisaged by the city planner.

    Sh. Atray further said that Chandigarh and its adjoining

    cities are very much interlinked for citizen's mobility,

    education, water and energy needs and health care to

    provide superior living conditions to senior citizens,

    under privileged citizens for inclusive growth and

    security to women and children. He said participation of

    citizens in the governance of cities to bring about

    necessary changes in the quality of life is essential

    ingredient.

    Mr. Charanjit Singh, past president of CMA said that as

    standalone city, Chandigarh is not a big commercial hub

    until its economic activities are integrated with satellite

    towns of Mohali and Panchkula, which is specic need

    for the region.Dr. Anshu Kataria in his presidential

    remarks said the present talk on integrated development

    of tricity is an extension of views expressed by the

    experts on making Chandigarh a smart city,. He said

    Central Government plans to establish 100 smart cities

    across the nation. The government has allocated

    Rs.1000 crore for each city, which will be selected

    according to its population.

    As a follow up on discussions on Making Chandigarh a

    Smart City, a session with Smt. Poonam Sharma,

    Mayor, Chandigarh was organized at PHD Chamber,

    Chandigarh. She said that Chandigarh has the right

    ingredients to take it to the next levels of growth trajectory

    and MC would work closely with the Government,

    industry, citizens & other stakeholders to make it a Smart

    City. She assured that she will try her best to solve the

    issues that come in the way to make Chandigarh a smart

    city such as water supply, proper sanitation, efcient

    management of solid waste, and inundation and

    decongestion of roads.

  • Panel discussion on

    Making Chandigarh a Smart City

    To initiate discussions on theme topic Making

    Chandigarh a Smart City, on 14th December CMA

    organized a series for exchange of ideas in the form of

    panel discussions and talks at PHD Chamber,

    Chandigarh. Experts who shared their views included Dr.

    Tankeshwar Kumar, UGC Professor, Panjab University;

    Mr. Pallav Mukherjee, Ex- Nominated MC Councilor; Mr.

    Atul Grover, expert, City Planning and Mr. M.L. Garg,

    Superintending Engineer (Retd), Govt. of Punjab. Dr

    Anshu Kataria, President, CMA presided over the event.

    The discussions were moderated by Mr. J.N.Vohra.

    Dr. Tankeshwar Kumar presented his views on

    Information Technology aspects to provide public

    services more efciently. Mr. Pallav Mukherjee opined

    that smart cities are based on theories of regional

    competitiveness, transport facilities, natural resources,

    energy efcient installations, health and educational

    facilities, and opportunities for the entertainment of the

    people. Mr. Atul Grover said that a smart city should

    include high quality utility services like water and power,

    robust public transport system, social infrastructure to

    provide opportunities for jobs, machinery for safety and

    security of citizens. Mr. M.L. Garg was of the view that the

    availability of water on continuous basis was an

    important issue for making Chandigarh a smart city. He

    added that water can be saved by adopting drip irrigation

    in agriculture and horticulture and through rainwater

    harvesting.

    On 16th October CMA in Collaboration with Citizen

    Awareness Group and National Stock Exchange (NSE)

    organized a seminar on Securities Market and the

    Common Man at PHD Chamber, Chandigarh. Mr Rahul

    Chadha, Manager, National Stock Exchange of India Ltd

    was the Chief Guest and Key Speaker. Dr. Anshu

    Kataria, President, CMA and Chairman, Aryans Group of

    Colleges presided over the event. Many academicians,

    industrialists and professionals were also present at the

    event.

    Mr Rahul Chadha, Manager, National Stock Exchange

    while interacting with audience said that today's seminar

    was to empower people to take good nancial decisions

    for a comfortable future. It is important that investors

    should understand the markets and take precautions

    while choosing an intermediary or in trading products,

    before investing.

    Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, CMA further said that

    objective of the program was to educate the citizens

    about the investment opportunities. They were also

    advised to ensure that their interests are protected and

    were given guidance on how to trade cautiously, so that

    they don't get misled by market rumors and invest

    according to a wise investment plan.

    Group while throwing light on the topic said that You

    would not buy a color TV before visiting a few dealers and

    taking advice from some friends. So most of the losses

    occurred in the stock market due to hasty decisions,

    greed, and fear. He also exemplied how even

    educated and high income group investors fail to follow

    the safeguards while investing in the stock market.

    Role of Educational Institutions: Skilling Youth for Employability and Entrepreneurship

    The seminar was organized jointly with Aryans Group of Colleges

    On 1st October, CMA organized Prof. S.P Singh

    Memorial seminar on Role of Educational Institutions:

    Skilling Youth for Employability and Entrepreneurship at

    PHD Chamber, Chandigarh. Sh. Rakesh Verma, IAS,

    Secretary, Technical Education and Industrial Training,

    Punjab, was the Chief Guest. Many academicians,

    industrialists and professionals attended the event. Dr.

    Anshu Kataria, president CMA presided over the

    seminar.

    Other than Sh Rakesh Verma, the speakers from

    Industry and Academia included Mr. Dalip Sharma,

    Regional Director, PHD Chamber ,Mr. Charanjit Singh,

    MD Core P.R; Dr. P.K Vasudeva Former senior Prof. ICFI;

    Mr. J.N Vohra, Mr. Gurdeep Singh Deep, Financial

    Expert, Advisor Textile Industry and Col B.M Sablok,

    Consultant & Entrepreneurship Trainer.

    Sh. Rakesh Verma said, the market today is lled with

    educated and unemployed youth, it is imperative today,

    that the students either possess skills to be employable

    or to be an entrepreneur, which is a new and major role

    for the educational institutions.

    Mr. Dalip Sharma, while speaking on the occasion said

    that in today's competitive world, every company expects

    its newly hired employees to do their job on the very rst

    day rather than spending time to provide them training.

    He added that the individuals are expected to come out

    with their own bright ideas, only then they can survive in

    the industry.

    Mr. Charanjit Singh said, Think different and don't be

    afraid to follow a path that is less travelled earlier, either

    be best in working for a rm, or be best at making others

    work at your rm. Mr. P K Vasudeva said that

    Educational institutes are the best workshops to

    inculcate the entrepreneurial skills like creativity and

    innovation. Mr. Gurdeep Singh Deep gave some tips to

    inculcate nancial skills so essential to deal with in day to

    day life of professional

    Dr. Anshu Kataria shared his thoughts as to how an

    educational institution could provide better learning and

    effective entrepreneurial or employability skills to the

    youth, through workshops and trainings.

  • Chandigarh Management Association (CMA) organized

    an Education summit on its 48th Foundation Day today at

    PHD Chamber, Sector 31, Chandigarh. The theme of the

    event was Skill Development in India-Challenges &

    Opportunities. His excellency, Sh. Kaptan Singh

    Solanki, Governor, Haryana & Punjab was the Chief

    Guest on the occasion. Mrs Kirron Kher, MP,

    Chandigarh; Sh. Rakesh Verma IAS, Secretary,

    Technical Education; Mr. K.K Kataria, Director, Technical

    Education, Haryana were the Guests of Honour on the

    occasion. Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, CMA and

    Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges presided over the

    event.

    Dr. Anshu Kataria in his inaugural speech welcomed all

    the dignitaries on the occasion. He said that since CMA is

    48 years old association but still it does not have its own

    ofce. He demanded a piece of land or space in any of

    the Government ofce in Chandigarh for its operation.

    His Excellency, Sh. Kaptan Singh Solanki in his key note

    address congratulated CMA on its 48th Foundation day.

    He congratulated Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, CMA to

    complete his tenure as one of the youngest, Dynamic

    and Enthusiastic President of the oldest association

    twice.

    Speaking on the topic he highlighted the need of Modi's

    3D formula i.e democracy, demography, demand and 3S

    i.e Skill, Scale and Speed. He added that more than 700

    million Indians are estimated to be of working age by

    2022. Out of these, more than 500 million require some

    kind of vocational or skill development training.

    Mrs. Kirron Kher while speaking on the occasion

    stressed upon developing an appropriate training

    system instead of teaching syllabus only in all academic

    institutions and universities for a better growth and

    sustainable skill development in all spheres of the nation.

    Also she accentuated that Skill India & Happy India will

    be a better way to give a pleasant smile on the face of our

    nation.

    & Industrial Training said that the Punjab state

    government has aimed to skill 300,000 youth mentioned

    2014-15 budget with over Rs. 500 crore. India is

    expected to grow at a rate of 8%, on an average, in the

    next 10 years. He strained upon the need of harness the

    human capital with the requisite set of skills in both elds

    information related to job and ethics.

    Hon'ble Prime Minister Modi had in his maiden

    Independence Day speech invited companies across the

    world to make their products in India and create jobs in

    Kataria further added that the ministry aims to open

    1,500-2,000 centres in the next two years and the entire

    cost of the programme is likely to be Rs.1,500 crore to

    Rs.2,000 crore a year, well within the budget allocation of

    the rural livelihood mission, which was Rs.4,000 crore.

    Lecture on Mind Your Mind

    Col. Gursewak Singh, a motivator, author and marital Counselor was the

    Key Note Speaker on the occasion. While delivering the talk Col. Gursewak

    Singh explained all aspects related to Human Mind. He explained how we

    can use it to enhance our personality to achieve success in life and attain

    peace of mind. Dr. Anshu Kataria presided over the event.

    Women's Day

    On March 9, DBU jointly with CMA organized INTERNATIONAL WOMEN

    DAY at Hotel Majestic, Mohali. Satinder Satti, who anchored many events of

    stature in Punjab, was the guest of honour. She said that in olden times men

    had freedom to marry many women, but in modern times women have no

    freedom even to wear dresses of her choice, without becoming target of

    some of the sick male minds. She said that women know their right to defend

    themselves and should be alert for their own safety and protection. Dr Anshu

    Kataria, president CMA presided.

    Talk on Microbes- Friends or Foes

    On 15 March CMA organized a talk on Microbes-Friends or Foes at

    Geology Deptt., Panjab University, Chandigarh. Dr. (Prof.) Rupinder Tiwari,

    Chairperson, Microbial Biotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh

    delivered the talk. Prof. Rupinder Tiwari explained that there are good

    bacteria and bad bacteria. Good bacteria help us to improve our immune

    system and bad bacteria give us many diseases. After the lecture, a
