CNM INTERNSHIP PROGRAMMES


3 Months Programme

Intake – May to Jul (Vacation)

Students apply to employers directly

Leave of Absence (LOA) not required

No assessments or MCs



3 Months Programme

No tuition fees payable

More competitive as employers offer the internship to all tertiary-level students



6 Months Programme

Intake – Jan to Jun or Jul to Dec

Offered as NM3550 or INM3550

Worth 8MCs (4MCs to Major and 4 to UE). Applicable to cohort 2015 and earlier cohorts. Internship is compulsory for cohort 2016 and onwards



6 Months Programme

Department co-ordinates placement

Supervision by worksite supervisor and guidance from academic supervisor

Assessed by work performance, journals, reports and feedback

Leave of Absence (LOA) is required

Tuition fees payable

ASSESSMENT FOR 6 MONTHS PROGRAMME


Initial report (500 words)- 10%

Monthly journals - 40%

Final report (3000 words and PowerPoint slides- 40%

Feedback from worksite supervisor - 10%

PRE-REQUISITES FOR 6 MONTHS PROGRAMME


For NM Major only

Full-time students only

Read and pass a minimum of 80 MCs (24 MCs from CNM)

Attend Career Catalyst Programme run by the Centre for Future-Ready Graduates (in place of NCC1000)

Must have read NM2220 and NM2219 (and preferably NM3219) for communications related internships.

PRE-REQUISITES FOR 6 MONTHS PROGRAMME


Must have read NM2220 and NM2216 for Games or Interactive media related internships.

Recommendation letter from CNM lecturer or tutor (to be sent to [email protected] )

Employers may have additional pre-requisites based on the type of position

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

CNM Internship Application Form Letter of Consent & Undertaking Resume List of NM modules read and grades obtained Referral letter from CNM lecturer or tutor to be sent

Department interviews – Students who meet the pre-requisites will go through a round of interviews with the department between 6th and 10 Oct 2016

Students will be matched to suitable organisations based on the interviews.

Students can also let the department know of their preferences during the interview

Employer interviews – The department will send the list of students to employers, if you are short-listed you will be invited for an interview by the employer (some employers may conduct more than 1 interview)

Employers will have to let students know of the outcome of the interviews before 18 Nov 2016

Dates Activities

30 Sep 2016 Closing date for students to submit application (including those who are

self-sourcing internships).

5 Oct 2016 Department informs the short-listed students of department interviews

6 - 10 Oct 2016 Department interviews

14 Oct 2016 Selected students will be informed of where they have been recommended

for interviews (2-3 choices)

18 Oct 2016 Department informs employers about the selected students for their

consideration. Interviews to be held before exams (19 Nov to 3 Dec)

18 Nov 2016 Last date for employers to inform students of internship outcome (CNM

must be kept in the loop too).

5 Dec 2016 Pre-departure briefing to students going on internships

examinations results after special semester)

TYPICAL INTERNSHIP PACKAGES


Allowance of SGD 800 to 1300 per month (CPF

exempted)

Working hours: Mondays to Fridays (8.30am to 6pm*)

(Or arrangements equaling 44 hours a week)

Internships are holiday jobs An opportunity to earn some extra $$$ Expect to work only from 9am to 5pm Skip work like skipping lectures & tutorials Take frequent MCs just because you don’t feel like

working Be late for work Dress sloppily Keep to yourself and not socialise in the workplace

WHAT ABOUT SELF-SOURCED INTERNSHIPS?


If you have sourced your own internship*, include the

following details in the application form:

- Name of Organization

- Name of contact person and contact details

- Job function, roles and responsibilities

- Duration of internship

- Allowance and other benefits

*The internship is subject to the approval of the department internship committee as the

position must be relevant to CNM and match the objectives of the internship programme.

Upon being successfully selected, the student will have to

apply for a Leave of Absence (LOA) on line
