Reading Strategies

BEFORE READING

Focus very well on:

• What is said text to be read for, that is, to know what it is being read for in

order to establish an appropriate reading strategy.

• What is it about: by asking yourself this, you can focus on the past to

remember if you have knowledge that you have already acquired on that topic.

• The length: if the text is very long, its composition should be verified in order

to know how to approach the essential parts.

DURING READING: While you are reading you should keep in mind several topics and / or

you should practice the following with your students / children:

• Create a hypothesis and an expectation of what you think will be the

outcome of what you read.

• Ask if what was read was understood

• Answer the doubts of what was read

• Repeat the reading in cases where a sentence or paragraph is not

understood.

• In the case of not knowing a word this will be a great opportunity to

learn it using a dictionary.

• Read difficult parts out loud to activate memorization.

• Represent the situation that is being read with the imagination, an

image often serves twice as a text to remember things.

AFTER READING

Once the reading is finished, a few tasks need to be done:

• Make a summary with the most important of all the text read. There

may be different summaries according to the focus that you want to give

to the reading or according to the area of study.

• Use flow charts to keep ideas as clear as possible.

MY OPINION ABOUT READING COURSE IS . . .

My opinion of the reading and audio book course is

that it helps us with our pronunciation, listen,

analyze stories, understand and lose our way

when speaking English.
