MESSIN’ WITH THE BASICS I: Painting to Music It’s time to PAINT - and you needn’t have ever held a paint brush to join in. This class is all about the relaxing, therapeutic process of painting

not about the end results. Under the guidance of instructor Joyce Steel participants will start out by learning a little about color, line and shape

and how we use them to express mood, emotion and feeling. Then we’ll crank up the music and wet a brush! All you need to bring to class is an

inexpensive box of kid’s watercolors which usually come with a brush. Fee: $20, Monday, April 11, 1:00 PM—3:30 PM

MESSIN’ WITH THE BASICS II: Paper Magic What can you do with a SQUARE? More than you can imagine and

we’re not talking about origami and making little birds and flowers! This class taught by Joyce Steel is about invention - discovering your own

creative expression. We’ll begin with a short discussion about shape and form, do some simple fold & cut projects for everyone to

enjoy and then go on to develop our own free-form, amazing creations! Bring a pair of scissors (not too big & heavy) and a small bottle of white glue to class. That’s all you’ll need. Joyce will have pencils, paper and any extras needed. Fee: $20, Monday, April 18, 1:00 PM—3:30 PM

KING OF THE PERENNIAL GARDEN: Peony Garden Profusion Peonies are plants that easily create an obsession. The popular

herbaceous peony bloom tends to explode in color and then is gone in the blink of an eye - or a hard rain. But once you begin to know the genus paeonia it is possible to create a garden that blooms over 8

weeks, giving the peony enthusiast waves of flowers that will more than fulfill the original obsession. Join Jefferson residents Marie and Jim

Erskine for vibrant pictorial introduction to the different types of peonies, available colors, flower shapes, and growth habits. Marie’s workshop will

include an introduction to selecting peonies, peony garden design, planting and care. Fee: $10.Thursday, April 14, 10:00 AM.

COMPANION PLANTING: What it Is and How It Works Companion planting is a centuries-old legacy that gardeners have

relied on for controlling insect pests, attracting beneficial insects, and improving their harvests. It is also called intercropping.

When arranging the garden for companion planting, one combines plants that are able to share resources of water, light and nutrients. At

the same time, one takes advantage of the natural defenses these plants use to protect themselves. Join Master Gardener Jean Vose as she discusses the plant most commonly used in companion gardening

and why. As a follow-up to this workshop a tour of Jean’s garden will be take place in July. Fee: $10. Friday, April 22, 10:00 AM.

drivers designed to help them learn about defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws, rules of the road and much more.
