• MISE EN SCENE CREATED BY THE SMOKE: The smirk on Wiz Kalifa’s face contributes to a chilled out relaxed image. But the main factor is the fact that he is being seen as smoking weed which in turn is making him appear high and chilled out/satisfied. The smoke has been shot to appear heavy and overpowering, taking over nearly half of his face. Because of its overpowering presence, it can be taken into account by the reader that the article may have something to do with Wiz Khalifa and his weed and chilled back character.

• MAIN IMAGE: The image is of one of the most recent leading hip-hop artists in the mainstream ‘Wiz Khalifa’. A young Afro-Caribbean boy which allows many readers to relate to him as soon as they see his image to the side of his article. The article discusses his growing success in the music industry and his regular use of weed which he has been in trouble with the law around 3 times. Weed is a common practice amongst many people in hip-hop culture (Artists and readers)

• BYLINE (CREDIT FOR AUTHOR&PHOTOGRAP-HER: This is important for the persons involved to get credited for their involvement and contribution to the magazine article in particular.

• SUB HEADING: ‘HOW HIGH’ is a play on two meanings: High as in the effect of the drug. And high as in his success and achievements in the music industry. Suggesting that these two topics will be discussed in the article.

• 2 SIMPLE COLUMNS: Only a third of the page is text based therefore implying that vibe readers don’t really like to read heavy text based articles. The text is split into two separate columns

• PAGE NUMBER VIBE TITLE/WEBSITE VIBE masthead which is ALWAYS on each article- and the leading website. Page number enables easy referral for the readers.

• TITLE OF THE ARTICLE: In this case the title of the article is the initials of the artist situated on the left half of the double page spread. ‘Wiz Khalifa’ By joining the two letters artistically together, it allows it to stand out boldly and become a short and snappy title.

• ARTICLE (TEXT) BEGINS WITH A LARGE LETTER ‘B’ USING DROPS CAPS: Drawing the readers attention to the start of the article is the letter ‘B’ which is in a bolder, bigger font and in the colour orange in order for it to stand out. It is a method of being creative, by linking the colour of the ‘K’ and the colour of his orange cap together.

The artist is looking away from the source of light

The quote has some words filled in white to A fade has been used in the show which words are important. Quote marks have been used to show these words have came from fiasco. The words filled in white mostly seem to be verbs. This suggest fiasco wants his fans to act upon his words

A fade has been used in the image of fiasco performing to highlight the spotlight on the body of artist. This shows that the artist is entirely centred around fiasco

The information in the article has been put into columns to make it easier to read and understand this suggests that the purpose of this article is to inform people

This double page spread uses black and grey. The Black is used to make the words contrast and the dark grey is used to make fiasco stand out from the page. The left background has a non focused effect which increases the artists visibility

The headline of this article ‘’fiasco @9:30’’ is coloured in gold to make it contrast with the black background. It is obvious that this is a time of a performance by fiasco. The use of gold throughout this double page spread corresponds with the artists clothing and jewellery

Page number and ‘streetz’ is on the bottom left of every page

• . This double page spread is from a Q magazine. Although it is not a typical based hip hop magazine, as it includes different genres of artist on it. It still portrays the hip hop artist Jay Z. The main colour scheme on this spread is red, from this we can tell that it relates into his music as red contrast in passion. Therefore the spread could be informing readers about his passion in his music. The first thing we notice on this spread is the big ‘J’ on the article. This is one of their unique selling points as it stands out from the text on the article; it also has that contemporary feeling of the genre hip hop as the background of the image of Jay Z looks like something you would see on a hip hop music video.

• The spread doesn’t just portray hip hop artist but it also promotes the institution as on the image of Jay Z, it has the name of a hip hop blog ‘RapRadar’ this allows readers to get an insight on hip hop music. Furthermore because of the way the font is used shows that this could link in with the type of genre the artist is based in. This would appeal to the target audience as they could get the latest music on the blog being promoted about hip hop. In addition this is very effective as this is the only yellow on the page that is used therefore it would be eye catching and easy to read.

• This image of Jay Z is shown to look as if he is dominant, although you cannot see his eyes as it is covered by his shades you can tell that he is giving direct mode of address. Juxtapose to this because he is wearing shades, it could represent that he is trying to cover something up, as in other music magazine that he is featured in he isn’t wearing sunglasses to have the effect of looking dominant and powerful. Also by looking at other music magazine that he is featured I have recognised that he is dressed to show elegance and class from the way he is wearing a suit. However on this double page spread of Q magazine he is wearing a plain black top. This could portray the idea of a hip hop genre and how they are shown as being laid back. In addition it still uses the iconography of wearing chains looking ‘cool’ as he is on this image.

• The article uses a typical convention layout as it uses columns on the page. This is so that it is easy for readers to read, and because the article takes up the whole page by using columns this makes it seem that there is less to read and would appeal more to their demographics. It also uses a drop cap, but on this spread it uses two which could show that it doesn’t just talk about one specific subject. Drop caps are used to show where to start reading and as a typical convention of a magazine this is usually placed at the start of the article, however in this it is placed half way through the article showing importance and also different topics. This would appeal to the audience as it doesn’t look as if there are too many texts on the page, it also separates paragraph more neater and doesn’t make the layout all over the page.
